If you separate the parts in your drawings (ie hair, skin, clothing), you can apply separate gradient maps on it instead, which saves you time instead of having to highlight the parts you want a gradient map to apply to again.

Seeing you actually work with the gradient maps and explain your thought processes was SUPER helpful, thank you! I feel like I could tell gradient maps were a powerful tool, but I couldn't quite figure out how I would use them and fit them into the processes I already have, so this was really really useful!

I actually straight up didn’t know how to use this function before. I just used the pre made ones and goofed off with em lol Thanks for making this! It’s actually going to be really helpful- I like making grey scale paintings and then adding colours in other layers. Usually it doesn’t turn out *exactly* how I want, just pretty close. I can see how this would make the process easier

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I used gradient map once on my ipad so far and I couldn't understand the light/dark ratio and why when I tried to apply some colors in certain areas on the scale they wouldn't register correctly. Much appreciated!

Eurasian is a person of mixed European and Asian ancestry, or a person of European ancestry born in Asia. I was born in Ukraine, so that makes me Ukrainian 😊 And now I live in Canada, so that also makes me Canadian 😊

Mel, you can undo. Unless you closed the painting and then went back to it. Then there's no way to remove it :(

Add a new layer over everything, make it white and set the blending mode to Saturation/Color (whatever works better) and it should turn out in b/w! Hope it helps!
