I own three Sailor KoPs and three Visconti pens, including the HS Bronze Age. I love both the KoP and the HS mightily. Some of of my runaway, forever favorites. Forced to choose, I’d go for the Sailor KoP, for that large, unique, sublime 21k nib alone that writes like no other nib in the world. Specially the KoP broad that is truly one of a kind writing experience.

@sajjadhusain4146 3 ай бұрын
@@eleanor.shadow To me, both pens are quite great in the hand, in terms of length, weight and all round comfort. Again, if forced to choose just one, I’d say the Visconti feels just a little better overall because it feels slightly heavier.
@eleanor.shadow

@@sajjadhusain4146 thanks for replying. I'm quite a petite person and one of the reasons I've yet to order a Homo Sapiens is the fear that it might feel too heavy in my small hand (I use most compact pens unposted!) I have the feeling I'll really need to hold a Visconti to find out if my Grail pen is a good idea for me 😅
@sajjadhusain4146
@sajjadhusain4146 3 ай бұрын
@@eleanor.shadow I get it. It’s always a very good idea and ideal to be able to actually try out an expensive pen in hand before deciding to buy or not. Especially with very expensive pens like the Visconti HS. Another important reason to first try the Visconti is the notoriety of their nibs i.e. many disappointed buyers over the years reporting issues with the nibs. Also, with the Sailor KoP, it’s important to note that while it’s a large pen, it is relatively light in weight - but it has a pretty wide, girth-y grip section. For smallish hands and user preferences, keep that in mind. I think you prefer the Visconti HS…If possible, try one out before buying and then get one. I’ve had not the slightest regret buying mine. It will forever remain in my collection.

Nothing writes like that King of Pens broad nib. It is MAGICAL. For me, the writing experience is the most important aspect. I've got one in the urushi finish and it is a delight to hold, and the lightness in hand makes for really enjoyable long writing sessions.

I have both pens in many varieties; including the London Fog HS and the csi ground Goulet excl HS. I still reach for my KOP pens way more; I have almost always one inked up. I hate the cartridge (way worse than the con70! And that's saying a lot), but that writing experience is just on another level.. and it is consistently amazing in all of my KOP pens that I had the pleasure to collect over many years now. The smaller versions of the PG and the 1911 are very good writers; especially the standart size ones, as they too have the 21k nib. But they don't even come close to the KOP nib experience. So eventhough I agree with the HS lava feeling great in the hand and all the features it has are very appealing and much more of a package for the cost; I'll still choose the KOP over the HS any day. It's just that good of a writer

Hello my fav pen duo! This was a great video showcasing two legends! And this pen newbie has both on my wishlist. I have a problem sometimes where my pen drops out of my scrub pocket at work so I thought the Homo Sapiens would be more durable but then you have the King of Pens with that 21kt monster nib I want…but now I have to rethink because Brian mentioned the ink capacity is not larger on KOP. So now I am leaning towards the Visconti. This pen newbie is very finicky on pen choices now. Lol! This would be a great segment if we had more comparisons of pens in the future. I just got a demonstrator Pro Gear King of Pen with a broad nib last week. It's incredible, definitely the winner for me! The higher price is justified by how well made their pens are. Visconti's quality control is the only reason I'd never consider buying a Homo Sapiens. I have a Visconti Rembrandt which I only like after sending it to a nibmeister fix the nib. Before that it was borderline unusable, sadly. I think they are stunning pens but I can't imagine spending that much on a Homo Sapiens and being worried about whether it will write properly or not.

Still worth the $ for that nib. I have 2 homo sapiens, one is the midi with palladium nib, a jinhao writes better and it has a screw type filling system that is super difficult to clean, never use this pen, but it looks beautiful in my pen case. The 2nd HS is the ocean breeze resin with a gold nib & vacuum filling system....this pen is not only stunning, very unique and a great size but the nib is like butta. Super smooth, probably the the most satisfying writing experience I’ve gotten from a fountain pen. My one complaint is that I got it before they dropped the Crystal Dream version and the “power fill” has been hit and miss and no real way of knowing except for that wave of wishful thinking that washes over me every time I refill it and feel certain that it’s noticeably heavier than when I started.

Hi Brian & Drew : great video. I don’t have a King of Pen but am eying up the clear demonstrator pro-gear version in for later in the year which looks cool. The only Sailor I have is a Realo piston fill with nib which is great. I have a Visconti HS Bronze Age which I don’t find to much hassle to clean but normally have Akkerman SBRE Brown in. You guys may be interested to know that I’ve just ordered from Japan a Pilot 823 clear demonstrator version with a signature nib which is a nib I’ve never tried. Lastly thanks for all your videos - I live in the UK but when I was re-starting my fountain pen collection a couple of years it was videos like yours , and Stephen Browns, which gave me the confidence to try new brand , nibs and inks on a reasonably well informed basis.

I focus on the writing experience. That said, I am fascinated by the Homo Sapiens, though not enough to make the investment. And my Sailor PGS already fulfills me, smaller nib notwithstanding. But it would be one heckuva temptation if BK can marry a KOP nib to the HS. :-) How about a midrange pocket pen battle, e.g., E95s vs Pocket Six? I have and love both, for different reasons.

I don't own either.. 21K nib, large body, but uses a converter. "Suit and tie" and cargo shorts? I probably will swing towards a Visconti HS.

why? writing experience trumps filling experience all day everyday. frame it this way: you'll spend 99% of the pen time writing versus 1% of the time filling the pen up. pens are made to write not fill.

@@bobford7366 that's a very good point. I am coming from having used a Mag 600. I enjoy how it writes but I end up having to fill it up more often than I'd prefer. A good nib in a large capacity pen.. that would be my winner.

Sailor all the way, given Visconti's QC (or rather, the lack thereof)...

How does Homo Sapiens seal? The hook safe lock seems not good for sealing?
@MarkBacas
@MarkBacas 3 ай бұрын
Both of these pens have an inner cap that seals the nib from the end of the section grip. The Homo Sapiens has a very firm spring loaded inner cap and I believe the KOP has something similar.

Good video guys, nice to see you dodged talked about the Visconti build quality and how often they have to be returned for warranty service 😉

Japanese "Big Pen" with a basic cartridge/converter fill system vs. an Italian flagship with a unique dual-chamber vacuum fill system? Oookaaaaay...
