Great Crested Grebe Courtship Dance

A pair of Great Crested Grebes in breeding plumage perform their courtship dance. Face-to-face, the two Grebes extend their head plumage and shake their heads, occasionally reaching back to touch their backs with their bills.
The Great Crested Grebe's courtship display sometimes includes the weed dance where the Grebes dive down into the water and reappear with a beak full of weed. They then swim back to each other and rear up out of the water, paddling frantically to keep upright. This part of the Grebe's courtship display lasts for just a few seconds and hopefully I'll be lucky enough to capture it for a future video.

What a beautiful capture! Already we rarely see them, at least here in Quebec, what a chance to have them filmed in courtship. They are beautiful birds and what a dance they do! Big bravos! Beautiful pictures !!!

Haha. What a strange courtship dance. They were so in sync for parts, and for other parts they were close but different. I wonder if that was a successful dance or not! The music was great and your visual storytelling was excellent. Please share the weed dance if you ever see it! :)

There was certainly a lot of head shaking going on :) It's probably a bit late for capturing the weed dance this year but hopefully I'll be lucky next year! Thanks for watching :)
