Think i can see the flip coming soon.....in my opinion you chose a very strange model to go into GS with....the models that pop and kick Rolex would be the explorer esc models with fantastic coloured dials incredible finishing...like the snowflake or the blue 20th anniversary blue dial and rotor and the peacock...these are the ones to compare against Rolex....the divers are underwhelming at best and a strange choice in my opinion....good video though 😁😁

Not a fan of grand seiko divers. Their snowflake and some of the gmts are pretty awesome though.

Grand Seiko is the brand for me, but never interested in the diver. Generic looking, fat ugly clasp, and I agree with Marc something about the dial, plain and too much open space. Also 44mm is too big.

I also currently own the SBGA229 after owning several Rolexes. Completely agree with your initial thoughts but despite its short comings, I love it. I wear it more than any other watch in the collection.

I love that watch! My MM300 will have to do for now though. The Marinemaster 300 has the same clasp without the GS markings. The on the fly adjustment is worth having a slightly thicker clasp.

I've dropped my watch 3 times because of screwed links. After this happening twice I 'loctited' it (222) and it happened again. Not a fan of screws.

Congratulations on your new watch! I wish I had the balls to pull the trigger on a GS! LOL I enjoy my ZARATSU POLISHING on my SBDC061. It's holding up, although it gets little wrist time. My most hated part of every Seiko I've owned was the stamped clasp... Disappointing that the GS has the same "issue". Love the dive extension though

LOL, I can tell you only bought this watch so you could make video reviews of it to widen out your channel's scope. As a plus you can then defend Rolex even more by saying you've given these other brands a fair shake and have proven Rolex is superior. Do you have a 30-day return grace period with the location you bought it from?

I was traveling when a screw closest to the flip-lock on my Submariner somehow worked itself partially open just enough that it blocked the flip-lock from unlatching all the way so I could take off the watch. The watch was literally “locked” on my wrist until I could find an eye-glass place in town and have the sales associate lend me an eyeglass screwdriver to screw it back in, so that I could take the damn watch off. I think GS and Patek know what they’re doing when they opted for friction pins; never had one come loose.

I think this is such a cool addition to your collection. A “Seiko” with some cool horological prowess, better than any Turtle or Monster, etc. It seems like a solid choice for an under the radar watch.

I have a microfiber cloth at my desk and in my car to clean smudges and fingerprints off my watch, they're used regularly.

It's a dive / tool watch. The large / empty dial helps you read better when you are 100ft below looking at the watch to keep track of dive time through your diving gogles, in dim light, and air bubles floating around in front your your eyes.

Late to the party on this video. The GS Diver has been my grail for a long time. One day I may be able to afford one. I am definitely a heart guy when it comes to watches, I have a small collection and would never sell any of them. Love your channel Marc, you don't take things too seriously and give a good honest opinion.

IMO, friction pins are easier to handle than screw pins- less likely to scratch the watch if you know how to do it properly.

I was looking at that exact watch at that store trying to decide between the Seamaster 300. I obviously got the Seamaster. Obviously my opinion but I would put the GS Seamaster above Rolex only because there so many personal preferences I just don’t like on the Rolex sub.

I’ve heard that the tapered lugs add to the good fitting of this watch. I think I would have chosen a Hi-Beat GS diver. The Spring Drive dress watches are more my thing. Great dials and all round finishing from Grand Seiko these days.

I thought that Zaratsu polishing used a solid stone wheel to polish the surface instead of a cloth wheel with compound.

Many things are a matter of happits, but when you see the watch has gained or lost max. (I think) 10 secound in 1 mounth and you will know it will keep that accurecey for 6 - 10 years proberly, then you will be very please. You may only have to adjust time doing summer and winter time. And you will proberly like that powerreserve a lot.

Thank you for giving this watch a fair shake, Marc. If GS would refine the clasp, improve the bezel, clean up some of the proportions and slim the watch down, then this diver would be seeing my wrist. I still prefer the Submariner, but this watch has a lot going for it. The Nautilus uses friction pins, by the way.

