A description of a new GPS G530 Kit to make an authentic looking, full scale GNS530 to use with X-Plane and other sims.

NOTE: X-Plane G1000 came with beta versions of 11,10 not 11.20 as I say in the video.

I’m sold, Russ! I need three, one for me, one for Dick and one for the library! I can put it through a durability test on the library simulator!!! Going to try to get some of our Tech/Robotic Team teens to work on this as a project. We are unveiling a 3D printer for public use tomorrow. I’ve been playing with that and designing in TinkerCad. Not shabby. But this is exactly what we needed!!!

is there an updated video showing opening up the newer gns530 sim? I'm trying to find a way to mount it and I'm thinking about drilling holes. the stand wasn't doing the trick.

May I ask how you got the display screen to fill up the entire 5 inch monitor you have? When I pop-out my GPS screen I get all the knobs and buttons along with it and can't increase the window size to stretch it beyond the screen size I am moving it to. I have a little 7 inch screen that I plan to have external buttons and knobs for so I would like to get rid of the rendered ones. Thanks!

Looking good ... from my understanding we can order the components & put it together, if it is so where can we get prices for the components. I wonder if we can connect another board as well. I have a desktopAviator which is P&P & a 5" Monitor which is currently connected directly to the GPU, so ,theoretically, I should be able to use those in conjunction with you Hardware, did I get it right ???
@rbarlow
@rbarlow 6 жыл бұрын
Chuck looked at that and of course you could modify it to work with that DA board. The volumes and on/off are potentiometers so you might have to assign a joystick axis to those. I am really not sure. The PCB rack and wiring would have to be modified but it probably could be done. The arduino wasn't included in the kit since 1) some people already have them, 2) they are cheap and 3) he anticipated people may want to try their own designs using Desktop Aviator or Leo Bodnar boards. I suggest you contact Chuck on the website and ask him directly. www.simwarekits.com

Got one up and running today, Russ. It’s a great kit. Just follow rtfm and follow the directions. Just viewed your “No Bezel” video. Will work on that next Flew KSTS TO KRDD without a mouse today using this and Air Manager plus a GoFlyte panel. Much better sans rodent!

It is great! And looks awesome too ;) But there is one think I don't really get ... I watched your vid about hardware communication by using air manager - that made sense to me. In this case my brain seems to be to dumb. If your active window is the flight sim, how is the input from lets say the cdi knob then directed to the outpopped garmin window on the unit? Would be glad if you may could explain that :)
@rbarlow
@rbarlow 3 жыл бұрын
Hardware dials and buttons connected to Arduino mega send inputs to Air Manager. AirManager sends commands/events to the sim. The popped out windows respond to the commands ( for example direct to button pushed) and you see it on the display.
@martinm55
@martinm55 3 жыл бұрын
@@rbarlow Thanks for answering that quickly 👍😅 I think I got it - basically the input air manager is injecting into the sim is changing something on the gauge (or panel) inside the vcockpit and the outpopped gauge is just (like screen mirroring) mirroring the gauge or panel from the cockpit. Life can be easy 😂 Stay healthy, cheers 👍

@@rbarlow Sorry for going off-topic right here but I tried to find another way to contact you on KZfaq (funny, I use it since years and don't actually know all of yt's functions ^^) ... So, after searching the web and were not able to find some useful information on this topic - is AirManager capable of "mirroring" gauges by their corresponding ident? For example I have a PFD gauge written in XML and in the panel.cfg I then create a [windowXX] with the PFD gauge and an ident. Is AirManager then able to mirror this window by it's ident? Or is there another way to simply have the gauge as an AirManager gauge without the need to re-create it inside AirManager? Again, thank you for trying to answer all of your requests I guess we are all happy you do so ;)

Hey, great video. I'm having troubles config my 2nd monitor. Its plug into my graphics card via HDMI/Display Port. I see the second monitor but they dont do a great job explaining how to config your second monitor aka GNS530 display by either propwash or RealSim gear. I just have have a blank white screen and everytime I try to pop out and drag the window to the second monitor I get nothing. Any help would be appreciated

You should see the desktop background on your second monitor just like your other monitors not white. Try disconnecting your other monitors and see if you can confirm the GPS monitor is really working correctly.

Unfortunately not available. The kit had some custom printed circuit boards that fit the bezel design. Check out this website and the links. This guy has the files and sourcing for all the parts. I think it looks pretty realistic. www.thingiverse.com/thing:2764205 Project page cessna172sim.allanglen.com/docs/avionics/garmin-gns-530/ Once built you could easily run the Arduino using Air Manager and it could work with FSX/P3D/XP11/MSFS. Let me know if you need help with that part.

Good news, I got Chuck to put his website back up and offer all the STL files and instructions for building the unit. He also told me that he has some supply of the PCBs need it if you want to follow his instructions and his bezel. It makes a really nice unit. He also has a few parts available and can provide details of what you need to complete the kit. You can visit the website at. www.simwarekitsonline.weebly.com For some reason the link doesn’t seem to work here you may have to enter it into a browser to get access to his website.

download a bit of software altdrag it allows you to undock the gps and drag it on to another screen and resize it that and the fact that it's easy to program the buttons in xplane 11 already makes it better than p3d or fsx. Check it out i found a tutorial on one of the sim sites

If you have a third party g50 addon like Reality XP or Flight 1 where you can display the screen in an external window and have access to the Events in FSX it could work. Air Manager is a way to interface with FSX to send events to the sim using their Arduino support.

Hi there Russ, thank you for the reply, information and offer of help. I followed your link and have studied the propwash products carefully. They certainly look OK to me but the cost, if in US dollars, is beyond my government 'pension' income. I will need to make my own from scratch. I have been given a Samsung Tablet that I have successfully conected wirelessly to my Simulator PC via SpaceDesk. I am hoping to make my own bezel to carry the encoders, switches and buttons. These I am intending to use with a Leo Bodnar board to send the data to P3D. I would certainly welcome your list of items to buy.
