It’s really quite eye opening how many people are buying full wheel set-up’s for GT7 and PSVR2. Not just hardcore sim racers, but the wider VR community.

I absolutely LOVE this game. For the first time in many years I wake up in the morning excited about playing a game... I can't remember the last time this happened. It just makes me happy. I can drift, I can race all sorts of racing series, I can do rally, I can paint cars, I can collect cars.. Tune them.. It's just an overall killer package. I would easily recommend ANY GT or racing fan to get a PSVR2 specifically for this game. For me, it's GT7 made the cost of entry worth it. So worth it in fact that I'm getting a damn 1000 dollar wheel... Almost twice the cost of the VR headset itself. I'm someone who used to race a LOT back in the day, but after VR it all ended because PCVR is just too damn janky to get running right. Now I can plop a PSVR2 on my head and I'm ready to go! That means I've raced more since the launch of PSVR2 than I have combined over the last 8 years or so.. Ease of use can not be overstated as a selling point. It's the difference between letting something sit and collect dust, and actively using it often. My tendons are inflamed from too much driving, and all I'm thinking about is driving more.. But I can't.. So I'm watching other people drive... This is MMORPG levels of obsession for me.

GT7 is pretty vast and seeing various channels here on yt shows people play this game in completely different ways. There are some that do livery editing, some only drift in lobbies, photo mode, and of course many that do the single player campaign and collect cars. Then there is a segment that ignores all of these and solely do sport mode. Some the casual racer, some super sweaty that do gtws all the way up to FIA and Olympic certified esports. It's shaping up to be the best in the franchise, I've already racked up 600+ hours since day 1 on this thing.

A friend of mine kept trying to convince me to get GT7 and when I saw it on sale for $40 plus a $5 coupon I decided to try it. I started playing it with the controller to try to learn the basics and I have to admit I was having a great time. After I felt comfortable with the controls I decided to play it in VR mode and holy crap, instantly became addicted. This game is so fun in VR. Nice review Bryan, it’s nice to hear a review from a “gamer” rather than a sim racer, and for gamers to understand, that while turning all the assists off adds to the immersion of “sim racing” that is ok to have the game at a level that remains fun to play For the ultimate experience I would try hud less, if only for a lap or two, it’s a fantastic experience I now have a dedicated rig setup with a second ps5 and a Fanatec steering wheel, after starting with a G29 like yourself attached to a wheel stand pro and a gaming chair, it’s a rabbit hole haha Keep up the great work and hope to see you on track sometime 😻

The big difference in VR is that you feel like it is YOUR BODY in the game world It is TOTALLY different compared to looking at a flat screen TV and using a controller to "tell the car on screen" where to go, in a third person view. THIS is why i love VR so much. I am also not mad about racing games - but for this i had to get the wheel and damn is it so much fun!!

great video! liked and subscribed. and it's good that you made sure that all the videos in VR are actually the social screen and not what the player actually sees inside the VR helmet, where the resolution drops severely and the HDR, if present, barely registers at all. Also, there's a light film grain present in every frame, and even with optimal VR settings, some mirror issues, which I think might be unavoidable. Still, I bought the PSVR2 specifically for GT7, and it's transformative. I actually love this game now. It gets frustrating hard after finishing the Café menus, but I'm still at it.

I already had a racing wheel, I'm not the biggest racing sim enthusiast but I got it for racing games as a whole. There's nothing better than a wheel and adding VR to it is the best possible experience. It's also the best experience you can have on PlayStation. I love the VR showroom, being able to sit in a virtual car I could never afford and see the attention to detail is amazing. I love cars, even cars I can't afford.

Great Review Bryan! Yeah, playing this with a wheel just adds so much more to the immersion (I'm just using my old Thrustmaster T150 FFB Wheel). The DualSense does a good job as well though for those that can't afford a wheel.....yet. My favorite thing to do in GT7 is a "one make" race with the F1-1500T Formula Race car! Zipping along a track in an open-cockpit Formula 1 race car against other F1 cars is mind-blowingly fun!

