No other actress could deliver these lines with such believability and sincerity. She was very underrated as an actress because audiences just assumed she was playing herself. Here's compilation #2: • Gracie Allen Compilati...

Gracie always said her sister was glad she only had two children because she had read in the Natural Geographic that every third child born in this world was Chinese.

No one but Gracie could deliver these lines with this much conviction. The rhythm came from her early career as an Irish dancer.

Any true "best lines" compilation for Gracie Allen would be at least 10 hours in length.

I love her so much 💕 your name is Chinese, right? There's an old Chinese singer from Gracie's time called Zhou Xuan, and I absolutely love her too. Amazing film called Street Angel/马路天使 starring her and it's one of my favorite films ever. Hope you are well bro

GRACIE ALLEN, A PRICELESS JEWEL! I HAVE LOVED HER IN THE SHOW THAT SHE STARRED IN WITH GEORGE BURNS (HUSBAND). SO, CLEAN AND FUNNY AND BEAUTIFUL! GRACIE DELIVERED LINES THAT ACTUALLY SOUNDED LIKE SHE HAD JUST HAD THE THOUGHT RUN ACROSS HER MIND. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A GRACIE ALLEN THAT COULD COMPETE WITH HER. GEORGE BURNS WAS A VERY LUCKY MAN!!

Just found out Gracie Allen inspired Arleen Sorkin, who voiced the original Harley Quinn.

The joke at 2:43 is a variation on one used on the radio show, when George and Gracie met Jack Benny for lunch: Gracie: I think I'll have lamb chops. Waiter: Madam will enjoy the lamb chops. We serve them with little paper panties on. Gracie: Gee, don't your legs get cold!?

A very, very funny lady - she sounds completely spontaneous, as if these thoughts really are just popping into her head.

Well, it didn't exactly hurt that she had already had 35+ years' showbiz experience by the point in her life you're seeing here in this video. 😉

@@vincentsartain3061 Very true, we tend to forget this. In the UK (sorry, I don't know where you're from) in the 1960's and 70's we had a very funny, very successful double act on TV called Morecambe and Wise. In 1977 half the country watched their Christmas show, 28,000,000 people! But they'd been working together in variety theatres since 1941. Look at their Greig Piano Concerto item with André Previn from 1971 - it's here on KZfaq if you look - 12 mins. of absolute joy.

Apparently the silhouette of a woman in the Gracie Films logo is her. That's why it's called Gracie Films.

Not once did Burns and Allen ever use "Say Goodnight Gracie / Goodnight Gracie." But Rowan and Martin used "Say Goodnight Dick / Goodnight Dick" instead.

She played off the vagueness and ambiguity of language so well ... when one word has multiple meanings, she chooses the one out of context for effect. When the sentence diagram is faulty, she exploits that to the fullest. My high school English teacher used her lines so many times to point out the response to improper sentence structure. You could tell if someone took his class, 'cause they were always funnier than those that didn't. They were able to pick up better those ambiguities and have a little fun with them. I'm not sad that she died ... every one does. I'm sad she didn't live longer. Gracie ... one of the few that could pull that line off.
