Filmed on May 4, 2024. This is how I control thrips in our greenhouse tomatoes. We use a high pressure sprayer and several biological insecticides.

Great video, it's always good to see what others use to control insects. You could try putting a wheelie wheel on back of the sprayer.

Yes! A wheelie wheel on the back would solve that problem I bet, great idea thanks!

Great video. I, personally, love seeing the Chem applications on farms. Spraying any type of chemicals on a farm has such a bad wrap when it comes to any type of general knowledge on social media. But what ppl just don't realize is that if it wasn't for the the chems that farmers have to apply to their produce, they wouldn't have the high quality products that sustain them from day to day. Having u show show that there are options to spray to control the things that could easily decimate a field, that r not detrimental to the health of the populations, is great as an informative bit of knowledge to show ppl that produce is still safe to eat and will not harm them in any way, shape of form. Keep them coming. Thx for taking the time to create the great videos.

Good watching. We have thrip problems on our roses.ittle blood suckers. We use organic dish drops and Neem oil. The dish drops is a cleaning product but organic mixted with water it coats the leaves stops the thrip only spray very thin application once or twice a season.

Loved the video. Thanks for sharing. Would love to see how you constructed your greenhouse sprayer. Makes so much more sense than a backpack sprayer!!! Wishing you a great harvest bud

Thank you! I actually purchased that sprayer already built and ready to use so I will not be able to speak on the sprayer construction. A backpack sprayer would be nice in smaller applications but that 25 gallon sprayer is nice to cover a lot of area fast!

Loved the video my friend! I use a battery operated drill with a flipper connection (has fins) to mix my sprays real good before pouring into the sprayer. I use it for nematodes too. Works great

Thanks! I would also use a mixer of some type if I was doing this regularly but I'm only mixing stuff like this for the greenhouse a few times a year so not really a big deal. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have also heard this same info about thrips...they love to over winter in left over debris in the greenhouse like weeds or old plant material. I was told to flood out the floor of the greenhouse with soapy water but I can't do that since mine are gravel and not concrete. Thanks Bill!

I layed all my plastic back in early April when the ground was dry. It sucks when the weather doesn't cooperate, I had so many years where I couldn't get crops in on time and had huge plants that were stunted and root bound. Hope the rain stops so you can lay all that plastic. I'm seeing a few thrips on my tomatoes and I will use some pyrethrin on them. Our main tomato pest are horn worms and I use BT on them. I love my back-pack mister for spraying the houses, I cut the nozzle down and use just a small amount of spray that I blast through the canopy to cover all surfaces. I don't own a pair of shorts, my shins take a beating if they aren't covered jeans

I had the chance to lay it on April 25th but still not sure if it was dry enough and now I'm kicking myself for not trying. This only happens like twice a decade...not fun. I use pyrthrin as well in the past but have not this year yet...one year I had an issue with it speckling the fruit after a spraying on a hot sunny day and I was using pyrthrin that day so I'm always leary about using it again when I have fruit on the vine. What rate do you use? I think I was using 1-2 tsp per gal. NO SHORTS! I would be miserable in pants all day! I milked cows my entire life and always wore jeans around the dairy and in the workshop but when I'm not picking sweet corn or pumpkins I normally wear shorts now 😁

@@wishwellfarms 2 tsp per gal, never had an issue with pyrethrin but have used too high rate of neem oil and had some leaf burn on a hot sunny day. Neem is curative for powdery mildew which I've had a couple times in the past, all the fancy chemicals only prevent powdery mildew where as neem will kill it after it is established. Got a great stand on my beans but then they started to wilt and die after first true leaf, looks like seed maggots as the untreated variety is completely gone. Our transplanted sweetcorn on April 16 is now 14'' tall, crows have pulled up a bunch of seeded corn, my dead crow hanging out in the field isn't working, always did in the past , smart bastards. Hope your determinants come out of the 2four D damage. Have used stinger ten feet outside of hoop house on canada thistles and the chem followed roots into the house and messed up plants for two seasons on six feet of two rows. I tank mix stinger with liberty on any corn ground with canadas, they are taking over the world. Hope we get a dry stretch, I'm a week behind on my next planting of sweetcorn and need to lay plastic for melons.

@@waynebusse6376 The pyrethrin that I use is called Evergreen, it is 6%, is that similar strength to what you are using? It also has 60% piperolyl butoxide which is just a synergist to help it work better and is most pyrethrins that I've seen unless it's lableled for organic use, then it can't be in there, kinda like Pyganic.
