As memorable as the shot was, it would have never happened without that incredible pass from Grant Hill. I got to tell Mr. Hill that at this year's regional in my hometown in Greenville, SC

@@wayneedward7391 Ok you didnt see Pistol Pete Maravich in 3 years of college avg 44 points per game with no 3-point line. lol. He still holds the all time points record even only playing 3 years. If there was a 3-pt line, shot charts by asst coach confirm he would have had a 58 ppg average with the line. I gotta go with Pete on greatest player in college history hands down..but Laettner is certainly up there.

The presence of mind to take a time out after the shot of Sean woods went in, and the pass of grant hill to laetner and the composure to take the shot for the game winning basket...it really was worth watching...

The 1992 and 1998 regional final games between Duke and UK are easily two of the best games in NCAAT history. 1992 had the defending champions Duke #1 v the Kentucky Mountain boys who stuck out probation. Game goes to OT, Woods hits bank shot over Lattener with but 2 tics left. Then the shot and Duke goes on to win it all back to back. Cawood Ledfords last radio called game for UK as well. 1998 Featured two great teams with Duke opening up huge leads over UK in the 1st half and the 2nd leading the Cats by 17 with under 10 minutes left. Then the epic UK rally with big three pointer after hig three pointer. UK goes on to win by 2 and then goes on to win the National Title with native Kentuckians Adgett and Mills leading the way.

I've posted this a few times. I wasn't a basketball fan; I never knew about "the shot"! I lived in Great Falls, Virginia, a few doors from Laettner. He had a lovely wife and two daughters and would take walks up our 50-yard street. We had five long-haired, adorable wiener dogs. He would come over often, the nicest guy I ever met. I just found out he was famous for these videos. Some people aren't into basketball, but after seeing this, holy shit! What a great feeling.

I was a kid watching the game in the living room with my family. Shot goes in everybody’s screaming. I run out the back door in my room up the hill to the Duke Dorms on Broad Street. Help the college kids celebrate by throwing toilet paper into the trees. Been a Duke fan every since 💙

On that 1992 day, I was working as a sportswriter covering the Indiana high school state title game in the Hoosierdome. The other staffer I was working with was two minutes late getting courtside, telling me he had to stay late in press room because the Kentucky-Duke regional title game had the most profound ending. I didn't believe him -- until the next day when I saw the replays of the ending. I forgave him.

What I remember most about that game was the announcers before the game not giving Kentucky a snowball's chance in Hell against Duke. Duke was defending national champion Kentucky was coming off probation started a bunch of scrubs basically. Had one future star Jamal Mashburn but he was just a freshman I believe. The heart those Kentucky kids showed was simply unbelievable. The heart both teams showed for that matter. Truly the greatest college basketball game I've ever witnessed. It was like a heavyweight fight neither team would give an inch. U just knew the team that had the ball last was going to win. I'll never forget Thomas Hill of Duke sobbing after Laettner hit that shot he could not believe what he had just witnessed. The emotion of that game was off the charts. People still talk about that game where were u when Laettner hit that shot against Kentucky. I also remember Coach K being very gracious even wanting to go on Kentucky radio to help console UK fans after such a heartbreaking loss a classy move by a classy guy.

The moment Laettner hit that shot, I was a college senior watching the game with my girlfriend (who I married the next year, and still married) at her parents' house. Being a Duke fan, this whole game was filled with the tension befitting an all-time classic contest. As the ball went through the basket, I jumped up and repeatedly yelled "HE MADE THE SHOT! HE MADE THE SHOT!". This woke up my almost 2-year-old neice who started crying, oops! I then turned to my girlfriend and said, "They will be talking about this game for the next 20 YEARS!" She didn't believe that at all, but I was right!

Awesome. My wife and I were watching in Northwest Indiana (yes Im a Duke fan even after attending IU lol). My cousin who lived in apartment upstairs was way out in back of building working on his truck and he hear the screams and yelling a block away and came knocking asking if we were ok. lol Pretty sure the immediate neighborhood area heard our response. These moments we witness. Up til that moment, my biggest was Kirk Gibson's homer in the 88 series. Im not a dodger fan at all being a Giants fan, but you cannot go thru that at bat as a baseball fan and not celebrate the improbability of that event. The odds of that happening are astronomical. Best closer in the game vs a guy that cant even walk without pain in both legs. e We will never forget them.

For some unknown reason last night I was laying in bed (couldn't sleep) and I randomly started thinking of that last-second play by Duke to beat Kentucky and as I always do I thought to myself, "that is STILL after all these years the best college basketball game I've ever seen" (I'm in my late 50's now). Then I come onto KZfaq today and out of the blue, the KZfaq algorithm feeds me clips of that play!

I remember very well Christian Laettner shouldn't have even been in the game, after stomping the UK PLAYER Intentionally in the chest while laying on the court. Right is right and wrong is wrong and anyone who would do something like that should have been thrown out of the game. I don't care who you are or who you play for. I am a long time fan of Kentucky wildcats going all the way back to Dan Isle days. I still bleed blue after all these years 🏀
