Thanks for watching :) there are many graduate programmes that accept students without a science background - therefore no top-up course required.

@@DrEzgiOzcan Hi, I found that all of the Grad entry requires a form of test such as GAMSAT, which can be challenging for people who has not done any science since GCSE or away from school for a long time.

If you check out this website you’ll see that only half actually require the GAMSAT www.themedicportal.com/application-guide/graduate-entry-medicine/

Very well explained. Thanks Dr Ezgi. Do you recommend GEM to someone who has a PhD in completely different field and is 40 years of age?
@DrEzgiOzcan
@DrEzgiOzcan Жыл бұрын
it depends on a lot of things as mentioned in the video. I'm always an advocate for 'do what you aspire to do' but I know there are other factors that can influence this such as finances. I'd balance the number of years you will be practicing as a doctor until retirement against your quality of life at the moment and start planning from there :)

Hi, I’m just wondering how much volunteering work/work experience you had done before getting into GEM? I’ve worked in a hospital for a year because I’m a pharmacy graduate but wanted to get ~3-6 months volunteer experience in, along with some at a GP. Would this be sufficient? Thanks!
@DrEzgiOzcan
@DrEzgiOzcan 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Terrell - there is no set amount really (although Warwick university are quite specific and state the number of hours they want you have done - have a look at the document on their website). The hospital experience you have is going to be very valuable, so good idea on gaining some volunteering too as this will demonstrate lots of your other skills. if you can get a GP placement too that would be amazing but may be difficult in the pandemic. check out my videos on 'how to get work experience for medical school' and 'how i got into ucl medical school' for more info on these . good luck

@bhaargavanand7928
@bhaargavanand7928 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! In grad entry medicine, the students would be directly placed in 3rd year or they would cover 1st and 2nd year subjects once they enter??
@DrEzgiOzcan
@DrEzgiOzcan 3 жыл бұрын
If you enter a graduate programme you do a total of 4 years of which the first year is a condensed version of years 1 and 2 of the undergraduate programme

I have a question not really relating to the video. But I am starting GP training in August, i know you did obs and gynae and you're going to do psych? Just wondering if you have any recommendations on what you think would be the most useful placements for GP? :)
@DrEzgiOzcan
@DrEzgiOzcan 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Eve. Great question. I tried to choose specialties I wasn’t exposed to in foundation years. Big topics for me particularly as a female GP were obgyn and psych so I tried to choose jobs that had those rotations. So it totally depends on what you need exposure too post foundation training. Hope that helps 😊

@@DrEzgiOzcan Yes it does ! thank you so much! After you got assigned to your hospital, did you then get to preference jobs at that hospital then? I've just accepted my hospital but haven't heard anything about how picking jobs wokrs or if its randomly given to you ! :)
@DrEzgiOzcan
@DrEzgiOzcan 3 жыл бұрын
Yep. So once the hospital admin team collate all the allocated trainees they’ll send out the rotations available which you end up ranking too. And then a few weeks after you get your confirmation and contract for your first job 😊

hi im a biomedical student who is in last month of my course and planning to do graduate medicine. But im already 28yrs this year, but becoming a doc is my ambition and i have work hard for it all this years ..when its time to achieve it my age factor came across ..i feel de motivating sometimes due to this but at the same time i dont want to miss my chance of becoming a doc which i have work hard for. could please give me some advice on this
@DrEzgiOzcan
@DrEzgiOzcan 2 жыл бұрын
Hi :) 28 is still pretty young, we had students in there 40s on the course so its really never too late. if you think about the number of years you can practice as a doctor until you get to retirement age, it really doesnt matter if youve started late as the end goal is the same, and that is to do medicine and be a doctor :)

Is GEM also equivalent to the normal 5-6 years Undergrad MBBS degree? Is it accepted worldwide, especially in India - in case I plan to work here?? Do they mention it as grad entry medicine on our degree certificate?
@DrEzgiOzcan
@DrEzgiOzcan 2 жыл бұрын
you qualify with the same medical degree and it'll write MBBS or equivalent on your certificate (won't mention that its a graduate programme) For that reason it wont affect job prospects internationally

@@DrEzgiOzcan Then what's the diff btw 4 year and 6 yea course? How do GEM students cover up the portions in such a short duration?
@DrEzgiOzcan
@DrEzgiOzcan 2 жыл бұрын
The graduate entry course has a much shorter summer holiday and the previous degree usually will cover some of the basics so you can get through the same amount of information in 4 years.
