What is the best film to use? Fuji Provia 100F is a beautiful color reversal film. Shooting with the Leica M4, is this the greatest combination ever?
Film: Fuji Provia 100F
Camera: Leica M4
Film Scans: Nikon Coolscan V ED
Film Developed by: Dodge Chrome
Video shot with the Canon C100, Canon EOS R and Canon 6D mk II. For Lighting, we used the Aperture Amaran 100D and Aperture Amaran 60D.

Nice shots. I love slide film! I always went for it when I wanted to shoot color. I went through hundreds of rolls in the ‘00s, mostly Kodachrome but also lots of Ektachrome, Provia, Astia etc. Mount the slides and get a projector!

Thank you so much! Slide film is my definite go to, and Provia is my favorite of all the slide films I’ve used. I have all the stuff to mount the slides… I could get a projector. I might mess with that in a future video.

@@michaelmarshallphotography5515Project images have to be seen to believe. You need a screen also for the full effect. I have used screens from 80 inches or less to ones that are 10s of feet.

Great video Michael. Keep up the good work! I've just picked up a roll of Provia 100F myself a couple of weeks ago. Hope to use it for some landscape photos early next year for when I go up in the Flinders Ranges. :)

i like provia a lot and just recently got a leica m3. now i cant wait to use this combo. i know positive film allows for fewer tolerance for exposure so it's probably harder to capture a fleeting moment when using leica m3 (or m4), especially with a positive film. really like this video - just subscribed !!

Thanks! I especially liked the fire hydrant almost absorbed by the surroundings. Yes, Provia and Velvia are/were great films. I found despite the low latitude, a pol filter in the mountains could work wonders. Much less blown out areas, also in sunlit rock. Sadly, Fuji film is no longer available in Switzerland. Fuji Swiss no longer develops reversal film. Don't forget that film is only a tiny part of the Fuji giant, so profit optimization goes first.

I stopped shooting slides 23 years ago... a price unacceptable! Pentax Optio was 1st digital and felt like I had keys to Kodak warehouse!

I do wish it was a bit more cost effective. Definitely one of the more expensive film stocks to buy, shoot and develop.

Love my M4. Love Provia as well but at $40 bucks equivalent a roll in Japan where I live that's a no go now unfortunately.

I completely get that and agree. I'm lucky enough to still have 10 rolls of 35mm Provia in my fridge. Once I'm through that, I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Thank you once again! I am using a Sekonic L-758DR meter. I like that it can do spot readings and incident readings. The versatility is nice.

Great video! How do you find using the 40mm on the M4? Do you estimate the frameline?

Thank you for watching! And that's basically what I do. I usually check the framing at 50mm and then 35mm, line it up somewhere in the middle and hope. It's not perfect, but I do like the focal length. My biggest complaint is the lens I have is the Voigtlander Nokton Classic SC 40mm f/1.4, and it definitely has heavy distortion on the edges. But I'm making do until I can buy a new lens.

Leica camera and Voigtländer lenses. Really? How should Leica survive, when most people purchase cheap Voigtländer lenses? Leica M4 or M6 with a Voigtländer lens is a joke. Better save money a little bit longer and earn a Leica glass, than that kind of culture shock.

The Voigtlander does a pretty good job. But yeah, I wish I had the funds to purchase some Leica glass. I’m accepting donations if you want to send a lens. Lol.

what a snobbery comment, you have no clue, there are some Voigtländer lenses which are in no way worse than any Leica glass, look for example at the Voigtländer 35mm F1.7 Ultron; absolutely spectacular optical performance for a fraction of the price of Leica Glass..

I do really like the Voigtlander glass, though I do wish the 40mm f1.4 was more rectilinear. There is definite bowing and fall off on the edges. I would love to have some Leica glass, but I’m very happy with my Voigtlanders. So I need to try the 35mm f1.7 ultron? I’ll definitely look into it!
