This owl allowed me to approach within 1 meter. The other birds you hear are alarm calls from robins who dislike owls in their territory. Watch for a couple of dives on the owl by the robins. This owl stayed on this perch for another two hours after I finished photography.

This is best footage of wild owl on here. No unnecessary background music or narration, very organic. And respectful! Nothing is sadder than a captive/pet owl.

¡¡EXACTLY!! Most people would have ruined it by adding music, talking, etc. This clip is PERFECT as it is. It really feels like you´re actually out there with the owl.

This one has a very 'do you mind?' look to it. Seems fairly tame and trusting for a wild bird. Congrats for getting so near without scaring the bird away

I think it's the awesome power of digital zoom mixed with it being a predatory bird and not a bird that regularly becomes dinner giving you that impression.

This owl has visited several times since I made this video. I've since cut this stump, so I won't be able to get such a close image of this owl since it tends to perch in the trees now. I also moved the bee hives to another location in the yard.

I would have liked to have seen more videos of this owl perching on the stump. Was the stump in the way of something?
@simonsonjh

Mazryonh This was the only time I saw it perched in this stump. Other times it perched in the surrounding trees. Last year I cut the stump short, so it will not be perching on it again.

Jeffrey Simonson I understand; perhaps if this owl comes back to this yard you can take more videos of it. It clearly doesn't have a problem with you getting close to it.
@simonsonjh

Mazryonh I actually saw it last week. It was calling from up at the top of a big spruce tree. When it left its perch, it flew right over my head, completely silent. It was at night and completely dark except for a slightly brighter overcast sky, so I could just barely see its darker outline. Not many birds can fly at night.

Most people when seeing an animal/ bird people usually refers to them as he. Makes me happy i'm not that only 1 whom referred to the owl as SHE, is beautiful. 1 time I was walking my dog at almost 11pm and saw this big bird had the feeling it was an owl but didn't wanted to believe it & I looked up the tree branch and I wasn't sure then she flew down to the concrete where I could see her way better than completely realized it was in fact an owl. I was excited to see her but afraid at same time (I thought she was going to attack me& my dog) she just stood there on concrete street as I left. Are owl sometimes trying to tell someone something? I mean she could of easily have flown away from my sight or attack me with those huge claws they have

Interesting when I think about the bird calls in the background. That owl is hearing something very different from what I would hear. He knows exactly where those birds are because he can triangulate their location. Must be incredible to be able to do that.

It's because owls are very far-sighted. Hence, the owl was squinting to try to study and look at the person filming, who was too close for the owl to see normally

You were lucky to be able to get so close to such a magical owl. I would be smiling for a week if I had that encounter, mind you there are no gray owls in the UK. I have been lucky enough to see all of our resident owls though. I would have left the stump there myself as it was very comfortable resting there to cool off and if in your yard it would be safe there and then would roost in the nearby trees. You may never get that close again and during the breeding season, you would be wise not to. It's really nice footage and the owls eyes when blinking are amazing. ◕‿◕

The great grey owl or great gray owl (Strix nebulosa) is a very large owl, documented as the world's largest species of owl by length. It is distributed across the Northern Hemisphere, and it is the only species in the genus Strix found in both Eastern and Western Hemispheres. In some areas it is also called Phantom of the North, cinereous owl, spectral owl, Lapland owl, spruce owl, bearded owl, and sooty owl.
