I had an idea for new lore for a reworked Gragas where he is one of the last Hearthblood who goes on a journey through Runeterra to create the greatest beer that mortal hands can make to gain the favour of Ornn. That would also open him up to other things, like canonically meeting and becoming friends with Jax, maybe even joining his team to fight the void since as a Hearthblood, their goals would align since Ornn built the howling abyss. Edit: This is possible now that Legends of Runeterra will be fully canon, which revealed that the Hearthblood are starting to make a resurgence as Ornn regains followers. So let me rephrase: Not one of the last Hearthblood, one of the few.

The worst part is that a redesign wouldn’t be too hard. Give him a modern model, LoR Avarosan aesthetic, give him a big, hearty smile and make him a merry, idealistic peacekeeper who hopes everyone will get along if they party together. Drunk Braum, basically.

I feel like Tahm Kench is a fat character that also feels powerful, that isn't played for a joke. Then again, I know nothing about character design, so maybe it's just me

Gragas seems usually more to Obelix to me cause of how he is portrayed. Never really see him being fat as a negative. It's more of you aren't sure if you're suppose to take someone like Gragas serious due to him being fat til he starts kicking your ass. Personally, he needs a ASU like ASAP after Teemo and Lee Sin.

I think they should already say (if they didn’t do this already) that Iceborns are immune or resistant to the cold in the Freljord. There is just too many naked characters there with Ashe, Udyr, Braum , Gragas, Tryndamere, Olaf etc.

As a gragas main I will say that I think the short story does paint gragas in a sort of more serious light, like he is truly a master of his craft and so can tell when he’s being tricked. In game he just acts like a bumbling oaf, but at least the short shows a different side to gragas. I honestly think in the mmo he could serve as an interesting side quest character where you have to like find all the special ingredients for his beer or something, and riot could take the opportunity to expand on that different side of gragas. Also vandal gragas is actually a pretty cool skin that turns him more like roadhog in terms of looks (not voice lines unfortunately). In general he could definitely do with a new voiceover.

Your Soraka redesign really reminded me of what happened to Alexstraza in Heroes of the Storm. Similar archetype, but she went from generically thin to much more of a thiccer body (though I wouldnt say chubby for her. More like...heavy set?)

You know what I think would help Gragas design? ( beside the obvious ofc) a Braum like smile. He should be kind and polite when not drinking, he should be someone who you can go get drunk with and get in to the fight but someone who will listen when situation needs it and will try to cheer you up

My personal thoughts on soraka not being a heavier or even a medium-sized character mainly due to the idea that she is burning away constantly. I understand the idea of a mother like figure or a caretaker but my immediate thoughts is that if she is burning this form away stain it because she is that powerful there shouldn't be that much of a body there.

Im guessing that the reason why Gragas is seemingly unphased by the cold is based on the same mode of thought as that story about the survivor of the Titanic who supposedly managed to survive in the frigid waters long enough to get to safety because he was drunk. The version of the story I was told as a kid was that the alcohol helped maintain his body heat, but in actuality, he was just so blitzed that it kept his body from panicking or going into shock when it logically would have, be it on the boat, or when coming into contact with the shockingly cold waters. The funny thing is that, if this is in fact where part of the back story inspiration came from, then its hilariously wrong on both levels, since alcohol doesn't help you survive the cold, and Gragas can't even get drunk so that he can ignore it XD Congrats, Riot, you played yourself :P

I've thought at times about how Gragas could be redesigned to fit better, both lore and looks, and one idea I thought of was to still keep him fat, still keep the alcohol and him being jolly, but instead of having us laugh at him because he is fat and drunk, he should have us laugh with him. When I look at his lore and his character I think of someone who is the life of the party, someone you look at and go "hey, he knows how to have fun!". Basically make him part of the Freljord and have him stumble upon a shard of true ice, but have him be from the south, where people live more comfortably which would in turn explain why he is on the bigger side. Have him be fascinated by alcohol, and wanting to be a brewmaster and since he is in the south he probably has access to a wider variety of imported ingredients, instead of just wanting to get piss drunk. As for looks I'd say the key parts that identify him visually are his size, his beard, and his casket. First off, give him some clothes, at least a pair of pants and boots, and cover the lower part of his belly with the pants. A disdented belly flopping out like that just gives this sloppy, disgusting look, so keeping his belly tucked inside his pants would already help a LOT. Then maybe give him some signature Freljordian tattoos instead of those odd markings he has. Next, have his beard be braided more intricately, smoothes and brushed but still big and long. It shows he grooms himself, that he looks after himself and cares about his looks, this lessens the drunken oaf vibes. You can keep him bald too. And last but not least, do not show him looking violent, or sloppy, or drunk, instead show him happy, smilling, jovial, make him look like he is the best guy you can hang out with. That's what I at least think an ideal visual and lore touch up for him should be. We should laugh with him, not at him.

