My best memory of Klopp is when Liverpool were 3 nil down to Barca in the first match, and in the 2nd leg through sheer force of will he galvanised Liverpool to smash 4 past Barcelona to win, heavy metal Football at its best, what a Manager

As a united fan I have nothing but respect for Klopp. One of the greatest managers in football history imo. What he has done in such a short time is nothing short of miraculous.

As an Arsenal fan I absolutely love Klopp. The league will miss him massively.

It's actually a good tactic to announce it now. He's been a great servant of the club and now two things will happen: Liverpool players will fight to the end for him and have extra incentive to win the league, and also now Liverpool fans have this announced can prepare for a new era next season and won't be expecting klopp so won't be suddenly let down in summer. If he was leaving, there's no better way to do it. No negative here imo.

Up there with Shankley and Paisley, equally as shocking when they decided to leave . Devastated

The mark of a great manager is knowing when it's time to walk away. He's made the right decision for himself - you have to respect that.

Walking away at the top, on your own terms, leaving behind a fresh young team. Probably the greatest managerial accomplishment you can achieve nowadays.

Klopp has so far left all of his three clubs on his own terms (Mainz, Dortmund, Liverpool). Nobody ever told him to leave. And everywhere his departure created a mix of sadness and gratitude with the clubs and their supporters. Now these are obviously massive boots to fill. Xabi Alonso would be the obvious candidate - what a story this would be if he were to go head to head with his former coach Pep Guardiola. Roberto de Zerbi would be another fine and interesting option.

I like Klopp, I like his honesty, his tactical knowledge, and his ability to produce good entertaining teams and I'm a Manchester United fan.

Klopp isn't easy replaceable, it's like United when they tried to replace Fergie and still trying. So Liverpool might see some long term pain for many years now because for me Klopp and PEP are the 2 best managers in world football regardless of what order you want to put them.

It's no surprise really, it must be so tiring trying to compete with city and Chelsea and the scandalous amounts of money they can spend and to continually compete with them is some achievements! Best manager by far. Good luck to him and God bless him. Ynwa

I think the benefits are: - It doesn’t leak and become a distraction to his team - It allows assistants and support staff to look for work if necessary - It allows Liverpool to start a search for his replacement and have an entire summer with that replacement in place - like Martin said, it allows Klopp to look players in the eye and be honest with them and with what he is asking/ coaching

This is such a great loss for football. Klopp is such a likable leader, he was often head to head with Pep, this man had done so many things for the club and for football in general. You will be sorely missed. Always a Liverpool at heart...

I understand questioning the timing of Klopp's surprising decision to 'call it quits', but the task at hand for Liverpool to fill the void left by Klopp and his staff will be enormous to say the least. I suppose, moving forward, Liverpool's owner and the board will already be looking for an appropriate candidate for the baton to pass onto. Klopp deciding to leave and the timing are both inconveniences to say the least, but if Klopp decided to step down in the summer, or later, it would cause a real problem next season, and possibly onwards depending on the repercussions that would potentially occur if this were to be the case. Klopp making the decision now gives the club time to source through a plethora of candidates. The downside being the psychological effect his departure may have on the club and supporters, as well as his own mental state going forward. According to the club statement Klopp made this decision in November, and his standards haven't faltered yet. One can hope (unless you're a Manchester United fan) that news of his departure being released won't deter due process of challenging for the quadruple.

Let the man leave, he's been the best manager at this football club since Bob Paisley, and we have to respect his decision. He's put a massive smile on my face for the best part of 9 years and whatever he decides to do I'm on board with. Thank you very much Jurgen ...

Glad he is doing this on his terms but never a good time for this announcement! Best manager in my opinion, he brings the passion and players want to do well for him. Sad day for Liverpool FC and the PL! For this man built some spectacular teams, overturning a 0-3 deficit to BARCA @ Anfield was just an unforgettable game. I watched it in a bar in Berlin and next to me was 2 French guys, they got talking to me when they heard my accent, when it went to 3-3, one said "Only an English team could do this". At 4-3 the other said "Only Liverpool at Anfield could do this!" I nodded in a state of shock myself, but oh how right he was! I'm an Arsenal fan and an Irishman, but I cant tell you how proud I felt for Liverpool.

Nope. I watched the 24minute interview. Klopp is burn out. Its very clear to see. This had nothing to do with any of that nonsense. What did him was the season chasing a quad and failing and that would have taken everything out of him

Its a simple reason why now. Klopp told liv in november he was leaving and its already past halfway in the season. They have to start looking for a new manager and staff seriously. No way you can keep that secret for very long. Instead of whispers every week might as well get ahead of it.

I think this decision by Klopp may just end up being a masterstroke. The edge his players need to overcome City this season and win the league. It will for sure rally the players together and the supporters and perhaps push the club over the line to win the league. I think this is the reason why Klopp has announced this now and not the end of the season.

Klopp reminds me of Keegan with being a heart on the sleeve kind of guy. Honest/proud and give their all to a cause and when they think they can't do that any more they hand in their notice, they aren't the type that will keep turning up for a payslip. I'm just not sure why he didn't announce this at the start of the season instead of halfway in. It would've been much easier to take if he'd said in August "this will be my last season". Because now it does feel a little bit like it's an opportunity wasted that we have a good squad again that can kick on a win trophies under him and we'll never get the chance to see it happen.
