Hi, I have just paired up some of my gouldians. There's one pair where the hen wont allow the cock bird anywhere near her and chases him away aggressively...what should I do, do I give them time, and what are the reasons for this behaviour..

It could be that the hen is not in breeding condition. If she starts to injure the cock bird then remove him and try again in 2 or 3 weeks. I have however know aggressive hens to breed successfully (even raise the chicks by themselves as the cock has had to be removed when the eggs hatched due to the aggression from the hen). The problem is if she won't let him mate with her. He also still needs to build the nest although once again I have seen a hen add to a nest. Each are individuals so you will have to monitor them and make a call. Sometimes it is purely an incompatibility issue and she will be fine with a different cock bird. (They like people just because they opposite genders does not mean they like each other). Good luck and keep.me updated. (Would you to see some photo's or even a short video clip.

If they have The Box, take that away fore a week and put it in again after 7-10 Days and it should be good 👍