As a brazilian, I am personally offended that Nicholas J. Boi of the NickyBoi KZfaq channel has dared to offend one of the best characters in the whole damn game. Memes aside, though, Gragas is absolutely beloved over here, so it sucks to see you dislike his design so much. Sure, I agree his model could definitely use an update, but even as someone who is a sucker for the lore, I freaking love Gragas' design, despite just how dumb the whole thing is.

I'd want gragas to be some legendary bartender and brewer in the freljord that will kick your fucking ass if you try to start a fight or disrespect his establishment. You can even have him be silly but in a sorta merry jokester guy who is charismatic and cool. Keep him fat, give him some real clothes, and make him stop being a fat joke and more of a friendly fat bartender who will lift your spirits while serving you spirits.

It could be fun of they leant in towards the whole Brewster aspect and made so having Gragas on your team grant you access to exclusive potions that are brews he created that have different effects. IE: a smooth Ionian-inspired wine that grants movement speed and gain mana from killing, a sharp Noxian-inspired whisky that grants attack damage and let's your first ability on a enemy champion deal burning damage, etc.

Legends of Runeterra reinvents the characters and the lore around them into a modernized, beautiful new melody that still captures their roots, yet perfectly captures what they where always meant to since the beginning. It's like taking a caterpillar, putting him into the LoR cocoon and then a beautiful, iridecent butterfly emerges. Wild Rift ist a set of Snapchat filters put on every champ that change just enough for it to look better, but do nothing to make it look different.

The reason why "chubby" Soraka doesn't work is because she is giving even when she doesn't have anything to spare. She is practically skin-and-bones, frail-looking, wears thin clothing, and yet she *STILL* gives of herself to the point that it literally hurts her. That idea gets lost if the character doing it looks like they live comfortably and eat well.

This is a stretch and an obscure comparison maybe, but I'm watching Fairy Tail right now and there's a character named Bacchus, his whole deal is basically being a drunk, but they designed him so well and he's a really likable character. If riot did something like him with Gragas, I think he could be a really good champion.

I think my lore/redesign of gragus would lean into the whole “way of the drunken fist” trope. Make him a frelordian who travels to Ionia to optimize his beer. Have him meet the “masters of the brew” who are drunk monks and he trains with him. Fuck I just made shitty udyr.

This may or may not be a hot take, idk, but I think an asu for Gragas could fairly easily convert him into Bilgewater champion, and I think that would be cool

when i was new to league and finding content creators to watch, i found a streamer i really liked who was a gp main. and then his second champ to play was gragas, and that was my introduction to him. and when i tell you i had to turn the stream off whenevrr he would play gragas because of the sound of his constant burping. it grossed me out so much i could not handle it at all but now im kinda used to it enough to tune out

He has one of the most skill expressive kits in the game. He really has a very high skill cap despite a pretty low skill floor.

His design would benefit so much from adding a shard of true ice and how it transform someone that is not iceborne but can somehow withstand the magic coming from it.

Gragas Caskbreaker is a personal favorite skin of mine for Gragas, when I played him. Still kinda bland but actually gives him cloths and fits him in the fantasy setting. Its a much better default skin than the default.

I would also argue that gragas' gameplay is really good, he is very fun to play and has a very high skill ceiling. When they rework him I really want to have his gameplay stay almost the same. You might not be able to tell, but when you are playing against a good gragas vs a bad gragas it's noticeable. Really the visuals are my main issues with him

The first time i started playing league way back, i remember the first question i asked my friend was "Who is the fattest most disgusting character" and he showd me gragas. I have been playing him since then. And yes i agree, he could do with a modern aesthetic and finally some lore or personality. But to me, the fat, drunken man throwing kegs around idea is what appeals to me. Funny you mentioned Roadhog, because that is the only other character that sold me a game instantly.

Make Gragas raised by trolls or something or he integrates into a Troll tribe because their regeneration allows them to drink copious amounts of really strong alcohol and he can actually keep up with them and have some really potent booze and his strength and love of alcohol makes the tribe accept him then they get rolled over by Trundle after refusing to join him and Lissandra then he adopts this last survivor troll kid and goes on adventures with this kid to make them happy and see the world. Then we have a reason for him to wear a loin cloth and i literally just ripped this entire shit off of what Warcraft did with Chen, take the fat drunk panda character and give him a spunky niece to explore the world 15 years later

Gragas is fat because Riot wants to show that no matter how much nobody plays him, nobody appreciates him, he's still one of the champions that'll eventually get given a rework to make him look great like he does in wildrift. But unlike corki, hillbilly gragas is just hilarious and makes so much more goofy sense for his old model. (I swear I don't have a bias because gragussy from Tobias Fate)
