Gran Turismo 2 gameplay 4K 60FPS in Duckstation emulator

Gran Turismo 2 was one of the best racing games of the era. One of the best PS1 games. One of the best games ever. It's time to take it for a spin and buff up the graphic as much as it can go. I'm quite pleased. Now the game looks like it looked in my mind while I was playing it 22 years ago.
This is what you get when you try to push Duckstation capabilities to the max: 8MB RAM dev console, overclocking the console rate, upscale to 4K, using all the geometry correction without causing much trouble, fixing texture warping, using widescreen 2.0 and 60 FPS and also improving drawing distance as well as keeping level of details on other cars.The rest is just the limitation of the way the source code of the game was written.
If Audio RAM could be bigger, it would be possible to add real car sounds even to opponent cars. But it is what it is.
Come to think of it, GT2 now looks like GT1 Hi Fi mode (high resolution mode, 45 FPS etc etc) or maybe it looks like proto PS2 title. Anyone remembers GT2000?

this Duckstation emulator makes every classic game so much better love it!

Yeah, it has built in cheat manager system that acts like a gameshark or action replay, but it can contain things like widescreen hack, fov settings and so on. So you can improve visuals even further if the game allows. But not every game has those "cheats".

Thanks for the video. It seems you are the only streamer streaming the GT2 ntsc-j version. For the last few weeks I have been trying to setup the Duckstation to cope with the j version GT2 but without success. It just unable to load the game successfully. I tried the config you mention on the description but still no use. Would you explain what are the key points to setup the emulator so that I am able to play this lovely game? Thanks.

man that looks good, you can tell its PS1 Graphics but dang that looks great.. shame my pc has issues when trying to make the games look this good.

the cheat manager does not work correctly for me on this emulator. In most cases, the game hangs. In connection with what it can be interestingly connected? Epsxe emulator work great.

@@Leguiza1307 I was thinking about making a new video about it. I downloaded Duckstation a long ago so I need to do it again remember the process. Also, I'm thinking about making a video about setting it up for GT2 - I can make it run even smoother than on this video after a bit of fiddling with cheats

why the opponent cars arent cubes in ur video ? is that kind of draw distance ? Could u tell me what setting should i enable because my opponents are literally cube why I far like 8 m from them

Check out cookieplmonster.github.io and you will find GT2 codes. You need to put them into Cheat Manager in Duckstation. There is Full detail AI cars cheat and yoi need to enamble 8mb ram (Dev console). Because standard PS1 ram cannot handle that much details

@@minheinhtut7115 awesome. You can increase distance now, add 60fps and you have something that almost looks like GT2000 :D

@@minheinhtut7115 yes there is. On the same website. Also, you have a widescreen hack so it can look better on 16:9 aspect ratio

I don't know. I know it should be possible on Series S/X if you pay one time price of 19$ so you can enter dev console (for installing homebrew software). Maybe it is possible

Skyline Silhouette Formula DR30, you can get it only as a prize car only in Grand Touring Car Trophy event on Midfield Raceway

Doesn't look 60fps at all, try out the 60fps cheat code.

You can see the counter in the upper right corner. Its 60fps but I didn't use the cheat code to make it smoother. So yeah, it doesn't look that good. I might try to do it again. Thanks for the comment!

@@kristijan893 slightly unrelated but I would like to add that the 60 FPS cheat code breaks rally events, I think.

@@kristijan893 yeah it's a shame, I also play with the cheat code to make the game look better. you can see in the Pikes Peak race in this video that the AI acts up and gets stuck at the start. Had to turn off the code so I could enjoy the rally races again.

It’s not 60, it’s 25 fps since it’s the PAL version
