Watch me grade a bar exam essay I took a few weeks ago. This is an actual past bar exam question where I use the bar examiner's grading criteria and grading rubric.

This is a very easy MEE question and still it would take most people 35-40min rather than 22-25min to complete it. Note the grading criteria says "appropriate" not "correct" conclusion so all the points are won or lost in the analysis not the conclusion.

I look at model answers. Are practice bar exam essays the same as the practice essays that are avalible for different law school classes?

The nice thing about practice bar exam essays is that they were created by a team of people. Practice exams created by one faculty member might be good or bad--you don't know. But keep practicing--that is the key to improvement.

Hope you pass this time. Also, think about moving to a state with a higher pass rate if your goal is to become a lawyer somewhere.

Hello Professor, I have a question. About A level law essay structure , I dont see much examples about it on KZfaq. I have made an assignment by using my own structure which is Point , Explain , Example , Evaluate and Link back to the question. Does my structure affect my grades or there is a alternative structure for a level law structure? I have always watched your videos. Thank you alot for giving valuable information that I dont get from other videos.

Can you send me a link to that type of essay? I’ve worked with Australian law students, who have different types of essays than we have in the US. In those instances the key is to follow an organizational system-yours seems fine. The problem I’ve noticed is an extreme variation in professor grading standards. This means that the best organizational approach on your end won’t necessarily result in top grades if the professor is looking for something else.

In short, it would affect your grades. The structure you have posted is tailored for faculties outside of Law. If you are a student in Australia, IRAC is the method used in Law across Australia, UK and NZ. Look up Professor Ken Lin Book K Yin & A Desierto, A (2016), Legal problem solving and syllogistic analysis: a guide for foundation law students, LexisNexis Butterworths, Chatswood, New South Wales (“Yin and Desierto”)

Would you please discuss in your next video "the meaning of law" in layman language. Not the typical bookish meaning.

@@Learnlawbetter Professor, I read what you posted about something new they did in Utah. The following is my response to this change they made in Utah. In a way this is a good thing because it opens up bussiness oppertunaties that would not be avalible otherwise but this change might be problematic if the bussiness owner does not exercise extreme caution when selecting a lawyer to come work for them. It would also be difficult to determine what type of lawyer to hire because there are alot of different areas of law and I guess that most if not all lawyers probably specialise in a specific area of law in a way that may be similar to how a doctor specializes in a specific specalty in Medicine. The good thing about this that it may lower the amount of money someone would need to pay in order to hire a lawyer. This change can make justice, the courts, and knowledge of the law more accessible. Lack of access to effective counsel, systemic and institutional racism, and outdatated and ineffective laws that have failed to adapt to changes in society are the factors that I beleive are at the root of the problems in the judicial and criminal justice systems in this country. I beleive that the problems that are above may also be the cause of mass incarceration that takes place in this country. The fact that the justice system in this country focuses too much on punishment and less on rehabilitation is also a major problem in the justice system. I beleive that the collateral consequences that occur as a result of being convicted of a crime in this country especially a felony may be at the root of recidivism in this countty,s correctional facilities. Research has shown that providing people who are incarcerated with post-secondary education and a GED program have proven to be very effective in the reduction of recidivism and an effective tool to use to aid in the rehabilitation of people who have broken the law and have been incarcerated.

Can someone still have a good career and many oppertunaties if they go to law school and get put on probation or get kicked out?
@Learnlawbetter
@Learnlawbetter 3 жыл бұрын
I suspect that future employers will want to know why someone was kicked out of law school. Make sure to have a an answer ready to go. And yes, you can still have a good career--don't let one event define your whole life.

Professor, do you think that an example similair to the one you showed in this video would be too hard for first year law school students to answer?
@Learnlawbetter
@Learnlawbetter Жыл бұрын
My examples are based on real exams I give in law school, including the first year. They are hard because the bar exam is hard. I see no reason to hide the ball, so from day one they know what to expect.
