Worried about how you’re going to pay for graduate entry medicine?
I was too.
I felt like there was quite a lot of confusion over fees and funding when I went through the process, so today in my first video about money, I’m going to break down the costs of graduate entry medicine.
Graduate entry medicine is expensive but definitely do-able.
Feel free to leave any questions or comments and I will do my best to get back to you!

Well, Dr Sara Nicholls can I just start off by saying 8 months ago I watched a video of yours, reigniting my love and passion for medicine which I once had before I decided to apply for Engineering back when I was 17. Now, in my penultimate year of my degree I applied to graduate medicine... I now have 2 interviews to study medicine :) one done in Belfast and the other in April at Nottingham! I'm just so thankful to you and seen as you ignited my passion, I would really appreciate any tips/tricks you would be willing to give for the interview! Best wishes for the rest of your career and who knows I one day may become your colleague!😂😂

Usman Tahir wow that’s absolutely fantastic!! Congratulations on your interviews, that’s so exciting! You will be brilliant, engineering and medicine are both basically working out solutions to problems and fixing things, right?! Thanks so much for sending this message, it’s really made my day. I love making these videos and it’s comments like this that remind me why I make them :) I made a video about interviews here if you want to see but if you have any further questions please let me know and I’ll see if I can answer them! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/layRl5erprPRmoU.html

Hi thanks for the video. I just wondered if you knew how independent student status works for the NHS funding. Do you get independent student status for being 25 years old on the day of or before the first day of the academic year?

Hi Dr Sara, I’m a NI student and I’m currently a year 2 Biomed student at QUB and definitely want to go on a do GEM. I was wondering how you apply to the NHS for the 2-4 year tuition fees or is it automatic? Also where would be best places to go and ask about finance, I presume NI will have different rules (like always) from the rest of the Uk. Thanks a million you cemented my belief that I can do it 😁

Hiya, thanks for the video! I'm hoping to do Graduate Entry but I'm unsure how they assess my eligibility for partially paid tuition fees in first year if it's not mean tested? What would make me eligible for this? My parents can't afford to help me out financially so I'm kinda relying on SFE to pay part of the tuition fee loan. Any guidance please? Thank you.

I wondered after our last chat if you could answer another question. I know you said you wanted to get the loan. I was under the impression you have to find a certain amount of the first year of GEM yourself and then nhs bursary fund the remainder Also do you get maintenance loans still as a GEM student Thinking of doing a degree before medicine if I get but not sure where I’m going at this point yet Thank you

Where did you find all this information I researched so much and never seen any type of funding for GEM apart from nhs bursary ones. Great video. I’m torn between doing a degree prior to medicine then GEM or undergraduate as it’s tough. I thought about a paramedic course then some experience with that then apply to GEM medicine. I know I can also apply to standard entry medicine as well as a graduate

Dreaming Of Medicine thanks for watching! Definitely difficult to decide what to do. Have you done some shadowing for each of those roles to see what you enjoy most? I know, finding the info is sometimes the hardest part! Even when I’d started the course I still felt like I didn’t fully understand what was going to happen in years 2,3 and 4 money-wise (and I know my fellow medical school friends felt just as baffled as me!) If you google ‘graduate entry medicine funding’ it mostly brings up individual universities and their finance info page. They each have some useful information, eg warwick.ac.uk/services/academicoffice/funding/fundingyourstudies/medics2017/ www.nottingham.ac.uk/studentservices/support/financialsupport/studentfunding/fundingforgemstudents.aspx www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/fees-and-funding/oxford-support/funding-for-medical-students

What does 'means tested' and 'non means tested' mean?
@SarahNicholls
@SarahNicholls 6 жыл бұрын
Faz 123 ‘means tested’ is where they judge how much money they will give/lend you depending on your current financial income. They will ask you to prove how much money you had coming in for example in the last year. If you live with your parents they will judge it on your parents income. Non-means tested is when everyone is eligible for the same amount, regardless of their earnings. Hope that makes sense!