The original Gran Turismo series on PS2 legit taught me how to drive a car. I could go out and apply the physics concepts and the car would behave exactly as expected based on my experience from the game. I would find the apex of curves, turn in, and down shift while coming out of the turn to turn up the torque and grip the road. I was a good driver in the game and as a result handled a real car the same way without any accidents. The GT Sim was that realistic.
@belgianbushrc7934
@belgianbushrc7934 Жыл бұрын
Sorry guy, love the sentiment but downshifting when coming out of a turn is a very bad idea! Downshift while braking for the corner (using engine braking and ideally heel and toeing), apply throttle when coming out of the corner. Turning in for the apex while in too high of a gear will severely take away control of the car.😬🫶

I've loved and played GT since it first came out and have been using a wheel ever since late 2001. I upgraded both my wheel and rig from the G29 to a direct drive and a home made rig to one from GT Omega. There aren't many games as immersive as Gran Turismo and PSVR2 has taken it to a whole new level. Your review of the game was one of the simplest yet most inclusive looks at GT7 I've seen. I'm sure your youthful enthusiasm and delight with your experience just made PD and Sony, and maybe a few peripheral companies a great deal of money

Very well done review and I appreciate how you delved into why you weren't really a fan of GT before and why you are now. Thanks for mentioning the internet requirement even for single player because that is a real problem for me. Games really need to stop pulling this crap. I only caught a glimpse of this one seat, I'll have to find the vid again, but the seat was on a gimble and when you hit the brake it would lean you forward and I think it would also lean back when you hit the gas. I'm sure it's stupid expensive, but using that with GTVR has got to be the most immersive at home entertainment experience available.

You would be surprised how easy shifting becomes with the setup you have (steering wheel/pedals + VR). I would advise you to immediately start with manual (paddles) shifting. I had the same when I started Project Cars 2. I was worried about the shifting, but it became natural quite quickly and actually more enjoyable. Part of the challenge and fun of sim-racing is the shifting. Btw, with your current new setup, I would try Dirt Rally VR and DriveClub VR again. Such a thrill! I also enjoy the thrill of arcade-racing. And I love VR, hence I'm developing an arcade racer in VR. I want to be able to race in ways not possible in real-life.

I have a bit of motion sickness in other games like horizon but this one is a lot better as long as you act like you would in a real car and focus on what is ahead. Being able to look in the mirrors naturally and judge the distance to other cars is game changing.

I'm glad you mentioned the online only aspect of this as a negative. There is no way I'd have bothered with this game at all if the PSVR2 version didn't exist. The game was designed specifically for insidious industry practices also, as the whole collecting cars aspects that I loved about GT growing up has been made redundant in the way the campaign basically railroads you into picking up cars whether you like it or not, and the ticketing system is by no means a lottery the way it pretends to be either. It usually always gives you the lowest prize available, which is no coincidence. Despite these things, the VR implementation for this game literally redeems it. It still doesn't excuse it, but the experience you get is so transformative, that I can't help but give it a bye ball and look at it for one of the most amazing gaming experiences I've ever had. This is more or less what the creator of Gran Turismo had in mind probably since the original game, and it shows. Future games just simply can't be made without VR. It's as simple as that.

Like it was so shocking that I am seriously thinking about selling my Pulse on the fb marketplace today because it was that dramatic. I could hear little bumps on the road, the sound of my tires going over one of the edge ramps, cars as I passed them, etc was sooooooo much better. I am loving watching everyone's excitement for Racing, this was me in 2017 with my PSVR 1 when GT Sport was VR compatible, I know it was only arcade, but I played and I played it. GT Sport and Driveclub had me hooked immediately. Looking at cars in Driveclub before you got in. I Went out and bought a Steering wheel and proper stand to feel part of the game. Im so happy they went that extra mile to get players like Bryan into it, by full giving the full game in VR, and showing how stupidly fun and addictive it can be. Gran turismo is a grind, always has being. But it can grab you and It will be so much fun. I have yet to try the PSVR2 and GT7 but I'm seriously looking forward to it.

I felt exactly the same way as you. I could never get into sim racing because I sucked at taking corners correctly and especially using the breaks correctly. and I just generally wasn't into the genre, I have tried to get into VR racing games before on PCVR. I have always played arcade racers that used brake assistance. But this game teaches you how to race. For the first time ever in a racing game I turned off the brake assistance. I feel like I'm actually learning how to race in this game. And VR makes it just that much better. This game is absolutely amazing for beginners and veterans. I t made really start to like the genre more and has become one of my favorite games.

