There is genius in all of these masters. Having played over 45 years my observation is that past a level of mastery you play it the way you feel it. All these guys are having a different conversation. For me I can't ID the greatest drummer in the world, they all have something to say and I'm going to borrow anything that perks my ear. Great vocabulary with eloquence, add a cool song, great players and stir.
@homard624 жыл бұрын
danny garrett Well said. I’d like to point out that Vinnies performance is the only one that is truly conversational as his solo is live and onstage, All three of these cats are top shelf and I’ve seen all live. I am very fortunate.

If these guys were cars - Steve is the aesthetic. You buy because it's too beautiful to pass up. Vinnie is the precision and how well the car handles all the hard to maneuver corners. Chris is the power and thrust that gets you from A to B safely and quickly. Talk about three of the greatest to ever live. Unbelievable how good these men are in their own respective styles. WoW!!!
@trevormaynard48925 жыл бұрын
All of them are Awesome in their own Right. Each have their own style and that’s what makes them so unique! I wish I could play half as good as anyone of them!😁😁. They’ve worked hard and studied for years and put many, many hour behind the kit. It’s defiantly takes a Love and desire to do that. If your in it just for $$ I don’t think you’d last long. You’d have to really live it, Love it, breath it, eat it every day like they do!! Not to mention their Blessed with just RAW TALENT as well!! I’m just Thankful I get to hear and watch them in my life time like many used to watch some of the greats before I came along. Totally a Gift. Thanks!👍👍😁😁

It’s his technique. I took his cymbal set home from Zildjian Day in New York 1984. All the cymbals used at that show (unless they were the artists personal instruments) went to the shop I was working at afterward. I played every single one at home before bringing them into work on Monday, and although all were good, only one was “wow” enough for me to buy, which was a 22” K ride, which I still own. It was nice to be able to play and compare instruments that were hand selected by Zildjian for the show.

apiece ofdirt You obviously don't know..... Steve has better technique than Vinnie and Chris. It's really true. Just because he doesn't play unnecessarily difficult chops doesn't mean he can't. He chooses musicality over technique, simplicity and space over filling every damn space with 32nd notes.
@apieceofdirt46816 жыл бұрын
Barren Savant I totally agree. Some of those guys can place those chops in certain areas of the music and make it sound like butter. But some of Vinnie’s parts are hard to listen to because he plays so technical that it sounds overplayed with no sense of musicality but that’s just how I hear some of his music. IMO so many qualities make up a good drummer and not just the ability to play technical fills all of the time. All of those drummers mentioned are amazing in their own way and their touch on the drums and ability to know the perfect way to play for a given piece makes them in a league of their own.
