yep currently converting Digital8s and experiencing constant horizontal lines. The Hi & Vid8 tapes are fine though

my vx1000 that was dropped in a pool records blue lines over the footage now I don't know if it can be fixed or if I should even bother.

Hello! I just cant find a solution to my mother's old tapes, so I have here a Sony Album MP120 tape and a Sony Handycam Digital 8. Theres a note on the tape that says its has 4 recordings in total. Then I tried to insert the tape to the cam and rewind it. It does work and I played it, but it only shows the last recorded video out of 4, I tried to fully rewind the tape again and ejected the tape, It wasn't rewinded fully. Im not sure of the function of the tape or the handycam and my mom forgot how to use it. Cant find a solution on the internet. Is there some kind of lock from the tape or the handycam that I need to press / hold? My moms really looking forward to it. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like there might be something impeding the transport of the tape, you’ll need to open the video tape. Be careful!

Luckily I had no issues with digital8 transfers via FireWire DV 10 years after. They were recorded on and digitally transferred from the same device via FireWire in DV AVI format full bit-rate. I know that there was a sweet spot of a few years for the tape quality on Hi8 and D8, but quality fell off a cliff in the later years.

Hey how are you doing I was wondering how I would be able to record in lp on my Hi-8 camera can’t find it in my settings in my camera

Punch the model number into Google and should come up w a pdf instruction booklet and delve into that, all the best! Although I don’t recommend it, quality goes down.

I’ve got a couple tapes that I’ve played over and over and over and it keeps clogging three different cameras. Is there ever a D8 tape that you just can’t do, or a way to clean a D8 tape??

Occasionally there are some that can’t be done. Usually from moisture on the head or defect of the camcorder in some way of the original camera and it recorded that way. Tell tail sign is plays fine say for 5 mins, then pixelates….put another tape in the same player, if it plays fine, take original problem tape into another player, rewind and if it mirrors the same good picture for 5 mins and then boom pixelates at the exact same spot, it’s recorded that way. No dice.
