THE HINDERER KABAR IN 3V IS A TANK OF A BLADE.. BASED ON THE OLD MARK II FIGHTING KNIFE. 3V BLADE STOCK AND MICARTA HANDLE SCALES.. THIS THING HANDLED EVERYTHING I THREW AT IT

The KABAR is and will always be a classic design. I love to see all the different versions that companies come out with. This one is definitely a quality version, to be sure.

Brother I'd love to know how many different kinds there are. I think my favorite would be dbads war machine... But I love the Spartan version too

I took a Buck General to war with me in 1968. It snapped off at the double guard in the Iron Triangle's triple canopy jungle. I'm not a fan of Buck knives. They lost my business 56 years ago. ... Now that 3V Kabar is a blade worth taking to battle. ... Thanks again Scab,. MM

That's a really cool knife story. You should email that to buck knives

Well, what steel was it back then, that Buck 120. I've seen the Joe X video on the Buck 120, and it proved to be quite tough actually. It is 420HC steel. Not talking about the S35VN , which he has also a video on. The Gerber Strongarm is also 420HC. Tough knife also.
@user-cb3id6ef4zАй бұрын
@@Ve-suvius There was no way of knowing what steel was used in that knife in 1968. All I knew was that it was stainless. ... At that time, Buck advertisements showed one of their blades being pounded with a hammer on the spine, through a bolt held in a bench vise. ... I mistakenly assumed it was indestructable much to my chagrin.
@Ve-suviusАй бұрын
@@user-cb3id6ef4z I understand your reaction to it. I read that they also used 440C at one time. And what not more..🤷♂. In the end, most knives have their limits. The Glock knife is supposed to be very tough. I have had many . The tip is too bendable, soft steel. I had some that were nearly impossible to get sharp.. Every knife has its good and bad quality's. Commando daggers are good for going through thick tough cloths(I really like the CRKT Hissatsu), but not good for tip tests. BK9 is praised by many(not good for tip tests either). But regarding penetration layers of tougher cloths I found it lacking. It is a Combat Bowie. But I think a Bowie with a more slender, more narrow tip would go in more effectively. Tip tests should not be taken to the extreme I think. Many knives will have the tip break or at least bend like an iron wire. It's very hard on a knife.

@@Ve-suvius Fast forward to several years ago. DLT had an exclusive - Buck 110 folders with S-30V, drop point, no nail nick, cherry red pakkawood inserts between nickel silver bolsters. I relented and bought two. One was for a very close friend who loves Buck 110s. He was an artillery Gun Section Chief on a 105 mm Howitzer in the Americal Div, I Corp RVN, 1968. At the same time that I was fighting in III Corps in the 16th Infantry Rangers. We were both Staff Sergeants . ... I had DLT engrave both of the blades. ... When they arrived, both were so full of grinding grit that they wouldn't open fully. Both had a huge burr on one side of the blade from a fairly aggressive belt. Neither would open an envelope without tearing it. My buddy's blade had been ground off about ¼" shorter than mine. ... Had they not been engraved, I'd have returned them to DLT. ... I thought much more of my friend than to give him that piece of crap Buck knife. ... Thrice bitten - thrice shy.

I can say that Hinder has always been a make-it-your-own company and he doesn't load down his screws with Loctite so you can take everything apart and changes scales and anything else on his knives he leaves it up to you if you want to Loctite them down and happy with what you got the scales and but cap won't come loose anymore. I was impressed with everything you did overall but the chopping stood out. I haven't heard anything about these being discontinued I bought this one in February this year from Rick Hinderer's website and just a couple weeks ago there was a drop of these at DLT Trading. Anyway, I keep all my Kbars on a magnetic wall hang and the Hinderer does have a little more swept-up blade than the Spartan Kabar or the Kabar. Great review and I'm happy with the Knife. I will Loctite everything down when I get it back because I'm not changing a thing.
@choirboyzcutleryoutdoorsАй бұрын

@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors Brother it's not your fault it's my fault I have 20 of his knives and I know he doesn't use Loctite so you can remove the screws easily I should have done it before I sent it.

DLT still has some in stock if anyone wants one. Mine came scary sharp. I put my finger in the choil, and I barely touched the blade and it cut me lol. Hinderer has some of the best looking sheaths. I have this and the Emmet, and both sheaths are gorgeous!

They need to bring this back. There would be a massive market for this knife now that 3V is going mainstream with production knife companies. I’d love to own a full tang Kabar in 3V or whatever other steel they might do. Heck, I’d love this knife in their 1095 CroVan because its a full tang! (The reason I haven’t yet bought one! Get it together Kabar)
