Im in east Central Texas love watching your stuff. im in the very beginning of my journey. just got my first 6 bred cows a couple weeks ago. I have no livestock experience just watching courses, video, and books so im starting with Corrientes bred to a Aberdeen angus to start super cheap for learning. Ill breed some better genetics in as i go but wanted to start low cost, low maintenance, hardy cows. I live 1.5 hours away from my 24 acre property so i move them every 3-4 days. I want to introduce some bat latches or teeter gates to help automate some moves when im not there but still working on setting up infrastructure.

Sounds like you're out to a great start! Glad to see you are moving your cows early on in your ranching journey. People who don't move their animals are missing out on one of the top rules in nature. Hope it goes well for you! If you decide to get more cattle or want to start raising sheep, give me a shout!

@@counterculturefarms its what got me into it, regeneration and soil that create food is what got me. I want to do sheep because of the small acerage but the predators and lower amount of rotations causing health issues worry me

If you are moving cattle every 3-4 days, just move the sheep at the same time. You can also graze them together. Counter Culture Sheep thrive if you move them every 3-4 days. As for predators, we have our livestock guardian dogs trained to a Sheep proof dog feeder so the dogs can eat dog food but the sheep can't get to it. This way we don't have to be out there to feed the dogs everyday. We have dogs available too that are already bonded to the sheep.

@@counterculturefarms thats awesome i figured 3-4 days was too long. Dogs dont bother the cows or calves if they run in a flerd?

My dogs don't because they run with cattle too. I expose them to all my animals so that they will protect everything on the farm.
