The longhorns that they parade through town are the gentlest they can find. They would never drive a herd of normal cattle through town.

The heat - last time I was there - the temperature was 113 degrees with 70 humidity - UGH!!! Chiggers - little bugs that get under your skin and itch like crazy - the only cure is to use fingernail polish on the bumps where they are. When I visited with my parents a scorpion fell off the roof of our van and hit my dads watch and then fell on the ground. My great uncle stomped on it and killed it. Then when we got back to Michigan, my dad came out to the van in the morning (it was cold) and there was a dead tarantula on his seat - it died from the cold weather - but traveled with us from Texas.

When my kids were little I would put a capful of Lysol in the bath water after they got through playing outside. It killed the redbugs or chiggers before they could burrow into their skin. 18:28

If it's daytime when a tornado happens in the vicinity, the sky turns what we call "tornado green." I interrupted dinner one evening to have the kids look at the sky and remember the importance of the color. The next day I couldn't go to work because the tornado had turned downtown Fort Worth into a serious mess.

When my dad was a kid in the 50s, his family went out on a picnic one day and came home to find their neighborhood had been hit by a tornado. They had no idea it had even happened. They were very fortunate that their house wasn't struck, but plenty of their neighbors lost everything.

So that means I drive 880 miles (one way) across Texas. I love the drive west of San Antonio or across the "pan handle" towards Albuquerque, NM. PS. The reason chips/crisps have a pocket of air in the bag is to prevent crushing during shipping. They are sold by weight, not volume. Items such as Buc-es Nuggets can be filled to the top of the bag because there is not a breakage issue.

You can be driving around the small town country roads, hit a town and pass the Dairy Queen and Sonic, round a bend and suddenly encounter the biggest, newest, most spectacular building you’ve ever seen - and it’s the local town high school 🤣. And next to it the huge new football stadium.

So Glad you got your BBQ Pit. Jono, I’m from Texas and I BBQ quite a bit. When you start your fire and build a coal base. The wood need not be prepped. But when adding wood to your cook, strip the bark off of your wood you are adding. The bark will give your meat a bitter taste. Some barks more than others. But still bitter. Starting the coal base isn’t as important. The bark will have burnt off. Just don’t add your meat until you have a good coal base.

I live in Fort Worth Texas. I have been through countless tornado warnings. I've been hit by a tornado. The first tornado that I went through was when I was 8 years old. It was April, 10 of 1979 in Wichita Falls, Texas. It was called "Terrible Tuesday". It was the largest tornado to ever hit the United States at the time. It came so close to our home that it busted out all the windows and picked up our motor home and gently bumped it onto the side of our house. I still remember the sound...it was as if a train were passing right over us (We had a cellar for protection). Later in life I became an on-air personality and had my own show in country music radio. One of my responsibilities was to be on-call in case of severe weather. I basically just gave weather updates on the air whenever severe weather was imminent. The stories I could tell you! I have grown to oddly love severe weather. Fortunately, Texas is so big that much of the state is just vast wide-open, uninhabited space. Most tornado's occur in these areas.

I’m from Benton, Arkansas, in Saline County, in the central AR Little Rock metro area. The rivalry between the Saline Co (pronounced suh-LEEN) schools of Benton and Bryant got so big that they moved the yearly game to the War Memorial Stadium in LR, which seats over 50,000, back in the early 2000s. It’s called the Salt Bowl, and it attracts upwards of 40,000 (roughly the population of Benton city limits). Both have really good school districts, both are consistently in about the top 7% nationally academically; the town of Bryant is smaller but the school is bigger.

10:46 There's a large graffiti culture in the U.S. I got into some trouble as a young teen and had to do 150 hours of court-ordered community service. Every Saturday, me, a counselor, and a group of other juveniles, went to a local business that had been graffitied. If it was just small tags, we'd use acetone wipes (basically nail polish remover on a napkin). Sometimes it would be a large mural and we'd have to paint the whole wall. Here in Louisiana there's lots of historical buildings, and sadly they got graffitied a lot. If it was a really important historical site, the city would hire a restoration company to clean it up.

I'm living at my 34th address in places all around the world, but, praise God I lived 24 years of my life in the Great State of Texas. Don't get me wrong, I've loved everyplace I've lived, which includes 15 states in the United States, Germany, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Hawaii, Qatar, and the United Kingdom, and they are all fantastic in their own way. But, Texas is special. The Alamo, Buc-ee's, Texas A&M Aggies (Whoop!), the University of Texas Longhorns (Hook 'em!), the Dallas Cowboys, the Houston Texans, Tex-Mex (salivating), HEB, Texas barbeque (again, salivating), the world's best margaritas, turnarounds, breakfast tacos, Whataburger, frontage roads, the hill country, the Gulf coast, THE RIVERWALK (OMG), and, the greatest restaurant in THE ENTIRE WORLD (and I've literally been around the world), Paloma Blanca in Alamo Heights in San Antonio. You must get the Chili con Queso and Guacamole (made at your table), the house frozen margarita is the absolute best, and my favorite is the Crema Ligera Poblana soup--absolutely amazing. Please say hi to Ruth and Luis--they're the best. I'm currently living in Colorado, which is also absolutely amazing, and praise God we now have Whataburger here in Colorado--but I miss Texas.

