In this video I will demonstrate how we prepare and plant our grape tomatoes into coco coir slabs to grow them hydroponically. We transplanted our 375 grape tomatoes on March 10. We grow Ruby crush, a Dertiminate variety, in one or our 30x96 greeenhouse and use the Florida weave system with T post to trellis them.
We purchase our coco coir from AMA Horticulture in Ontario and many of our other greenhouse growing products from Crop King in Ohio as well as Waldo and Associates in Perrysburg Ohio.

Heck yeah, I wear shorts year-round when backpacking and running and also on the farm spring through fall as long as I’m not doing something that’s dangerous or messy.

Glad the mic sounds good. I’ve had to deal with my greenhouse tomato transplants stretching too much every year for the last 20 years, no matter what I do or what I use I cannot keep them short and stocky like my field tomatoes that I grow in germination mix, I certainly would consider trying a different fertilizer blend for the starts. Thanks for watching Bill.

I just discovered why my plants have been stretching so bad for the past few years after talking to another experienced grower...my fertilizer mix I've been using has a lot of Ammoniacal N and not enough Nitrate N, which has been causing so much cell elongation. I ran out of proper mix a few years ago and did not pay close attention to the N analysis. There are several other factors as well, but that is a big one.

What are your determinant tomato varieties?
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms 3 ай бұрын
The grape tomato is Ruby Crush. The red rounds in the field are Rambler, Skyway 687, STM2255, Roadster and BHN 964. The yellow is Carolina Gold and the Roma is Mariana.

@@wishwellfarms thanks so much. We are trying to use determinants this year between our greenhouses and that Florida weave system looks like the way to go out there. Not really wanting to build the infrastructure to use tomahooks and the lower and lean that I use inside the greenhouses. Thanks for sharing! Chuck

Great . what problems you faced with high tunnel ? In south punjab pakistan we sow tomatoes in october when temp is low and crop harvest at March_ April . same with chilli . Now temp is 44_45 degree Centigrade .

A high tunnel is by far less expensive than an automated Greenhouse, but the management of the high tunnel is vastly higher. I was the only one managing it, and it was a nightmare, checking on it all throughout the day make sure the temperature was right we also had to worry about our soils getting diseases in them From planting tomatoes in the same spot year after year after year. Don’t have to worry about any of these thingsgrowing in greenhouses.

I think the coco slabs a r great method. Seems less labour intensive way doing it. Is there any way to recycle the overflow of nutrien rich water that comes out of the bag. Seems like u would b wasting alot of that nutrients
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms 4 ай бұрын
Thanks Eric. We have never recycled any of our used leach water, I know some people do, but I am not set up for that. I’ve always been under the impression that a majority of the nutrients that Tomatoes need have been removed and it’s full of extra salts that could harm the plants. Even the other greenhouses with Bato buckets, the leach just runs out the greenhouse into the field. Larger commercial set ups have the coco slabs about wast high on stands, and would be much easier work with and collect the runoff.
