Stunning takeoff at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport with a great sound of those JT8D Engines on the MD-88. A special note about the aircraft (N927DA) was involved in a catastrophic engine failure on July 6th, 1996 at Pensacola Regional Airport that killed 2 and injured 2 when parts of the engine exploded into the cabin. The aircraft was repaired and put back into service and I got the chance to fly on it. Please comment rate and subscribe!

Amazing video with some amazing sound! Super cool how you guys immediately started your takeoff roll when the previous MD-88 was still just climbing off the runway, must be because ATL is the busiest airport on the planet.

Awesome. I flew on N927DA from Memphis to Boston in 2010 back when MEM had mainline service to BOS. I didn't realize until I looked the registration up it was the plane involved in the Pensacola incident.

I hear two people died on this one in 1996! Rest in peace Delta Air Lines Flight 1288 was a regularly scheduled flight from Pensacola, Florida to Atlanta, Georgia. On July 6, 1996, the aircraft serving the flight, registered as N927DA, a McDonnell Douglas MD-88 equipped with Pratt & Whitney JT8D-219 turbofan engines, was on takeoff roll from Runway 17 at Pensacola when it experienced an uncontained, catastrophic turbine engine failure that caused debris from the front compressor hub of the number one left engine to penetrate the left aft fuselage. The impact left two passengers dead and two severely injured; the two dead were a mother and son. The pilot aborted takeoff and the airplane stopped on the runway. Three other passengers sustained minor injuries during the emergency evacuation. Most of the passengers were traveling on vacation.

I just flew in to Hartsfield on an MD-90 and out on an MD-88. I'll say that the climb in the 90 was steeper out of West Palm but both climb like mad. MD88 pilots only ran 1 engine up, I forgot those JT8's are thirsty.. I didn't know about the engine failure in this plane, that is terrible. Delta is sure getting a lot of use out of all those MD-88's and 90s. The ones we flew last week were all updated with new leather seats that were very comfortable. Hell of a lot nicer than those awful flat seats in the A320 from Jet Blue.

No specific noise abatement procedure off RNY 26L, or any other runway for that matter. Looks like the standard RNAV departure and a very light load of pax and gas. Gonna miss the -80s when they go...they r some damn sexy lookin' birds! The folks over at Airbus should take some notes on how to design a "good looking" plane, ya know?!
