I read that when George Washington, our first president died, he left instructions to have his body lay in rest in the parlor of his home for three days before burial. Just to make sure that he was very much dead, before burial. Great walking tour, thank you very much GV and Sue. 😊

That was always a fear of mine. Back then, doctors could make mistakes in pronouncing someone deceased, when they may have been in a very deep sleep. This is so interesting. Thanks GV!

Great Video❤ amazing to see a intact Bell vault. Never seen one in real life. Could the big vault at the end of the " vault street" that was closed up with the metal, been a receiving vault for winter use? Like when the ground was frozen?

Couldn't it be just a simple chain hoist to lower the coffins down into the crypt? We see the hook on the end, and an eye on the top of the coffin. So how could she pull the chain if it didn't go through the top of the coffin? Just pondering.

@peterbilt-bo1vy8 ай бұрын
No. Modern medicine prevents it now. Don't live in fear, it is a form of bondage used constantly by the fallen angel Lucifer. Do not let him have any control over you. The more you fear the stronger he becomes. Don't give him that power.

I keep looking and asking my self, "is the debris or are those bones?" Looks like one of the coffins was open just a little bit and bones got scattered. Back in those days, people had to contend with body snatchers, grave robbers (ancient and modern), waking up after everyone thought you were dead, and wild animals digging you up.

Just an added thought the bell vault reminds me of an episode of CSI. In one episode George Eades character gets buried alive. Then they put fire ants in with him. He survived. I would have just died. Now that is a scary idea. I understand the need for a bell.

@@davidhepple Yes, that was a thing back in the day. Attaching a rope/chain to a bell outside was a way to indicate that the person was still alive. Fresh graves were usually watched for a few days to listen for the bell.

People would be paid to sit by the grave, day and night for several days, (or family members would stay) to make sure the person didn't wake up and ring the bell ....
@Iazzaboyce5 ай бұрын
It is true people were sometimes buried with a means to ring a surface bell. And it is possible there was such a device in that mausoleum. However, it is also possible the chain is part of a mechanism used to place coffins inside the mausoleum. My friend's gran wanted to be embalmed and then buried with a bell...

It seems there were a number of Countesses de Lusi around Dublin over the years, and I'm not sure which the Dowager may have been. Apparently, the de Lusi name died out in Ireland by 1919, so it must predate that.

@shivangi37698 ай бұрын
@@GraveVisitationsI think the OP is referring to the mausoleums that seem similar in shape. These were usually sold as a "unit" to an individual or family. The purchaser could customize their resting place accordingly. However, a lot of families made changes to only the interiors while mostly retaining the exterior except for adding their name or family crest/signia. This was partly due to graveyard design stipulations as this estate was very expensive and they had to sell units to individuals of similar social standing. OP, while these places may look similar they are very valuable real estate. They have also stood the test of time if you see the dates on there. They are a piece of (architectural) history, a revered site for families to pay respects to their ancestors and a reminder for us mortals - memento mori. Graveyards are interesting for their energetic imprint as well.
