Government should be by the people we need to get involved to bring about the change we are all asking for.

The Swiss had a referendum to stop immigration. Despite voting against immigration, the EU informed Switzerland that under the EU agreement Switzerland had signed, they had to keep taking in immigrants from the EU.

My girlfriend and I recently visited a friend who lives in Geneva. We stayed with her for 4 days and got a great sense of the place. I can safely say that we were blown away. It's clean, efficient and beautiful. Public transport actually functions efficiently and is affordable. All the people that we saw seemed healthy and took pride in themselves - we didn't see a single obese person. The cost of living is high, but so are the wages. Our friend trained as a midwife in England but simply couldn't afford to live here after she qualified and she said that the working environment in the NHS was extremely toxic. She was also being exploited by an unscrupulous landlord. She had no choice but to move back to Switzerland, where she's paid much more, can afford a comfortable home and has a higher quality of life. When we returned back to England after our visit, we were utterly depressed. When people asked me what I thought of Switzerland, my answer was always the same: 'it feels like that's what life should be like, while England feels like a slow twist of the knife'.

Now it makes sense why he has "no opinion" and why "he must remain silent" and "only promote the idea". I feel that what Trump is doing in the US is the right way; he is devolving discussion into regional communities to decide for themselves in a local way as a community is closest to how people feel and think. It should be for the local to hold that power and not a central control.

Referendums are a way forward, however the biggest issue I see is the influence of the people that own the media and how they weaponize it. Add that to the indoctrination process used in education and Hollywood, how will people be able to make informed judgments when they are force fed only one view.

The key to People Government by Referendum is to ask the right questions in the referendum. What good is that if the people are incorrectly or only partially informed about the topics to be voted on? Last WE, for example, we were able to vote on physical integrity and against compulsory vaccination. 72% of the Swiss voted AGAINST it! 😳🤷‍♀️

I think it is a pity that this man keeps siting Wales as the example when there has been so much controversy over the 20mph speed limits and how that was brought in regardless of what the people there think. It is incredible the amount of laws that go through parliament without the people being aware of (OK hidden in plain sight), a lot of which most people, in my opinion would not want. the Swiss system of referendums sounds more like democracy to me.

Nigel Farage has stated that he is in favour of referendums for important issues, he also supports a fairer election system. First past the post does not give a true reflection of the mood of the country, many people are voiceless in our current system, it needs to go.
