If you haven't seen it yet, look up the video for his free skate at the 2019 Grand Prix Final. It's the Elton John program, but it was done to utter, complete, total perfection. It bugs me that Johnny and Tara say that his Olympic gold medal free skate is the most perfect he's ever skated, when he made an error. Just one and not a big one, but still. I guess it's their job, though, to say that. I'm just happy he got that gold medal. He deserved it.

Just so everybody knows, Tiffany Chin was the first American woman to do a triple Axel. It was better than Tonya's as well; maybe not as powerful, but flawless... Tiffany did the triple Axel back at a time when most women could not even do a triple flip.... BTW, Good luck at the Olympics Nathan! I hope your skate your best and win! I haven't seen the movie recently, but as a skater, that would be unheard of if it was the first (or one of the first) times she wore the skates, and then competed on them. It takes at least twelve hours of skating time to break in a pair of quality skates- for me it took longer, for others who skate 8 hours a day I'm not sure.
@Retroglamamour
@Retroglamamour 2 жыл бұрын
@@felixmastropasqua2820 thank you for that explanation! I was genuinely curious about that. In the movie, the drama after the scene shown here started when someone told the girl every figure skater knew better than to skate in a competition with brand new skates (gifted to the girl by her competitor’s mom). It seemed like a nice gesture until the girl fell so I didn’t understand why the new skates were bad 😅

Yeah like the others have pointed out it’s incredibly difficult to adapt to new skates on short notice. The Canadian champion Keegan Messing’s skates got lost on the way to Canadian National’s this year and he had 3 days to break in new skates ahead of the competition. Luckily his old skates did end up arriving the day before the competition started, but in interviews he talked about how he spent hours of training trying to break in the new boots in time.

I didn't even remember there being a skating scene in Flashdance. Heheh. The Cutting Edge and CE2 are just plain silly but fun to watch. That headbanger move is not even allowed in competition LOL so when I first saw that movie I was like... *what did I just see?* Love Nathan Chen. He is a phenomenal skater and so glad to see him win the Gold medal.

I remember another skating movie that was dedicated to the victims of the plane crash in the early 60s that killed the entire US skating team, I can't remember the name of it. I think it was about a pairs couple, and one of them dies in a plane crash and the other goes on to singles competition.
