If your 6th gen Civic is spraying coolant here and there, you might have this very common issue. It's a free fix and takes 5 minutes. Hope this helps some 6th gen owners out there.

I found that out the hard way after replacing my thermostat and water pump! Great fix. Finally fixed mine. Also if your instrument cluster isn't reading it is the temp sender right next to that small hose that needs replacing, not the ECT to the far right or the fan switch on the t-stat housing.

I been trouble shooting this issue as well with my radiator fans not turning on ' everyone say's it's the thermostat causing overheating ( and it probably is too ) but I'm questioning the cooling fan sensor/switch . it's a 94 Integra . I already changed coolant temp sensor when I did distributor and then other things started popping up . I do have a hair-line leak along my radiator as he mentioned, so gonna try JB water-weld to patch-it up tomorrow . man I just cant gatch a break from this car !!

@@sambumanglag6432 sorry to hear... I'd check the fan switch right by the thermostat, but I agree with everyone else... Replace your thermostat if the lower hose stays way colder than the upper hose. You can get a good CSF plastic top for a good price from rockauto. That's where I got mine. Also, I tried other rad caps and the best one is the OE Honda/Acura ones. Hope you fix it!

@@vuthsam9920 thanks for the advice' I do plan on replacing thermostat along with switch since It'll be next to it. ( what's this CSF plastic top ? ) I've been draining so much $$$ in the last month it's all making me crazy . I wish it was 1-2 things every year but noooo. and can't afford auto mechanic because it would totall break the bank !

@@sambumanglag6432 its a CSF Radiator but it isn't all aluminum, so it has the plastic top like an OEM radiator. You can also go to pick n pull or your local junkyard and grab the fan switch and maybe fan relays as well for your fan or even a fan itself at the junkyard. I wouldn't seal it with jb water-weld. You'll probably find a bunch of radiators there also. You can probably get away with a civic radiator too if you can't find an integra one. The parts are interchangeable.

Thanks to you and your best helper!!! You guys ROCK!!! I had the same problem with my My 2000 Civic LX. I also found a different tutorial looking for an oil leak. That's where I learned how to remove the distributor and more easily access the clamp that holds the leaking hose. I also cut the hose about 2" -2/12 " from the end. Then I had to cut and pry the rest of the end where the rubber hose had "bonded" to the hard metal pipe nipple. This left enough hose to slide over the nipple and clamp with the original factory clamp.

I replaced my radiator AND upper + lower hoses with OEM parts and I still had a leak. I thought I had solved the problem but I was still leaking, I read some forums and it brought me to this video. Sure enough, the heater core hose had a hole in it. Thanks for this video!

Oh ok! My distributor o-ring also needed replaced, and now my coolant has mysteriously vanished and below the min line and overheating after only 3 months of changing out and pressure testing and stuff. I'm afraid I might have a blown head gasket but before I do anything crazy I'll definitely check those hoses and especially that one, thanks this is very helpful! Right now I'm driving everyday with the heat on full blast in 90 degree weather, just to keep the coolant needle from creeping up at idle, sweating my butt off, so... lol.

Pretty much the same thing happened to me and now since i overheated the car by driving it like that to many times and now it looks like some of the coolant passages on the head are cracked after I removed the head. My plans are just rebuilding the whole engine since someone egged the crank before I even bought the car years ago.

You just solved my problem, best news ever, especially since some guy at the auto parts store was saying, “It could be a head gasket.” Umm, there is no way - there’s been no signs for it. So, thank you!!! I reached under there and found the fingertip sized hole in that hose. Now to figure out how to pinch the clamp to remove the hose, because the clamp ends are positioned upward against the distributor cap. Did you cut the hose first, then remove the remaining hose/clamp on the nipple? Thanks again for posting this video, life saver!
@gray25xt

Glad to help. It's been a while but IIRC I pinched the hose with alligator-style vice grips (a small one), pulled the side loose that goes into the engine, cut it, and reinstalled. 30 seconds of work here. Then just run the car and add a little coolant to the reservoir to make up for any lost.

That paint job looks mint for 216,000 miles. Has it ever been repainted at all or is it original? I have a Civic that’s also a 98 that has the metallic blue paint color and I took mine into a paint shop 4 years ago and had the professionals repaint my car. Same color as it was right from the factory.

So my heater hose the same hose as in the video was leaking so i replaced the hose and thought it was good to go. Well went to a friends house and a big puddle of coolant was on the ground. I knew the hose was good. This was on friday now sunday i cranked the car and immediately started pouring coolant from the same spot so i took the hose off and it still looked brand new. I noticed the nipple for the hose had a bolt on it to crank it on and off. I gave it a quarter to half turn put it all back and wala leak is gone.

Connects to the heater core! The same exact hose blew up one night on a 40 mile drive back home. What took to be a 30 minute drive ended up taking 3-4 hours just because I had to pull over every 1-3 miles to let the car cool down. Thought it was the head gasket but turned out it was the hose under the distributor that leads to the heater core lmao
