This is one of the best arrest videos I’ve ever seen! The man who intervened trains BJJ and the combination of his technique AND his calm communication with both the officer and suspect is the stuff of legends!
If anyone knows the cop, please let him know we’re gonna sponsor him to attend GST for in person certification or online certification, 100% free. With the little training officers get, I thought he did quite well.
If anyone knows the BJJ legend, please DM me ASAP. I want to gift him The 32 Principles.
Most cops appreciate help from civilians during challenging hands-on encounters. But before you intervene, consider the Triple-A protocol:
1. ASSESS the threat to the officer and to yourself. Is your help really needed? Is it even safe for you to intervene?
2 ASK permission to help and identify yourself to the officer. An officer has no way of knowing which team you're on, so let them know you're there to help and wait for explicit permission to help.
3. ACKNOWLEDGE the risks of intervention. There are safety risks and there are legal risks. Each jurisdiction has different laws regarding civilian intervention so make sure you know yours.
From this day forward (no past incidents), anyone who adheres to these guidelines who lawfully and safely intervenes, I’d like to reward your efforts with access to The 32 Principles, as long as your intervention is captured on camera OR verified by the officer involved. 🙏🏼
The 32 Principles order now at www.gracieuniversity.com/Page...

If the officer was wrong he was wrong and will be punished for it. Boubtful it is wrong especially if you resist that hard after so obviously losing. He should've realized he lost when both got on too of him, and if the man was being arrested wrongfully then relax and accept it. No point in getting so worked up and heated over something wrong being done to you when you are in a hole. The man just kept digging. This man didn’t just help the police officer, he helped the suspect that was resisting. This could have escalated to the point where the suspect was either shot by police. Or as he was attempting to steal the officer’s gun, he could have ended committing more serious crimes and never getting out of jail. This act of courage isn’t so simple as helping the cop only. His actions rippled out and helped both men, other officers who may have arrived later, innocent bystanders and the families of both men. He deserves some serious appreciation.

The potentially life-threatening problem was that his partner was a female. She records the situation on video which is useful but this could have ended very badly. Given that the BJJ Student did her job for her, he should get some money from the police department and she should have her pay docked. This is the type of training the public needs to see to have a better understanding of what law enforcement faces and what can happen. If the roles were reverse, that citizen, even with MMA training, would of probably needed assistance too. A cop has to position him/herself to maintain weapon control. And the guy resisting arrest is strong. Cops are really not in the position to "scrap" like people think they are due to all the equipment and numerous other issues.

I'm glad that guy was there because had he not been there this would have escalated into something else entirely. Like this police officer would have struggled with this person and that person may have gotten a hold of his gun and someone could have gotten shot. Also, after handcuffing the guy the police officer does the dirty tactics that officers unnecessarily do to people by placing a knee on the guy's neck with his body weight going down on the poor guy's neck. The guy helping him quickly told him "man, you don't need to do that he's not going anywhere", and he's right. He could have killed the poor guy like poor George Floyd died. Smh

Well done to that civilian for helping out so calmly and effectively when the police officer was struggling! Great to see the comments supporting them both. I saw one of these the other day, with a female officer who was assisted by a bystander in similar circumstances, and I am sad to say, an enormous number of the comments were along the lines of "this is why women shouldn't be 'allowed' to be police officers." I thought at the time that nonody would dream of saying that men shouldn't be allowed to be police officers if any of them ever accept help from civilians and it seems that is the case here, even though the civilian was actually coaching the less skilled officer.

That is how LAPD got Jeff Fenn. At the time he fought to save the life of the now late Theresa Saldana, he was delivering bottled water. IIRC She gave a recommendation & got him a spot in the police academy.

@@steve00alt70 It is often suggested by police, because Americans have gotten in the habit of not getting involved, partly because of fear of injury, or of getting sued, or of the occasional rebuff from an ignorant officer. We really do need people to start helping again. Many police rightly think of the situation, not as us police against everyone else, but as us, police and lawful folks, against the unlawful. It's community unity against crime.

@@steve00alt70 I don’t believe their is a standard medal, but I have seen certain counties give out some type of plaque for civilians that help officers in need. It’s 100% up to the departments. I’m sure you guys may give out some type of reward for those in the same situation?

How do you or the assistant know that this officer wasn’t violating this man’s rights? Like they usually are because of the overwhelming ignorance of the people? Even after the guy is hand cuffed the pig still has his knee on the guy. AND RESPONDS WITH AN ATTITUDE. What a flipping pig.

The people who are talking badly against the officer need to understand a few things. The officer had no backup and was trying to put a very strong man who was probably on drugs into handcuffs behind his back. No matter how good of training any one person or officer might have, putting a very strong man into handcuffs behind their back can be impossible without help. Trying to put a very strong man into handcuffs behind their back while wearing a police belt with a gun attached makes it even harder when that same person is trying to take control of that gun.
