The Great Central Railways Spring Gala featuring two guest locomotives, a class 31, restored to it's final livery before withdrawal, of Railfreight Grey and a mighty Deltic running with a borrowed name from one of the 22 that did not survive. When built these were the most powerful diesel electrics in the world and at that time the only locomotive we had built to run at 100mph.

Very good presentation Cedarcam. Only wished it was paused longer on that builders plate. This phone when i pause it keeps the YT pause button in the center so i cant read it, oh well no big deal

Thanks Dave. I was a bit short on the builders plate and a closer view would be better, I will keep that in mind about pausing to read things on phones. The plate plate reads The English Electric Company Ltd London No 2914 / D566 1961 The Vulcan Foundry Ltd Locomotive works England. The plates are very collectable and sometimes went missing from locos in service.

This is a railway I've never seen - and probably never will now unless I win the National Lottery! Obviously a wide variety of locomotives and rolling stock, not perhaps a lot in the way of scenery? Where would you rank it in terms of personal preference?

Being a main line there is only one curve where you can get a view of the locomotive from the 2nd or 3rd coach and there is not much scenery, apart from the long bridge over the water. What makes it good to visit is the double track section where you pass the other train at 25mph, not stopped in a loop, and something missing on this gala the goods trains they usually run. They put on very good events, a roads and rails where they have traction engines, a fair ground event, 1940's weekend which they have decided not to have this year and having not been to that was really hoping to go this year, and my favourite event Railways at Work where they load/unload goods trains with all kinds of things, passenger trains carry mail bags and parcels and the line is full of activity just like the old days. This makes it my favourite line to visit. Other lines have good galas but none with regular goods and mixed passenger/ goods trains which bring back memories of seeing those in the last days of steam.

That signal on the approach to to Loughborough central looks complicated 4 arms one on top of eachother 22:04 another unusual signal at Rothley carriage yard. Round ground disk but black background yellow line not standard red and white. Only noticed one before at Swanage station loop. Didn't notice the pigeons lol

That signal is used for shunt moves towards the next main line signal The arms read top to bottom for the route most to the left 2nd arm to the route to the next track on the left and so on. Well spotted on the black disc signal. I had not noticed it. These used to have a white disc with a yellow line and were changed to black with a yellow line because the colours contrasted more. You can pass these at caution when the points are set into a yard but must wait until the disc is turned 45 degrees if the points are set to come out of the sidings onto the main line. The pigeons caught my eye Looked very realistic at first glance. I have not seen them before so could be a new prop they have made. Have to look out for them at the At Work Gala again The label has not shown up well.

@@axldelticwalton1238 I am glad it was not pouring down like today has been walking over there. By the time I got home I had walked 7 1/2 miles altogether. Not as much as I expected really but after a long day out would rather of had a 10 mins walk from the bus that should of come. At least that one came and saved an expensive taxi.