15:31 What Mark was talking about when he'd mentioned how tight they make the lanes whenever they're doing road construction, he's not exaggerating about that. I can personally vouch for this from first-hand experience, as I'd actually drove in Texas at night when I'd took my nephew back to Fort Cavazos after his leave for for Christmas was up. It was so tight that it was a rather claustrophobic feeling for me to drive through this

As a Texan living in the DFW (Dallas Fort Worth) metroplex I have a few additions. The distance from Galveston to Dallas is 290 miles (466 Kilometers). There and back is a day trip for Texans. It is common for Texans to drive considerably above the speed limit. Some highways in Texas (especially in West Texas) have an 85 mph (136 kph) speed limit because of the vast distances we have to cover. Driving from the most eastern border in Texas to the most western border takes 12 hours. The same is true for driving from the most southern tip to the most northern tip. The current price of fuel in Texas is around $2.80 per gallon (about $0.74 per liter). Texas heat can commonly get to 105 F (40 C) and sometime hotter. The tornado damage in the "Young Sheldon" episode you referenced was realistic for the house and the car. Come soon and enjoy!

As a San Antonian I have to say that as it is literally deep in the heart of TEXAS, driving from here just to the state line is HUNDREDS of miles in any direction! Also about San Antonio, downtown. The 3 must do’s are the Alamo (of course), the world famous Riverwalk and the Tower of the Americas which Nobody ever talks about! It’s the tallest thing in the city and hands down the best city view. There’s a bar, a slowly rotating restaurant and 360 degree open air observation deck that is just awesome. The glass elevator ride up is half the fun! I don’t know how many KZfaqrs I’ve recommended it to when I find out they’re coming here. Still unbelievably no takers. Nobody even mentions it, it’s like it’s invisible, which it obviously isn’t! You can’t miss it. No channels have even said “what’s that?” I strongly recommend going up there it’s awesome and you’ll be glad you did. Take it from a local, we even tend to forget how cool it is because we’ve grown up with it. Just pick a good weather day or night with clear skies and you’ll never forget it! It’s really spectacular. Invisible unbelievable! 😆 Ha Ha!

As a south Texan, I can tell you that you would fit right in! Right attitude! Or, as we might say, "Winner, Winner, chicken dinner!" Referring to doing well at something, and then the reward. Longhorns are, overall, very gentle, although huge. But, they are careful of which 'Horns they bring into town, as you can imagine the damage that just ONE of these guys could do, not to mention a while bunch of them. Texas takes care of their own, but, of course, we do have the assorted bunch of people, moving away from their State after screwing it up, and bringing their loser ways and beliefs with them to Texas. We have to put up with them a bit. But, they are NOT "Texas". Texas is a state of mind, not about where you're from, but what values you hold. Again, you'd fit right in!

@ 0.25 based on the equipment hanging underneath, I think you'll find those Longhorns are steers, not cows. You'd get a bit of a shock if you tried to milk them.

Some places in the United States do have graffiti and trash around, but some states/cities have a culture of respect for the place you live in. You wouldn’t throw trash on the floor inside your own home, why would you do it in your own city?

Yep, Texans drive fast... However, they usually drive well, too. I've been in other places where people drive slower, but much more dangerously.

You must have breakfast tacos. There are a million places to get good breakfast tacos and the best usually mom and pop places. Ask the locals where to get breakfast tacos. Try the nopales and egg, don't let the term cactus put you off. You need to take your daughter to a guest ranch. She needs to have a real trail ride. There are some really great places in the Hill Country, that have half day and single day packages. As for the driving, there are unwritten rules. You can figure them out. People do drive very fast, too fast really. The interstates in the cities can be pretty hairy.

Before you have a breakfast taco, you have to have biscuits and gravy! Also I think trying the country/chicken fried steak is a must. You might learn that with some meals, there’s enough for two people to eat. A good way to save money. Hubby and I learned that a long time ago. As long as you like and agree on sharing one meal. But whatever you end up doing, I bet you will enjoy yourselves. Can’t wait till y’all get to come!!

There are ranchers here in Montana that still keep the longhorns. It's more of a historical thing for them than for any other purpose. In most of the western states the speed limit is 80 mph on the interstate highways. In Montana most of the two lane roads are 70 mph.

I’m going to Texas for the first time for a concert in April in Austin and then my fiancé’s parents are also driving down from Colorado for the eclipse. I absolutely adore road trips and I’d go with my parents on one at least twice a year. My fiancé is from Texas and has told me about all the new things I’m gonna see. I’ll be there for just over a week so if anyone has any suggestions (we’re willing to drive a few hours) please let me know! Outside of Austin it looks like we may be driving tanks near Uvalde and going to the National Video Game Museum in Frisco on the way back! 😊

If your in the Austin area check out 6th street, try and at least go into the capital building to see the dome or if you can take a tour of the building and check out Lake Travis too.

Long horns aren’t only in Texas in the late nineties one of the places I was working a part time job as a Paramedic in Dixie County Florida and there was a cattle ranch next to one of the ambulance stations and they would come right up to the fence and we would feed them apples and oranges and pet them

Don't live there but have been through Texas a couple of times. If you go and get the chance try The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo. Been a long time since I was there but it was great. If you're really, really hungry they have what's called the 72oz steak challenge. Eat the whole meal in an hour or less and it's free. ;O) I knew a guy that did it, 3 times. One of the biggest slabs of beef you'll ever see that ain't still on the hoof.
