Im glad to hear that it was relevant for South Africa too! I always try to acknowledge my advice/experience might not be relevant for every country because I've only worked in a few countries but I think there's a lot of the same themes across the world in general!

this is such an amazing and useful video. i’m in my enviro sci undergrad and i’m very open minded when it comes to what path i want to go on (which is honestly stressful to explain to people) so i’m glad to know i have this video to look back on!

It is so stressful to tell someone you’re open to whatever! I experience that everyday lol. I’m also in undergrad for envi studies and people will ask “Well what do you want to do with that when you graduate” i’m like “UUUUUUHMMMM PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING I JUST WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE I DONT KNOW AAAAHHHHH”

@@kristina_lynn I would love to know what you think about getting an internship in government vs private sector! I am a junior studying environmental science and am beginning to look to apply for science internships. I would also love to know if you think the kind of science internship matters for the future. I am having a hard time finding environmental science internships specifically but have been able to find a few at a zoo and aquarium
@kristina_lynn
@kristina_lynn 3 жыл бұрын
@@tbrad My advice is to pick what is more interesting for you. At the beginning internships will help you decide what you're interested in pursuing in the future, so you can "try out" working for a company/govt agency and see if you like it. Its best to pick an internship that's most similar to what you want to do later down the line. but that's not to say you can't pick a fun one and enjoy it too, it will still be applicable - just maybe a bit less so

There is something fascinating about doing data analyses on H2o and if it's ok to build near rivers, streams, and lakes. We have seen the downfall in what certain businesses have done to water sources.

@kristina_lynn
@kristina_lynn 3 жыл бұрын
If you can do an internship that would be awesome. I feel like public sector hiring often heavily favours people who have had some sort of experience in government, even an internship. if not then you can start looking at job postings (like if you're American, usajobs.gov) and learning what they're asking for on the requirements

You will most likely run into precal and statistics. Statistics for sure. Speaking of math, there is a good chunk of chemistry (which also uses math) in that major so organic chemistry too. Definitely look at the degree requirements