I got the same impression by handling the GS SD Diver and a bunch of other GS. Nice watches but not quite Rolex nice. At those prices they should be as good as a Rolex or even better.

Japanese watchmaking is quirky in how much attention to detail and craftsmanship they put into certain areas of their watches but almost completely overlook some things like bracelet, clasps, crystals and such where the Swiss offer a certain all inclusive polished overall package. I like GS but I take a lot of stock in things that the Swiss usually nail.

Not GS nor Rolex fanboy here, but it does seem awfully much in this video that Rolex guy is comparing Rolex and GS and picking "the best" , best being "most similar to rolex". I try to look at these two watches from neutral viewpoint : GS here is most likely Spring Drive, which means movement is very robust and very accurate. Rolex is traditional traditional swiss escapement movement. So if accuracy and robustness are most important for you, I would advice to go with GS. Word "quality" can mean different things for different people, Marc speaks about quality, and seems his quality is more in the sense of what he is used to. Extremely interesting and nice video!

Marc, I like your style. You are a smooth talker, with lots and lots of irony, humour and at the same time your words are on point. Starchie Phuckery, as he is called nowadays, is rapidly going downhill. Although I kind of like the man. He is kind of sleazy, openly admitting he needs the Google-Ads revenue, and pumping out video's , getting sloppy and repetitive, more every day. Can't believe you endorsed him. But anyway, he's got some charisma. And also you got charisma. You were right: don't buy a Grand Seiko, just because it's "cheaper", if, what you really wanted was a ROLEX. Another point: I prefer this titanium. Once you experiences titanium at your wrist, you don't want stainless steel anymore. Because it is lighter, it feels less cold, and feels smoother, like silk. I don't like this clunky watches. Of course the only thing ROLEX is better, is because they retain their value, for re-sell. That's all. They are really overpriced. If a NooB factory can produce an almost perfect replica V9, for about 550 dollars, it only lacks high quality printing, engraving and maybe seals, and maybe durability, how can there be a price difference of about 10.000 dollars? Thats just my thoughts. I own 3 vintage Tudor watches, they look exactly like the Rolex datejust, the cyclops, the engraving, Oyster bracelet and clasp. So, cheers from Holland from Simon.My other "friends"are Austin Daniels, and sadly not Archie, you have to pay him to be a friend. LOL. Under his vids, just ( young) kids trololing, always talking about ladyboys, carpet beetles and being fat. This is not about horologery anymore.

I can't get past the holes case and cheaply stamped clasp. Feels "tinny" to me. I also think they should have rebranded it. Only serviceable in Japan. Not for me.

As with most things, pin and collar bracelets are easy to work on with the right tools. Pin pusher tool £1.99 on eBay and a small pair of pliers. You will be very surprised how simple it is.

Seiko are very comfortable on the wrist but with the BS polish buzz words and the price raises on their normal Sekio line it speaks Delusions Of Grandeur, stick with the lower end mid range or in a few years people will forget about them, for the GS price it would be Rolex every time for me.

I can’t believe you had to pay to size the bracelet on a watch. We never pay in the UK even outside warranty. Good watch retailers always size for free.

The dealer you bought from should size for free. But asking your Rolex guy to size your Grand Seiko might or might not be free. I've had a mix. My Rolex AD charged me to size a Rado, but after I bought a watch from him he did my next watch (bought elsewhere) for free. It's all about relationship. He knows I'm a real customer who has bought and will buy from him, not someone buying online to save a penny then expecting the local AD to provide service for free.

I have mine on a green Zulu strap. Too heavy otherwise. Wait till you check the accuracy. Mine doesnt lose a second whereas my Rolex gains 8 seconds a day. Rolex fit and finish is better, but the details in the grand seiko will keep you happy for quite some time, but yes the clasp and bracelet do not compare to rolex. It's all about the movement, dial and finishing

@ray h. sorry if that was confusing. What I mean is that both have pros and cons. The seiko has a very precise movement, the polishing on the case is very nice, and the dial is very legible and nice to look at. A Rolex uses very nice metal, has sharp precise angles, and the bracelet is second to none. I am a nut for precision in the time keeping and I have found grand seiko watches to be extremely precise. I dont have as much experience as Mr. Goldberg with Rolex, but I find their time keeping and legibility to be inferior to grand seiko, which is arguably the point of a watch, but each to his own.

