My faded dyed brown (transitioning to gray) hair turns a brassy orangey red, so once a week I use Joico's awesome Blue Shampoo to get rid of the brassiness and to make my silvers shine. I always follow it up with Joico K-Pak Intense Hydrator Treatment to make my hair soft and silky.
The blue shampoo will not work unless you use it correctly. I explain the process in the video.

I have also tried Fanola shampoos purple no yellow to brighten white blonde hair and they have a blue no orange to get rid of brass in brown. Many people prefer this brand as well

Thank you so much for your video. I am also transitioning to grey, and the coloured hair that was once dark brown, has now faded to a brassy/orange colour. I bought a purple shampoo and conditioner, a few weeks ago in a local supermarket, and just used it as i would the regular ones - as in, washed in, washed off, but didn't leave on my hair. I didn't notice a difference, though i did attract a good few compiments about my hair. Last week i bought Fanola No Orange Blue Shampoo and mask, and did leave it on, as per instructions. My grey hair is now a violet colour!!!!

Did you try putting it only on the brown part of your hair? Thank you I’m transitioning now and was wanting to try this to tone down the brassy red tones in my dyed hair.

thanks for sharing! I started going silver early... I'm 27 now and ready to ditch the dye. I cut my hair short to start the process. I started using blue Joico shampoo to make my silvers shiny :)

I have, had, naturally dark brown hair. Mine hasn't gone brassy though. The brown dye has faded to a lighter brown, which I don't care for. I just bought Clairol Shimmer Lights and it blended the silver, white and brown quite nicely. Not sure if you tried it but I imagine it's a lot cheaper than Joico. I picked it up at Target.

I'm using the Joico purple shampoo on my almost 6 mos. gray and it's really looking brighter. Great product but I have to order on Amazon; can't seem to find it in stores.

V. 1954 how strange - I have always found it at Ulta and other beauty supply stores. I’m glad you were able to get it off Amazon!

Are you still using it now that it's been a year later? My 13 month brown ends are so orangey while transitioning, I need something! Also, what do you think would happen if I only put it on my brassy ends so as not to alter the silver growth color, which I'm happy with? Thanks for your blog, I follow you on fb and your hair is gorgeous!

Hi, Diane - I'm almost all grown out so only use blue shampoo occasionally (mainly because I've gotten kind of used to the orange, and mine has faded to a light auburny color so it doesn't bother me as much). It's OK to just put it on your brassy ends but then you'll miss out on the great effect blue shampoo has on your silver hair - it makes the silver appear brighter and more intentional, which is great if you want that effect! But if you want to just reduce the brassiness and leave the silver alone, that would be fine, too! Thanks for the sweet words :-)
