That's right. We like to think of ourselves as aloof from graphics. But, seriously, graphics help a lot with immersion - especially if you get the camera angles right. Let's take a look.

To me it really matters how much the program is TRYING to look good. I feel OOTP’s 3D models are super janky and the animations are very predictable, once you’ve played enough you can fully understand what’s going to happen almost instantaneously. I tend to play 2D for that reason and let the PBP tell the “real” story

Love the video. What is that old DOS-based text-only game at the 00:25 mark? I remember having it back on the day but for the life of me can't recall the name.

That's the old APBA Baseball for DOS game - I think the screenshot is from version 1.0 or 1.5.

This game should just be a modern day version of earl weaver baseball. What a missed opportunity

You know - I often ask myself why the guys who make these sims don't at least throw something simple out there like Microleague and Earl Weaver Baseball did. It baffles me that we had better graphics in these games 30 years ago.

It is funny in the mid 80s to maybe the early 90s we had games that were replay based with good animation and graphics for the time (still better then some of these games today), but for whatever reason these games made a decided turn with graphics and animation went down the action only path and statistics replay games went down the text only path. Action PC sort of deviated with it the animated chalkboard, and then OOTP are closest decedents to games like MicroLeague and Earl Weaver's baseball.

To me, OOTP's graphics look dated, cartoonish, and actually distract from the game.

graphics matter a ton. Is why I stopped playing C&Ds long ago and just go with PC sims. OOTP does the the overall best mix of graphics and accuracy...and as youve pointed out it does have its issues. My preference is still Action PC baseball. What I do is use the the OOTP mod stadiums in APC with the chalkboard and then have custom cards as the player pics. It is single angle, but I like that and its just the cards moving (not players). But its good enough for me as I consider APC a superior sim to OOTP. Im talking as a non-streamer of course. Perhaps one day there will be a game that is a perfect mix of APC and MLB The Show. Same with football with APC and EA quality graphics.

I use home plateb for the initial shot, the center field classic camera view for the pitch, and use either the action cam or home plateb for the action angle. I also turn the dynamic camera on. I also use the following: Follow Ball - Yes Dynamic Zoom - Enabled Camera Movement Delay - 0.50 s Camera Transition Time - 0.50 s Camera Movement Speed - 50 Zoom Factor - 20 I put the 3D Animation Speed on Slightly Fast. I've found that faster settings make it so the camera moves way too quickly. Anyway, you might want to experiment a bit and see what looks best on your system. I've got all graphics turned up to their maximum level, which also helps - but this depends on what your system resources are.

I love the cameras in OOTP. I have to adjust them alot to the angle I want. Sometimes it's pointing into the stands or underneath the stadium, so you have to readjust them. It makes for a fun game when it's all set. Sometimes I miss the c&d where you have to use your imagination, but the graphics of OOTP have spoiled me.
