You guys need to change your perspective. His style is like real History. He borrows from real History. Reality is full of these mysteries. Often you can accurately fill in the blanks from circumstantial evidence but since it was hundreds of years ago, who knows. Also he literally doesn't know some of this stuff because he hasn't invented it yet...

There's an interview where he says he has fans that catalog all the details he has written in the books. He goes to them for confirmation when he is writing his books lol I forgot their names, but they have their own KZfaq channel and some people who have been in the fandom for decades do not like them because they (the catalogers) feel they have authority about where the story should go. GRRM has also talked about how he doesn't have outlines for his stories and people have also done analytical videos over how he writes stories compared to other authors. All this to say that I do believe him when he says he does not know what the truth is 😂 "death of the artist" does allow for different interpretations of art--once an artist releases their creation, the viewer can interpret the art differently from the original intent. I'm sure GRRM is aware of this and leaves room for interpretation and fan theories.

In fairness even in the best case scenario for Aegon, Viserys changed his mind on his death bed and only Alicent knew. So obviously Otto didn't ever think Viserys wanted Aegon on the throne, even from the Greens perspective

@@ACinemafanatic I think a lot of Rhaenyra's characterisation in F&B has been shown to be wrong and propaganda. I just see her being so exhausted by all the death and destruction that she gives up. AND I think there'll be a call back to the prophecy, she'll tell them so that they can defend the realm, that way her sacrifice will have a double meaning of a mother protecting her child and a Queen protecting the realm

They should have kept a better eye on King's Landing the entire time they were on Dragonstone. They had zero clue what was even going on over there. The moment Aemond left for Storm's End they should have swooped in, that would have been the perfect time.

I can't speak for anyone else, but my issue with ppl using the "books are unreliable narrators" as a way to shrug off SHOW changes, especially when the changes are unnecessary &/or less effective than the source material, is this: ALL of OUR real-world history is "unreliable narrators" too, if you think abt how history books have been written over the millennia. "History is written by the winners/conquerors", so history is skewed, until more information becomes available. That said, we all agree on certain events. We have factual evidence of People, their names, ages, appearance; Locations, alliances, specific chronological order of events, etc. • Why change Alicent's age? She was older in the books. What does history gain from misremembering her age? The show changed it to reinforce Alicent/Rhaenyra's friendship. When the show is over (all 4 seasons), we can better judge if that was a good choice or not. • No Maelor in show -- & this just comes down to regulations/restrictions abt kids on set & streamlining of scripts/storylines -- yet he's recorded in "history". • Daeron -- I'm glad he's finally officially in the show, but man was that announcement out of thin air in the show. -- NO ONE mentions him in universe & now he exists. It's so clunky. Anyways, yes "unreliable sources", but broad strokes of TRUTH were still in the source material & it's that source material that made ppl LOVE the world of ASOIAF more & it's bizarre the SHOW doesn't use what limited cited source material they DO have. The show is handicapped by our real-world morals & systems (TV restrictions, budget, production capabilities, etc) & that's why, IMO, the show is "SHOW canon" & the books are "book canon". The show is doing their own interpretation. Maybe in 20 years, someone else will get the property & do their own "take" on it. But the Books will always be the ultimate source material.

That would be a mistake. I really hope not