Welp thats it.... finally ordered a PS5 and it was this video that finally made me plunge for it... with the ultimate goal of PSVR2 of course. Credit card debt is a little higher than I would like so going to wait a few months to pay it down before I drop the PSVR2 on it. I think it will all be worth it when I finally sit down and play this... been dreaming of playing a proper racing game (sim or not) in VR since Drive Club VR on PSVR1. I have PCVR via Quest Link for a ton of racing games, but it really seems like GT7 will be the way to go since this headset has really set the bar much higher. Thanks again Brian for another excellent review, especially for us casual gamers that need that honest laid back opinion as not all of us care about being the best, we just want to enjoy the ride.

You have to get psvr2 now. Can you throw that on your card to my friend that's what I did..lol. Gt7 is worth it alone. I tried playing in 2d on my oled today and It sucked. I can't go back to 2d racing. Being in all those cars and racing them is simply awesome. My daughters boyfriend was over last weekend and tried it out. I let him check out a car in vr lobby and it blew his mind. You can spend hours just looking at them inside and out. Lights work, turn signals.

I'm lovin it with the assists off. Takes a while to get the hang of it, but it's so cool when you start to have a better understanding of the car's behaviour to avoid spinning, suddenly you'll start to use that in your advantage.

I will say after playing dozens of hours with no assists, it's more fun if you turn on abs and you'll be way better.

First of all once again your reviews are always among the most thought out, and if I didn’t know what gt7 was I’d have a damn good idea of what to expect after watching this. Now that well deserved flattery aside : lmfao @ all the dirty racing 😂

Seriously, best review of this game on KZfaq period. Going through the different options and progression system was very helpful and really helpful and intuitive. You’re the best and Sony better recognise this in the future. I’m buying this game because of this review.

My singular gripe is, while it's essentially identical design-wise to Gran Turismo Sport (outside of the new "VR replay" mode), they also left out the same missing in-race data exclusive to VR mode in both games. I kinda get it; it's like releasing "Star Wars" on VHS then later releasing it on Blu-Ray with a CG Jabba the Hut scene, but keeping in the bloopers like the storm trooper hitting his head. Still, for now, our little racing league requires at least one person be out of VR mode to collect the missing data for scoring, not to mention there being no effective way to determine when/where other players are including for pit stops, tire choice, et al., & again, identically to GT Sport VR. I oddly miss being able to see cars in showcase mode in a scene with dedicated lighting (they're all "in-world" scenes now, with the default one oddly being underground & next to an escalator) & I *wish* the haptics in VR were for more than just crashes (by nature eventually you'll almost never crash), but I admit, I do sincerely love that GT7 has gotten people to experience GT in VR after most people missed it in the last few years on PSVR1. Also, I loved this review. I got into this channel because of PSVR1 (big time) & getting back into it again for PSVR2 has been a legit joy. Thanks for what you do, sincerely.

For more realistic "immersion" - first thing i recommend is getting rid of things that FLOAT on the road - i.e. those yellow "location" markers at the corners - and the floating indicators over the cars (that indicate what place they are in).... i dont mind the things on the road, brake red, or yellow stripe - as they just look like road paint mostly...!

Great review. Not bring a fan of sim racers, it is quite amazing that I'm so hooked on this. Feels sooo good in VR. You picked out one of the OMG moments for sure... headlights illuminating your cat from behind. Wow. And I'm so surprised how well the dualsense motion controls work for driving. So anyone who can't afford or doesn't have space for a rig, be assured this game feels plenty immersive with just the normal controller if u use tilt instead of the thunbstick

It's a valid point and one that needs to be stressed. Yes, this game is awesome with a wheel, pedals, and a full rig ... but people really should be reassured that it's STILL AWESOME in VR if you don't have such gear. The feedback from the DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers really is exceptionally good, and the game is surprisingly immersive played this way.

Omg I’ve had Gt7 since launch and played it once and was “meh” and never picked it up again. Just got VR2 and tried it and was blown away. Then my mind said how about we try the G923 wheel and was amazed. Now the rig arrives tomorrow for a full cockpit experience! This is one expensive game but an experience like no other. A wheel makes this a showstopper. Great review.

DAMN IT!!! As gorgeous and fun as this game looks, I was still on the fence because I don't want to play it without a wheel. As I watched this review (I've been waiting for it) I decided to look up the specs and price of the G-29 until you said "persistent online connection". I preordered Starlink almost 2 years ago. Still no availibility in Tennessee. Yes, their are people who live in the middle of nowhere in the US. Even if I had internet service, I'm not diggin' that vibe.😒 Great review thou.👌
