This is Granny's Garden - a edutainment game from 4mation that I remember playing on the BBC Micro in the late 1980s in the primary school. In this video I fully walk through the whole game, resorting to using save states towards the end, as some of it is a bit trial and error, and probably because as a fully grown adult, I am still too thick to be able to solve puzzles aimed at 6-8 year olds.
It has a scary-arse witch in it, that probably scarred and terrified many an 8 year old back in the day - I get captured by her several times in this walk through!
Comment below if you remember playing this game as well! I also remember playing Dinosaur Discovery on the school BBC Micro as well, and I've done a video on that as well, so make sure that you check that out!
Available to buy from 4mation:
www.4mation.co.uk/cat/granny.html
itunes.apple.com/gb/app/retro...
This was played on a Windows 10 machine using the BeebEm emulator.

incredible to think that back in the day, this game blew our tiny minds. Think I was 10 when we were allowed to use the BBC Micros in our junior school. Circa 1985

I remember playing this version when I was at primary school. The witch though scared the shit outta me as the music and the way her eyes and mouth moved was just to much for me at the time.

This game is like a fever dream to me. We played it in primary school when I was about 5. It scared the hell out of me. I was ill and had time off of school. When I went back, I desperately wanted to face my fear of the witch. During lunch break, I snuck in to the classroom and my 5 year old brain tried to boot the bbc cpu up. I killed that cpu outright. They had no idea how to fix what I broke. I guess I killed that witch in the end. Just not the intended way. 😂

The dragon puzzle is not pure luck, it is actually very simple. A dragon will come out for a food it loves and will go back in when offered a food it hates. You can start with any food, you then use the food that the dragon you just collared hates, do this a further two times to collar all 4 dragons.

I'm obviously easily outwitted by puzzles aimed at primary school children!

No one can compete this kids game on KZfaq! Wow closure I used to play with one friend and I don't recall completing it and remember writing it all down. Acorn computer circa 1990?

Yup, that's where I played it too. I think a lot of the UK did in the mid 80s.

Well, it seems significantly less exciting now then it did when I was 5.. but a great video nonetheless. Thanks! I vaguely remember all the kids sat on the floor around a computer that they had wheeled in (the school's only computer if I remember correctly) while the teacher typed in the instructions that the kids voted on. It was the highlight of the school week to be able to 'play' on a computer. The game came on these enormous floppy disks that you fed into the machine and let it chug away reading them. Part 1 and 2 being on separate disks of course. I think it was a little while before I got a Spectrum 48k, and the likes of Horace goes Skiing. Much more advanced gameplay there. I was 4/5 in 1983.. so things are very hazy. The music though appears to be seared onto my brain. Maybe in 40 years time, children of today will look back at a Playstation 5 and struggle to believe what once passed for entertainment.

Definitely a little dry on the gameplay side. I love how they didn't bother integrating the puzzle into the game. It's just tacked on shamlessly! :D

How the hell do you play the dragon game? Just read the comments but it makes no sense.

The rules of the game aren't made very clear, even for adults to comprehend. But basically, you can only use the collar on a dragon when exactly *one* dragon is out. If there are two dragons (or more) out, then you can't use the collar on either, even if one of them is already collared. How the food works is: when you throw a type of food, it lures out the dragon that loves it, forces back the dragon that hates it, and does nothing to dragons that "sometimes eat it" (if they're out, they stay out). The only way to achieve the task is to first lure the first dragon by throwing any type of food - and importantly, next, force back the first dragon by throwing the type of food it hates. And so on and so forth.
