I am, like yourself, not a young man anymore. The difference between you and me, you still work like a young man. You handle that hammer quite well. And they way to use your leg to add body weight behind the bit, just amazing. 3 minutes on that beast and I would be just a heap of biological splat on the ground. Well done sir. A testament to men of our generation. You are one hard ass dude! 👍

Thanks for watching and contributing Alan, I guess that If I had been doing an office job all my working life and I just picked up a rock drill for the first time it would be wiped out, it comes down to what you are used to and muscle development from repeated use.

I think I might have said it before, but you'd make one hell of a good rock climber. With your light weight and amazing flexibility, plus you must be strong as heck from lifting those big drills all day. You'd also be able to identify any rock face you were about to climb. Seeing you almost leap into the air, like an acrobat, lifting your leg over the drill @4:20 is what made me think it again today. You are like a wee stick of dynamite!

Who needs to visit the gym, when your Demo Dave - don't know how you manage all the physical stuff! New drill seems pretty good, plus the usual ''leg over'' :). I remember that long term use of these percussion drills can produce De Quervains disease (tenosynovitis) from sustained vibration - hope you have seemingly managed to stay away from that. That's a big (huge) assortment of rocks - more great work. That 72 hole final one showed the delays nicely on slo-mo. You mention the 'echelon' element - back when I studied this stuff we called it 'Chevron" pattern - same idea - this was way back in UK.
@demolitiondavedrillandblast
@demolitiondavedrillandblast Жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, thanks for tuning in, I certainly don't need to go to the gym... but I do swim a lot. I don't have any broken body issues at this stage but I would like to give the hand drill jobs away soon and just do drill rig stuff. The chevron pattern hook up is an old classic that looks similar but but has some big differences, e.g. Shot started at delay #0 in the center of the face, delay #1 was 3 holes that made the first chevron, delay #2 was 5 holes that made the second chevron etc. This is a big advantage over the earlier method of firing it row after row as it gave better fragmentation. These days the plan is to make sure that no 2 holes fire with a time delay closer than 8 milliseconds - a critical number for blast vibration management considerations. This is achieved by using a control row (front row) time spacing of 17ms/hole and the reverse echelon rows are timed @ 42ms/hole, this works out very nicely without any sub 8ms timing collisions until you get about 5 or 6 rows deep and give superior fragmentation compared to previous methods.
@ChrisB257
@ChrisB257 Жыл бұрын
Many thanks for the reply Dave - appreciated. I see the difference now - my 'chevron' training was of course rock face work - quarry etc - sort of 'classic'. Your considerations make total sense and I imagine the planning for your delays must be pretty carefully made to avoid 'collisions'! Some similarities between approaches in as much as one always wants a hole energy to go where it can do most useful work Thanks again :)

I'm impressed as usual at your video craftsmanship and your layout and efficient technique for loading and tying up the blasts. It was fun watching that longer segment of you setting up that one blast. Being as how I used to tunnel blast I was of course comparing the similarities and the absolute differences required for blasting on surface around people's houses. You peaked my interest about the nature of Kangaroos as well and what it must be like living and or working in their vicinity. I think everyone has seen the videos of not aware people being mugged by big male reds but those types of portrayals I would image tend to not be the norm. It would be like bear and cougar videos here. Speaking of tend, this video is a 10 Dave. Thanks for producing them and putting them up for us to watch.

Thanks for tuning in, good to have people onboard that have worked in the industry. The Grey Kangaroos are generally not much of a problem as they would rather get out of your way...most of the time but you don't push them as they can be very dangerous. We do not have the Reds around here but I understand they are best left alone. Biggest problem with the greys is that they have no road sense at all and regularly tangle with traffic.

looking at the job on the front end i'd been tempted to bring in the drill rig Dave! seems like the digger operator knew how to use the rock bucket pretty good especially compared to a few you've had in the past!

I would have bought my little excavator mounted drill to this one except that my tilt tray truck is off the road at the moment, my other option is to pay somebody to move it for me but I would not be able to take it home each day. Having had Two machines stolen, I'm not keen on leaving stuff at the site.

@@demolitiondavedrillandblast you know Dave after thinking on it i bet that vibration issue at a 100 psi is an out of balance piston! steel can be denser in some parts of stock than others if the mill that poured it isn't careful! i bet if it's spin balanced it'll show it's heavier on one side!

There has also been a failed attempt to steel my little digger, they were unable to start it because I had pulled the plug off the engine stop solinoid.... so they gave the instrument panel a hammer massage.

MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼…………………………………………….The kangaroos are pretty cool! I hope they aren’t as stupid as the deer are here. They will be eating in a field, then bolt straight into the road and total your vehicle when you hit them. I know from experience, thank God I was in a Jeep and not on a motorcycle! Cheers

Oh... they are very dumb critters. Like all marsupials, they have a very small brain and very often jump into traffic. Recently I was dirt biking with friends and we stopped to wait for others to catch up, just as I was slowing up one jumped clean over my head!

Amazing as always! The CP69 ... I know nothing about drills, but they look symmetrically built ... could a person not unbolt the bottom end and turn it 180 degrees to relocate the foot plate release? Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦

That has crossed my mind Paul, some drills you can however with this one it has a small built in oil reservoir for chuck lubrication and I expect that a oil gallery runs between the main body and lower bit. I'll know the first time I have to open it up.

Kinda proprietary formula and artistry that part there. Also proportioning proper amounts of the "working materials" per hole and based on depth as well as the material to be broken is based on hard knowledge and decades of experience. Understanding the way rocks break and move and sequencing the delays to accommodate the material split off and moving just looks easy in the videos. Likely for Dave it is in fact just that, easy. There is actually allot of info on the internet about the how and why of everything Dave does and Dave not telling helps keep his insurance low!

Hey... welcome WELD MACHINE, I think that if the buyer had of had even the slightest look around he would have seen the huge number of rocks in the paddock next door and got a strong hint of the trouble brewing. This is a full time gig for me, will be 30 years on in August. Never good to hit skippy on the road, something more concerning is the number of deer that I have been seeing on the road recently.
