There have been a few videos in which he used power tools. Just rarely seen. And I'd bet you, on many of the jump cuts, the "cut" part was using power tools to rough out shapes. There's a reason the videos of Amu making a lubon chair is only 10-20 minutes of him carving and not the many hours it would actually take and it's not done as a time lapse.

@@caodesignworks2407 *That maybe so.... But like all beginners, you must start at the very basics, to do it all by hand, just like Grandpa Amu did by his teacher and generations before them. I did a furniture making course many a year ago... and we were taught how to do Dovetails..... after we had practiced and figured out, where we all went wrong and improved we went onto make our own cupboard with two drawers to fit inside it, all by hand. Then one day our tutor took us over to the drillpress and showed us something as he drilled with this bit..... yep it was a Dovetail cutter. We looked at him and said how come we are not using that. His answer was, but you must understand how to make a Dovetail by hand to learn the basics and concept of how to join two bits of wood together..... thru out that course none us asked again nor did we use that dovetail cutter bit. I still have that cupboard to this day that I made in the early 1990's with perfect dovetails in the cupboard and in the two drawers. Why because I listened and learned from my tutor. PS: I still also have that wood that I had to practice on... as a reminder of the art of making wood into special items.. that we all use daily.*
