Grasmere, River Rothay, Rydal Water and Coffin Road walk

An easy circular walk starting from Grasmere village in the heart of the Lake District. We follow the lakeshore path around Grasmere then the footpath alongside the River Rothay to Rydal Water. You could pop into Badgers Bar for refreshments once you reach the road at Rydal. We walk through the grounds of St Marys Church at Rydal and on to Rydal Mount which was home to the poet William Wordsworth between 1813 and 1850. From here we take the Coffin Road / Coffin Route all the way back to Grasmere. When we reach the outskirts of Grasmere we pass Dove Cottage which is also where William Wordsworth lived with his family before moving to Rydal Mount. A wonderful walk with fantastic views and if you're lucky, as we were, you might spot a red squirrel along the way.

We did this very same walk a couple of years ago..it was lovely...we were on the lookout for Red Squirrels all of the way round....it wasn't until we got back to Grasmere that we saw one...running up the main road through the village....enjoyed your video.

Glad you enjoyed it, that’s not the first time you’ve done the same walk. You know what they say “great minds think alike” I think we were lucky to see two Red Squirrels, always great to see even if it’s running up the road…

A lovely (if rather wet) walk, and the commentary added to it -- thank you! There had clearly been a rather excessive amount of rain recently, even for the Lake district.

The commentary was a seed you sowed back when we filmed the 17 miles of the Dales Way. I think you’re right, commentary and captions add to the film. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment again this year Jim, we appreciate it. All the best for 2024
