That felt real! Damn! One thing I think the flight simulator s/w guys can do for mixed reality is to recognise fiducials on the physical cockpit. The fiducials can be a few QR code stickers (or whatever) that you place on your physical cockpit and then the software and do its warp and alignment as required. This is not a new idea and is used a lot in 3D camera calibration. Another idea would be to have the render engine do shadow or lighting contrast adjustments based on the VR views and project that on to your physical view (hence casting shadows or lighting in your cockpit). That would make it so much more immersive!

What setup do you have there ? Could you list your components you use in this video please ? I’m considering a quest3 and desperately need to update my old plastic pedals and yoke. I have MSFS so do you think the Mixed Reality pass ugh software would work the same (I assume so since it’s just a hole on the desktop ?). Would also like to know how immersive it is and how much it models reality. Thanks.

I couldn't get this to work for me (I'm 66 years old) has there been any progress from when you first showcased this software? I would love to get it to work. I couldn't get Reality Mixer to work either. I know I'm probably missing something simple. (that's usually my problem).

Hi M. Barlow, I'm looking at your videos with the passthrough and I'm trying to figure out why my air manager G1000 in passthrough is not working because your's are working fine. Mine freeze in vr and the touch screen is not working, but if I come out of vr it's working fine.... If you have a idea let me know thank you.

Hi M. Barlow, I installed air manager, I already have the knobster. When flying with the monitor I can use air manager with G1000 and knobster but if I try to fly with quest 3 in vr with virtual desktop and color panel, It says the kobster is not plug and the g-1000 don't work. Do you have a idea what can be my problem, thank you and have a nice day.

I thought what a great idea. 😂 I can stream the instruments onto the ipad and my son in the back seat can have an instrument panel, other than looking over my shoulder when he flys. Dam 😢 only for simulators...

Your comments about VR are very misinformed. PiMax 5k & 8K give 140 degrees FOV, Crystal is very clear and higher than 4k, motion sickness happens when your frame rate is not a fraction of your Hz i.e 90Hz = 45 or 30 fps. if you can't divide your Hz by your frame rate you have a mismatch leading to sickness, a few other points too but I forget in the moment as I'm moving house.
@rbarlow
@rbarlow 11 күн бұрын
Thanks for your input as I try to be as accurate as possible but my knowledge is ever evolving. Your criticism was rather broad and seemed to cover topics from several of my videos so it is difficult to respond point by point. One issue I will address is your comment on causes if VR Sickness. Just google "cause of VR sickness" and you will see the majority of sources supporting my theory as a major cause. While your framerate mismatch is not specifically mentioned it could create latency which is cited as a major issue in VR sickness that I agree with. Still some people are just more prone to motion sickness even with stable framerate and low latency. Regardless of the cause, assuming you were referring to my video on VR Sickness, my main purpose was to encourage users that it is possible to overcome the issue and not to give up after only a couple tries. Good luck in your new house.

Your job as a pilot was to fly safe and get plane on the ground. Microsoft’s job is only one thing: to increase shareholder value. Xplane probably went in the direction they did so they didn’t have to compete with MS. Austen meyer didn’t buy is Lancair by being a nice guy and building what we want; he found a way to make money and not compete with MS.

There is plenty of room in the marketplace for more than one sim. I have softened somewhat regarding MSFS2024 in the year since that video. All I can say is that I would be surprised if FS2024 is ever approved for use in an FAA approved training device. The music and explosions on start up give away the fact that it is first a game. I think it may spin off a serious training version as P3D came from FSX. I would welcome that. In the meantime for FAA approved training XP is the only viable choice. BTW Austin drives a Tesla too.

Thanks for this Russ. Do you know why there is a severe lack of free airliner instruments available for FS2020 to download from Sim Innovations? We have lots of instruments for prop aircraft (a lot of them variations of the same base instrument model), however, the few airliner instruments are almost all restricted to X-Plane or FSX, and with variable naming changes they are no use in FS2020.

I love your stuff! I am just getting back into flying and got my medical and BFR. I bought a Mooney 201 and will be building a complete simulator while doing my IPC. Monday I will be flying my plane to Salem to get a complete new avionics upgrade. This includes Garmin G3x, GTN 750, duel G-5s, and the Garmin 500 autopilot. I am going to do a complete replica of the plane in a simulator. I am going to upgrade my yoke, and build my own instrument panel. I have to say that the Real Sim stuff seems crazy expensive for what you get. I can buy a 3d printer, some Arduino Megas, and some early generation Ipads and make my own. It's going to be a journey and won't be done before the instrument panel is done and I start my IPC but I should have enough done to use the simulator to supplement the training. Hopefully the new force feedback yokes will be available by the time I get there. However, IPC is all about procedures so it isn't that important.
