The scary discovery that was made a few days ago that the new regulations will make the car much slower than expected sent shockwaves across the F1 world, but the legendary aerodynamicist and Red Bull CTO Adrian Newey opened up in a recent interview saying that there is nothing to worry about. However, will this do anything to change the public's opinion on an already controversial regulations that will change the sport from its core?

@moi3531
@moi3531 Ай бұрын
I have a really funny suggestion instead of using ethanol which has already been tested and used they should try to implement hydrogen fuel. It falls in line with F1's "purpose" of improving, finding feasibility and implementing to the public as well as allowing for a good power source for making power, one more thing the only product that gets expelled when used is water making it very environmentally friendly. It is a wild idea that I would like to see being considered.
@cusz87
@cusz87 Ай бұрын
Unfortunately that is more costly. Ethanol is cheaper and they're trying to lower cost. They energy used to convert Hydrogen to a liquid also outweighs the benefit of it. That's why car companies never pursued it.

Considering automakers are already pivoting from electric vehicles to hydrogen. I have a feeling these set of rules aren't going to last very long. Society is going to look at EV viability like 3D TVs and curved displays. A gimmick this whole time.
@dscottstoness2436
@dscottstoness2436 Ай бұрын
The pivot to hydrogen is not going to happen easily because hydrogen requires about 10 times the space as petroleum. The next generation is turning hydrogen into ammonia (solid and compact) but plane old hydrogen is not practical unless we get rid of storage space in cars.

It would be cool if someone could provide the statistics for how much fuel all F1 teams use vs. the combined jet fuel of all the teams use including drivers private jets in a season. It would be very interesting and hopefully wake people up to the non sense of mandatory V6 clean fuel initiatives. F1 car’s basically suck now from what the MOTOR sport was. These guys are criss crossing the globe with no bio fuel jets are they ? I really hope someone on the KZfaq channels points this out. The drivers, teams and especially the fans suffer. It’s ridiculous that this has even happened in the name of a cleaner environment.

2026 is not that far away. The fact that F1 never built a real-life prototype to see if it all works is quite telling. They are so desperate to push battery power and the green agenda down the throats of consumers, that they never stopped to see if it would actually work in a Formula 1 car. I won't be surprised if it's still an impossible mess a year from now (when the teams will actually be attempting to manufacture these things).

This is probably the reason why Adrian Newey decided to drop any more involvement in F1 design work and just focus on his RB17 hyper car road car project instead. He didn't want to go past mid season of 2025, because mid season is when the work begins for the 2026 car. A completely new way the ICE does its work in the F1 car plus more weight and complex active aero? If you guys remember Gran Turismo and his Red Bull X car. Kazunori Yamauchi, asked Adrian Newey what a race car will be like WITHOUT ANY rules, what would it be like? It turned into a modernized F1 car with the front wheels fully covered and fan suction aerodynamics. He did NOT OPT to have active aero im his design. He probably knows active aero adds more burden than reaping benefits from it.

If they are going to finally allow ""ACTIVE-AREO"" then why not make the GROUND EFFECTS work so good that while the cars are on a high speed section that there are ""RELIEF POP-OFFS"" plumbed up from the undercar suction area to the top of the car in a place that said air wouldn't be a bother & set it up so that when the cars bottom is nearing the GROUND SMASHING STALL HEIGHT that the on-board sensors read the negative pressure & VENT THE EXTRA to keep the car at the desired ride height & stop that bounce/slam/repeat syndrome that we have been dealing with thus far with the ground effect formula. If the suction would be controllable then it could be designed to be way stronger than it is now so that it ""MIGHT/COULD"" work better in the slower corners ""HOPEFULLY MAYBE"" ?!?! I don't know if that type of a system could be fast enough to work properly & hold the car at one height with XLNT hold down and less dirty air behind?? P.S. Impossible to satisfy all the stakeholders. E fuels are extremely energy intensive to produce and unlikely to play a major role in road transport (why waste all that electric energy for much less efficiency than in a BEV?). Two choices for F1 then... Go e-fueled ICE and we have the noise and drama whist being able to claim being 'green' or go fully electric (as will the vehicle market, inevitably) and hope fans can live without the noise. Or maybe Hyundai could suggest a compromise (i.e. see/hear Ioniq 5 N)...

I disagree with your comments about fuels being basically methanol (100% would destroy current ICE Platforms globally), there is a tremendous effort underway to create an entire new category of E-Fuels to replace the current carbon based dino fuels we burn today. They are 90-95% cleaner than what we use to power our vehicles today, and actually produce 5-10% more power (depending on the study you read). The top 5 Petrochemical Companies (including Aramco who heavily sponsor f1) on the planet are steaming toward development, so they don't get left behind. The production of synthetic fuels from biomass via Fischer-Tropsch (FT), otherwise known as biomass-to-liquids (BTL) process, constitutes one of the most promising routes for tomorrow’s fuels. It's probably going to be algae, seaweed or something similar that can be grown in HUGE quantities quickly, then gassified to produce these synfuels for global distribution. Remember, what wins on Sunday, sells on Monday....

More F1 insists on revamping the past, redoing the same concept uncountable times, appealing to older techs used in the same fashion 50y ago: worst it will get. Sorry to be the one to say it, again. Motorsport and carmakers should admit that we need a new mindset to develop more sustainable and efficient racecars that will be the seeds of better urban transportation. Movable flaps and 'DRS' will not fix a broken packaging philosophy. F1 and all global carmakers can through billions in the money pit of the baggage of obsolete techs that they are still selling us as the pinnacle of the motorsport, but the reality will impose itself soon or later. They have a choice to make: reinvent themselves or succumb to the abysm of greed, pride and arrogance. I'm hoping for the better and you? Tip 1: what changed in the UI of an F1 in the last two decades? This is only one example of many. Tip 2: how does F1 contribute to making urban and sports cars less power-demanding and more efficient?

The hybrid part running out of power and constantly needing to be recharged is the main problem but will probably only cost a few tenths-a second a lap depending on circuit. Iirc they aren’t increasing the size of the battery. For aero they are shrinking the car by 10-20cm I can’t remember, which will produce quite a bit less downforce but active aero should help bring some back. Once they iron out the problems with the Regs they will probably only be a little bit slower

F-1 has been diminishing for awhile. The stewards can't keep their hands off the races. Then there is the soap operas going on with the teams. I was a big fan, now I rarely watch the races anymore. After2026 There will be no reason for F-1 to exist. No one will watch or care. It seems a very good thing has been ruined.

F1 cannot go zero fossil fuels its a joke..how does all that crap get transported round the world ,by donkey??..the cars are a tiny, tiny amount of the fuel used by the whole F1 show. I'll be watching Moto GP instead. The whole Net zero thing is bollox anyway.

Stop with this non sense!!!! There is formula E for electric. If they want to go electric then go race there. F1 is for fast fossil fuel cars! Create a new category if you want this hybrid nonsense
