You definitely need to come back to this one once it’s full. I would love a series on all the ponds you’ve done in the past.
@K7DFA5 ай бұрын
@JGW5303 : I'd kinda like to see that, too, but it'd probably take Chris about 10 years to get all of them "in the can", unless he suspended all other operations! 😁😁😁😁 "FAT CHANCE" of that, since the excavation business is the real "money machine", and Chris' real passion. Besides, I'm pretty sure that some of those property owners, would decline having their pond recorded.

That beach looks great . Once the grass grows up around the pond it will look even better .
@chosen1one9305 ай бұрын
It a extremely long process because people don't have a clue what their doing when growing grass, the majority at least. The big problem with trying to grow grass after a pond build is the raw compaction from all heavy machinery. The soil is literally compacted so tight roots have a hard time growing. Once it looks like you have decent grass, it will wilt or die during summer heat because there is barely any root system. You also have to amend the soil and put nutrients into the soil since soil lower lower in the ground has little to no nutrients, that's why tree roots stay in the first 1 to 3 feet of soil.
@chosen1one9305 ай бұрын
I will never understand why people get beaches on a pond. The sand will only end up in the pond eventually due to heavy rain. I would rather have a island putting green, astroturf because I wouldn't be lugging a 15K greensmower on a boat. A nice big patio with pavors and granite, maybe a small beach for kids nothing big
@K7DFA5 ай бұрын
@@chosen1one930 : "I will never understand why people get beaches . . . . " I'm sure you're correct about the sand, although I'm also certain that Chris knows how to minimize the erosion, and has done what he can, within budget, and reason to that end. PS: Recent articles I've seen online suggest that "astroturf", while "low maintenance ", isn't even close to "environmentally friendly". Of course, hauling a 25k mower out to that island isn't likely to be back muscle, or wallet "friendly", either! 🙂

I can't get over how deep and how steep the dam walls turned out, looks fantastic Chris.
@fearmeknot5885 ай бұрын
I want to see it in three years?
@skayt355 ай бұрын
A slope of 1 : 1.5 is ambitious. Best practise would have been to limit the steepness to 1 : 2. Chris compacted it very well, but this pond might still need more frequent maintenance, and will definitely require higher efforts when having to repair erosion.
@larryriffett9185 ай бұрын
I know Chris is a pro didn't see whole build just him raking top. This thing is gonna hold a huge amount of water & that dam doesn't look anywhere near wide enough to do so I guess time will tell. The back side looks like it needs to be three times the size 🤔🤷
@K7DFA5 ай бұрын
@@larryriffett918 : You're absolutely correct about one thing, sir; "Chris is a professional." The actual height of the dam is ≈ 10 feet above the original grade it's built on. The apparent height is from the collection of the material for that ≈ 10' x ≈ 400' dam, the core of the dam, and the top ≈ 10'(?), of the island, from between the island, and the "dam". 🙂 In other words, the "pond"/lake (take your pick), is more of a hole than it is superstructure of the dam.
@T3RS15 ай бұрын
My first reaction was: Wau Amazing! My second reaction when I seen how steep that dam is (it's not even wall it's a F-ing dam) ... I was like who the F build a lake so high up the hillside! It looks ugly as F compared to surrounding terrain! Just look how much space is left under that dam to nothing. Don't get me wrong that job is well F-ing done but that owner should picked up different place to build a f-ing dam.

The drop off at the end of the beach is super steep. I wonder if the owner will mark that somehow? I suppose you can drown as easily in six feet of water as a hundred.
@kennethstaszak99905 ай бұрын
@@TrevorDennis100 An important consideration is that a person/animal can get exhaused trying to climb the slope to get out. That's when the likeliness of drowning increases.
