I guess I have to address this. I know my Submariner isn't a Sea Dweller.... I just wanted to add extra visuals but I was in no way trying to pretend it was a Sea Dweller. 😶

Not saying you tried to pretend, but your title and voice over don't address this fact at all. And to any watch enthusiasts, they can tell the difference. you don't even show pictures of an SD. It's a little misleading, even if you don't mean it to be. You're putting content out there about watches, which is great. We need more of it. But we need it to be accurate in my opinion.

@@RichDunn51 One could argue it was an attempt at being misleading by omission, stock photos could have been taken with required permission from elsewhere just as easily, though I guess you have to give the benefit of the doubt. Couple of issues I have with the new 5 days GS Diver. First, the position of the power reserve, it's just idiotic. The person who decided to sign that off deserves the sack. Btw, I like the power reserve of the 3 day Spring Drives. Second, 4 o' clock date windows are fine on a chronograph when space is limited, but not on a big diver with plenty of space. And don't get me started with the 4 o' clock crown position. I really want to get a GS Diver but they also screw the design up, for me at least to pull the trigger And while I agree GS finishing is amazing, I've owned a few, I would check the quality of their divers, especially the dial and indexes, because sometimes it's not up to the level of their heritage models.
@bbrebozo64173 жыл бұрын
One thing I’ve observed with GS spring drive is how much more efficient their self-winding is vs other brands. Maybe it’s because their movement is so much more energy efficient than that of escapement wheels that they don’t need a massive spring to get multiple days of power. The 5 days in this one takes them into territory occupied by higher end brands like Blancpain, JLC, IWC.

I don’t own a Grand Seiko but would love to have one one day. I’d be more partial to a spring drive movement but I really wish they wouldn’t keep using power reserve indicators, especially on automatic movements. I just think it’s such a redundant complication and ruins the symmetry. I have seen a special edition that was a manual wind spring drive movement and the power reserve was on the case back. It was a perfect execution and I wish they would do that more going forward.
@jouwenlee78293 жыл бұрын
Power reserve indicator on case back is cool. Perhaps the reason of the disproportion power reserve indicator on dial is this is a tool watch, for serious diving? The diver needs to know the watch has sufficient juice before going under water?

The GS here is an unmistakably beautiful watch. But it's also nearly 4mm larger and has only 600m water resistance. The Sea Dweller is a lot smaller, yet it provides more than twice the water resistance at 1220m. As far as specs go, I would say the Sea Dweller is by far the best engineered of the two. Possibly the GS has a prettier face, but it is also a limited edition, so the chances of getting one are very slim. Sorry, I don't get the comparison. Also, the Rolex you show in the video is a Submariner, not a Sea Dweller. Even at that, the Sub is a better dive watch considering it is way smaller and way thinner.

Specs are cool - and here the GS is clearly superior. But aesthetically, the GS is taking alot of the Rolex styling cues and takes so much inspiration from the sub/SD design. Lets not get into the Zaytona debate. If you want a seadweller, dont settle for a seadweller alternative - even though on paper it may be better. You'll end up blowing some cash, and selling it at a loss to start back at square one. The heart wants what it wants, and if the heart wants a Rolex, I wouldn't settle for a GS, even though it may be superior. My 2 cents. Great vid man.

Statistically, majority of Seadweller / Submariner owners can't swim. If they can and they do a bit of recreational diving from time to time, they haven't ever dived deeper than 30 metres. In fact, very few deep sea divers, dived below 100 metres without using Jim suit, or it's latest equivalent. Hence if you take that 1000+ metres laboratory tested rating off and go for diving watch, that is rated at 10 bar / 100 metres .... there are plenty of watches, from at least 20 Swiss makers, that are just as well made, yet cost quarter of the money, that Grand Seiko costs. Longines Legend Diver is just one example. If the accuracy and ant-imagnetism is of prime importance? You can't do better than Omega, when it comes to luxury diving watches.

The SLGA001 is a limited edition watch of 700 with a higher price tag than both Rolex Sea-Dweller and Subarminer at retail and even on the Grey Market... yet the dive rating is not as good, the movement is not as good (considering the 2020 Subs update) and the heritage is not as strong. You're obviously passionate and knowledgeable, and I mean no offence, but the Rolex SeaDweller eclipses this GS in every shape, function and form. You are also showing a Submariner in the comparison, unsure if this is an oversight or just confusion, but makes for a bizarre review. Comparing paper specs of a watch to holding one in the hand is equally fruitless; the only thing this beats the SD in is current attainability to the general public. In arguing against the large depth resistance of the SD (your main point) you also emphasise the pointlessness of the GS diver also. There is a reason all deep sea commercial and compression divers aquire the SeaDweller. This is not to knock you, but when you are able to hold both in the hand, the gulf in quality is obvious. Love GS, especially the one with the snowflake dial, which will be my next purchase, I'd advise to seek that for its versatility over this one. The Omega Planet Ocean has this GS beaten hands down for aesthetics, versatility and equally as attainable. Good luck with your collecting / reviewing journey and enjoy the ones you wear in good health