@ray h. yea tell me about it. The truth is is that watch collecting is just an addiction but it is more socially acceptable than other types of addiction. If you look at these guys (including myself) who have KZfaq channels they always get a new watch and never seem to be satisfied. In a way they are just addicts and they are feeding our addiction for KZfaq. A lot of information, but someones gotta say it. Anyway all the best bro

Have some thought on doing a video. You want it to be seen clearly, without wiggling the watch left and right. If you could, do it indoor. That way, there won't be shadows and sunlight disturbing the quality of the video. The audience want to see the watch, details of it. Moving the watch slowly and near to the camera will help the audience to see the true picture of the watch. Good luck on your future videos. And please, don't make any assumptions on the watch until at the end of your video. It helps the audience to stay focus on it.

should've bought the titanium variant at least. Also, there's a distinct difference between Rolex collectors and watch collectors. If you're all about horological innovations, Rolex stands no chance. guys like Marc enjoy the social presence of rolexes and they're not entirely about the horological aspect of a watch or a brand. I mean Rolex isn't number 1. If you ask me to choose between a $50k Rolex or F.P....It's the F.P .....dont even have to think.

6 K for a seiko it really should be off the scale . Get the impression it’s a good diver but certainly not superb so wouldn’t contemplate . Don’t get any sense of occasion with Gs the brand leaves me cold..

Can’t get past how much these grand seiko’s look exactly like their cheaper standard seiko models. You wear a Rolex and there is no cheaper Rolex alternative, so it’s either a Rolex or it’s not, to go cheaper you will need to go Tudor and it’s a different brand, no explanation needed no confusion or assumptions where as with the seiko it could be either Grand or Seiko and most people will assume your Grand Seiko cost £500 and not £5000.

yes that is the only thing that keeps grand Seiko down I agree, there is always a cheaper alternative Seiko model looking just like Grand Seiko. For example SARX055, Sarx035, they look like snowflake type grand seikos. no one will notice the difference after 30 centimeters away. Also SBDC029 the titanium diver replace its hands with this watch and it looks just like the grand seiko diver. By the way I have a grand seiko diver the same one in this video and i like it.

japanwatchconnection , yes homages and fakes are an issue and arguably only the fakes are the real problem as they try to trick where the homages are usually very easy to spot because if they get too close they fall foul of copyrights/patent laws. But that wasn’t my point, Seiko is the only company that undermines its prestige line within its own brand. Also never say never on the fake seiko, I’m sure there will be some at some point if not already.

görkem kıyak, exactly, it would be like Volvo buying Rolls Royce, building a new car with Rolls Royce quality and calling it Grand Volvo, then producing a standard Volvo model that looks exactly the same and selling it at one fifth the cost. What is the point? I am not saying buying a Grand seiko is wrong or that they are bad, indeed the opposite is true, but I think that the DNA between GS and standard Seiko are too close. It seems to me that you are saying that the movement and polishing are what are worth the extra money when you buy one of these over a standard seiko. I do however like the look of SBGE001, the Black gmt with lumed bezel but again would I buy that over a Tudor Pepsi? Probably not, if I had the money and the opportunity to buy rolex steel Pepsi would I buy the seiko instead? Hell no. 😂 and that’s their problem. 👍

@@jasoncousins8689 I bought the SBGE201 over the Tudor BB GMT, which was offered to me at list price by the AD. It's no comparison, really. The Tudor, while having all the traits of a luxury watch, looks, feels and functions "industrial" compared to the SBGE. And the difference in quality doen't fell like just $2000, the GS GMT should be like ten times as expensive as the BB GMT. Compared to the GMT Master II it also looks, feels and functions like a much more expensive watch. I don't know about the SBGA229 and how it compares to a Sub or a Sea Dweller - I have no first hand experience there.
