For best results view at 1080p60fps. Oh, look, Konami's Gradius joins the Utterly Pointless Comparisons series! Yay! This game is also known as Nemesis. In this episode I take at the arcade and PC Engine (aka Turbografx-16) versions of Gradius. Why "aka Turbografx-16" instead of a slash? Because Konami never released this HuCard title in the USA.
Anyhoo, enjoy a complete playthrough of both versions with commentary along with some info about the game both before and after the gameplay portion of the video.

Even the “happy little trees” after the volcanoes look happier on the PC Engine version 😂🤣😭👏🏾🎮.

ARCADE has way more pixelated explosions..btw the 5th stage kills the NES port as well xD

Thr stage 6 PC Engine music is so much more inspiring than the original. Wow?! I mean neither is anything to light a fire in ones afterburners to get to the boss however man it is much better 😂👏🏾.

Have you played the redone more arcade accurate hidden version of this on a PC Engine/ TurboGrafx mini? I am now curious. I know someone has a comparo video of the two PC Engine versions out there.

I have not, I don't have a mini. Unless they end up on sale super cheap somewhere I probably won't. I waited until I could get a Genesis mini for about $30... and I love the Gensis, lol. I only LIKE the PCE/TG16 😁

@@InglebardGaming I thankfully had experienced the console growing up so I am a huge fan. I paid a little extra for one getting one through Zenmarket. I didn’t care because I wouldn’t take no for an answer as far as having one and I refuse to support scalpers. I have a PC Engine mini. I haven’t tried that version though. It really is closer to the arcade. M2 did an awesome job revising it.

We got our Turbo within a week or two of when it came out in 1989 😱 just shortly after we got our Genesis. Got the CD-rom about two years later second hand for $30. I like the TG16 and a lot of its games. I'm not knocking it, but it just felt more like a slightly fancified 8bit system (which it was) than the Genesis and SNES - the way things looked, moved and felt. Also its first-party gamepad was terrible, so stiff. Still, I really enjoyed stuff like Dragon Spirit, R-Type, Dragon Sabre, Ys, Salamander, Dragon's Curse, Devil's Crush, Super Star Soldier and some more.

@@InglebardGaming my friend had it andnwe used to kill Bloody Wolf, Final Lap Twin, Ys Book I&II when he got the CD, Last Alert, and Bonks Adventure. I ended up buying it from him a few years later when he got N64 and then PlayStation. I still own the TG-16 to this day. N the interim he git a TurboDuo and broke it. Years later he sold it to me and his Turbo Express for about $50. I sent the broken Duo along with $75.00 to Turbo Zone Direct and they sent me an NOS Duo as they were trying to sell off their remaining inventory as they would eventually fold. I still own all of those however the Turbo Express needs some TLC. I am definitely a fan 😂.

Considering they put all of this on a little 1.7 MB HuCard I give them a lot of credit for what they were able to achieve. I love how devs really had little tricks and such to be able to work beyond the limits of platforms like this.

Yeah, it really was amazing how they were often able to shrink games down to like 1/50th of the original size while keeping them so similar to the originals. But man, that slowdown in this game 🤷‍♂️

The vast majority of HuCards were only 400kB and this is one of them

It would have been nice to see either Gradius II or III on the Genesis/MD. I can live with them skipping the first one 😁 Anyway, the closest we got was one stage in the first Rocket Knight Adventures. Shame.

They should have gone with Nemesis II for Genesis with Konami’s awesome sound engine, pixel art, sprite work, and skill to work every one of the 68000 7 mhz. That would have been the way to go.
