An Eagle Scout is the highest rank a boy scout can go. It requires a lot of work to obtain, and often includes a large community service project, as well as meeting all of the other requirements. It's seen as a great achievement and will help on any resume or college application. However, it's only available to boy scouts, and girl scouts don't really have an equivalent.

The whole purpose of a donation is so that you don't expect anything in return, it's literally in the name. If you gave a school money purely to increase your chances of getting accepted, that is called bribery and it's a felony. While money doesn't grow on trees, the Federal Government is taking large part of people's salaries. If they can give money to unemployed people, healthcare benefits, food stamps, then they can give scholarship money to students who deserve it.

Here’s how you should think about it, if someone donates millions to a school, they expect to get something out of it, especially when that money is going towards a building at the school that will bring in more students. The children of the people that made their school possible are going to have dibs. Which may suck,BUT, look on the bright side; that is a very small group of people. If they are so undeserving of attending that college, it will show on class scores. While the school may help out a student for their name, I’m very confident that a professor will not.

Make sure to take part of a summer program. Instead of volunteering, create a community outreach project. Admissions counselors are looking for leadership potential and passion. If you are in the top 1% for reading skills and science, what are you doing to help your community? Are you developing programs that may help underrepresented students? Are you seeking an internship around that field for the summer? Are you pursuing a research opportunity at a university? For your GPA, are you taking the most rigorous course work like honors and AP classes? These are questions you should ask yourself as admissions counselors may be asking themselves the same thing when they are coming across your application.

I mean i understand that you have to keep the school running and that you have to admit her if you want more donors, but don't include it in a video trying to prove how extracurriculars and effort is more important than a gpa. If i remeber correctly she didn't even submit the optional essay, so effort has nothing to do with her being at the front of the line (which defeats the whole purpose of the game).

You know I have to say I appreciate what this video is going for. I would really be satisfied if more transparency were available to high school students. I live in California so I personally don't know what all high schools provide in regards to ideal admissions, but what this video is informing me makes me personally think that possibly 44% of students truly don't know what colleges are looking for (excluding those not attending higher education). Good video overall, real pleased, and I wish for more videos like this pertaining to specific demographics, communities, cities, backgrounds, etc....I really enjoyed this. : )

not true. It turns out that students who recover from what they did wrong in high school tend to do better than the soon-to-be lazy 4.0 students who jack off in college. GPA is just one out of the 5 things that colleges receive.

It's worth noting, In Mississippi, when you are able to earn a GPA higher than you had in high school (3.0+), you qualify for a transfer scholarship from our four-year universities. In some instances, you can get a full-tuition scholarship to a four-year school that wouldn't accept you straight from high school because your high school grades were too low.

A lot of schools like to recruit for athletics. If you are good at a particular sport, I would suggest joining your high school team for potential recruitment opportunities. Other than that, make sure you put a lot of thought into your essay/interview for the college. Also, keep in mind that where you go for grad/med school doesn’t have to match for undergrad. People I know went from a small private college in undergrad to MIT for grad school, so your med school doesn’t have to determine undergrad

Um. What school do you go to...? 'Cause at my school, it's impossible to get over a 4.0 as a freshman, and you can't take AP until junior year. Is it because I'm at a public school with not so much funding?
@sindhu4836
@sindhu4836 6 жыл бұрын
it's possible they go to public as well! At my school, which is public, we have the option of taking G/T classes, mostly directed towards 9th and 10th graders, which you may know- it's a level above honors basically. Even though it's only one level above honors, it's weighted the same as an AP course, so if you take those instead of honors, it's a great GPA booster. it could be because of funding but you may want to ask your student services about accelerated programs offered in your county if you're looking for a higher GPA.

I've seen something similar with the last statement. A kid in high school had a grandpa or uncle (can't remember which) that worked at UCLA and ended up having a hall named after him. So just because of that relative, the kid at my high school got accepted to UCLA. I'm certain he didn't have the qualifications for the school. Funny, he ended up deciding going to a community college

For future seniors: A GPA will get you admitted. A high GPA and a 26+ ACT score will get you scholarships(If you're low income & first gen, you will get a full ride; If you're 2nd gen you will get some change to help you out). Class rank don't pay for nothing without a super high ACT score. National honor society is important. Working a job, community service or playing sports will give you some credit towards admission..NOT a scholarship!(Unless you're a star athlete) If you're NOT a first gen, with a low family income, say goodbye to the full ride scholarship BS. It's not happening, unless you're a robotics innovator genius.

Knew a kid who plagiarized at his private schools with the threat of getting kicked out (high school). Large donation, stayed. Had horrible grades when applying to a great college. Large donation, got in. Barely showed up to classes, never bought books, and never did homework. Large donation, passed all classes. Got threatened to be kicked out after getting caught numerous times getting shit faced on campus while underage. Large donation, asked to just house off campus but still allowed to attend. Probably about 1 million dollar donated to the school on top of tuition and he earned his Bachelors in Business.

GPA isn't a big deal WITHIN CERTAIN LIMITS. Having a 4.0 is really nice, but the difference between a 3.94 and a 3.5 are pretty minuscule. Lower than a 3.5 and you are probably in trouble. The most important thing is good test scores on the ACT or SAT. A student with a 3.5 GPA that scored a 32 on their ACT will receive a full ride to any college in the nation except a select few, but a student with a 4.0 GPA and with a 22 on the ACT will have to compete for any scholarships and will get very few full ride scholarships, if any. (All this is without any other factors ie, athletic ability, standout achievements in programs like FFA and BETA, ect, ect)

This is literally a community college though. Not to mean any disrespect, their admission system is most likely to be waaaaaay more lenient and less selective than private even state colleges. Its frankly a bit deceiving. And they are in Mississippi so not a lot of people are applying except for locals.

I got a 2.0 and have had to go to court due to not attending school enough (didn't get kicked out everything was fine) and I play no sports nor do I do any school related activities. I clearly don't care about school and am doing the bare minium to pass, but since I am a lower class citizen with a sick mother and biracial with minority races, I still have a fairly good chance at getting into a college. Clearly not a good one but I know people who have had worse school history than me and got into great colleges. And it's really sad because since I know I can get in I don't try because I don't care
