As someone who learned basic soldering as a kid and thought “I got this”, well by the 3rd ESC I did lol. Definitely a cool little item for someone learning!

Just ordered two. This is a great idea. I have been soldering for years but those tiny pads are really difficult especially with old tired eyes. This will help with finding a technique that works for me.

Pick up a Mustool G600 if you can afford it. They are a big help for old eyes. They are handy for removing slivers as well. Get the one with the aluminum stand.

A great product for beginners with no soldering experience. I would have bought this if was available at the time I started. My worst soldering job was cold joint failure mid flight on negative power pad. Didn't have enough heat, large enough tip to get the job done properly. My kwad fell from the sky during its maiden flight. 🤓

I didnt finish this video all the way, running off to work....but another good tip that helped me was to use clear nail polish between tight joints/pads! works wonders. cheers. love the videos, keep doing them!

Desoldering wick is very important as well, for solder mistakes, Diatone might want to add that to the package. Must learn how to solder and desolder first, awesome idea...Thanks for sharing!

Guys I was just there and bought that exact stack. Well I have a fair amount of experience soldering or thought I did. I ran into nothing but problems with the ESC and getting the solder to stick to it. Hard lesson learned but I was using the wrong or low grade solder and it turned into a nightmare and by the time I realized the mistake I got the power leads on well. The ESC is now bad. Ahhh the lessons amd this cazy hobby, just when you think all is well finally.

It's like you made this with me in mind. I've killed 2 FC with poor soldering. Usually I bridge a couple of tiny pads and then have a heck of a time getting the excess solder off and end up burning the board.

Yeaaaa. Someone on the internet is using flux. I just got done soldering for the past 2 hours at work. I prefer liquid wash solder from a dropper bottle as it transfers heat the best. You have to wash with water after you are done but it allows you to get the job done fast. Ideally, you want to have the iron on the joint for 2 seconds or less. When you twist wires you transfer oil from your skin to the wire. Flux removes this.

That practice board is HUGE compared to some of those micro stack pads... Not that i can't solder it's just an Old age thing.......can't see , have to use the number six lens about an inch think on my hobby glasses just to see the tiny pad and then my shaky old man hands that can't hit the mark when i do finally see it.....seriously....and I do not wear glasses normally ....LOL...but one reason I buy quads that are BNF....and why I have never built my own. [ also why i sent the quad to you ] LOL I had a BetaFPV 85 mm quad that the battery pigtail was not working...so went to change the pigtail...touched the pre-existing solder on the wire with my iron to get it loose and just that touch seemed to explode that tiny solder joint, solder ran all over the board.....tried to clean it but when soldered new pigtail and attached batter...that magic smoke appeared....why i I do not like messing with soldering be it my own or someones else's soldering. That's One example of many such incidents ...but the smaller it gets the worse it is to do anything.

I have the diatone gr 200s,with the furry f3s board ant the TBS that is soldered in the middle, but after a crashed the camera that was hooked to the jst plug on the board got loose,so now I need to use the pads and they are small and close, and my soldering skills are not good,so I definitely will be getting this practice board.

In the late 50s and early 60s radios came with bare wires coming out of the Rx. You had to solder connectors on every servo and battery connection. There was a variety of connectors to chose from so nothing was Plug-N-Play. The word "Plug-N-Play" did not exist. Servos had 5-7 wires and there was no standard order on the connectors. I learned to solder at age 10. Heat Shrink tubing didn't exist. Heck, 5-Minute Epoxy didn't exist. You even had to TUNE your receiver to your transmitter with a screw driver before each flying session. Never trust a guy that twists wires together and wraps it with black tape!

I wasn't worried after watching so many videos of fc's being soldered. But I went with a whoop board in a micro frame and every pad is like 1x1mm deffenitley don't recommend it if your not already proficient at soldering. particularly getting the power leads connected is a pain when the pad is the same diameter as the wire.

Been soldering for 20+ years and have used every kind of solder that I know of without issues. I now use silver bearing lead free. What is the reasoning to say not to use lead free in this video? I am curious of your reasoning. I like this video and the product. I will order some to keep in the drawer for when I feel rusty.

Not having seen this excellent video before I started attacking my DJI Phantom 2 Vision wifi board (trying to reflash to get FPV back), I spent so much time trying to get solder onto the pads (I didn't use flux....) that the pads are now dull and a little burned looking. Can these still be used (after obtaining flux) or have I blown it?

I fried my first flight controller so I just ordered another flight stack - mamba f405 MK2 mini. Question for you, is that the size of soldering tip you usually use for the receiver, vtx and FC? I was using a very fine pointed tip but was having a hard time getting solder to go onto the pads. I ordered the flux you mentioned though, but was wondering if I should use a similar tip as yours. Also, jw if you would know if the order of motor wires matters?

Quick question. I'm attempting to get into the drone hobby and have just received a tiny hawk and studying alot to build a bigger custom drone. Before I try to make a custom I want to fix my betaflight. For some reason when I try to connect to betaflight it said failed serial port. I have checked and used many USB cables and am Shure that I downloaded all of the driver's needed. Would you know why my betaflight won't accept my tiny hawk. Thanks for doing constant videos and helping learn and progress into this hobby.

Can you show a tiny lollipop antenna solder job for tiny hawk 2 freestyle type board, because that’s what I need to replace and solder on and I have trouble with the antenna wires because they have a little clip plug connector on them and you need to splice the wire first and there so tiny an are small wires, Plus I don’t have the best eyes and I have a little bit of a shaky hand syndrome problem too, if you can show how to do a little lollipop antenna soldered to the board that would be great thank you!

I've been trying to fix my quads for about a year now. I haven't been successful yet and have been grounded the entire time. I cant seem to get solder to stick and stay put cleanly. I either burn the board or melt the wire and pad. I also have 2 micros and the pads are so freaking small and my hands are so freaking shakey. Went and bought a ts100...still cant get it. So far I've ruined 2 flight controllers and a 4 in 1 esc. So frustrating and disheartening
