I met Steele when he visited my Church back in 2005!! Super-Duper nice Guy!!! Fantastic Christian Witness! Jim "The Animal" Myers!😁 Ernie "Grand Wizard" was taken from us way too soon! He could have added so much to the Exploding WWF in the mid to late 80s!!!

In his next run against Backlund, he had turned "full Animal" and was just drooling and growling on camera. But still dangerous. After that, he became goofier during Rock N Wrestling.

And short and sweet and straight-to-the-point not all this garbage they call wrestling now with the lots of Jericho and I can't even remember name of any of these other wrestlers that day and time cuz they're just not rememberable.

@@chrissimpson3554 This was the best era of "wrestling", because it was all done with a sense of humor...with a smile and a wink of the eye. This garbage they call wrestling today takes itself way too seriously; they're all cookie-cutter muscle men with no character. There's nothing fun about it anymore. Who wouldn't prefer to watch the Grand Wizard, Capt. Lou, Jesse the Body, etc.?

@@richardsiciliano7117 yeah Bob Backlund was champion from 1978 to 1983 and Vince took over in 1982 so basically he made him lose shortly after. But Backlund was a transitional world champion in early 90s, winning the belt from Bret Hart and losing it couple of days after to Diesel.

Yes but he was the perfect foil for the heels. Expressing moral outrage and disgust at the malevolent tactics of them all. He was the proverbial apple polisher at school, the Eagle scout, the A student, altar boy, etc. Like the Wiz, he was great at selling the concept and putting fans in the seats and in front of the TV on Saturday mornings.

His style was not meant to psych up the fans, but to promote a stable , humble champion who would defeat his wild and crazy opponents. His style was no different than the normal interviews with athletes from the major sports. Bob Backlund was just a normal athlete in the wild and crazy world of pro wrestling. His blandness contrasted with the crazy guys he would face, and defeat.
