General "Stormin" Norman Schwarzkopf was an exceptionally clever man, and some say he was the greatest military leader of modern times.
He had an IQ of 168, was a member of Mensa and was commissioned in the United States Army in 1956.
During Vietnam, Norman Schwarzkopf won three silver stars for bravery, the first he braved heavy North Vietnamese fire power to recover and treat soldiers. Another for leading an assault, in which he was wounded four times, and refused medical evacuation until the objective had been complete.
Norman Schwarzkopf rose through the ranks doing various roles, before becoming a Lieutenant General in 1986.
Norman Schwarzkopf rose to fame in 1990 when he became Commander of Operation Desert Storm, and was in overall command of 750 thousand coalition troops.
Under his command, the mission of getting rid of Iraqi troops and reinstalling Kuwait as an independent country was a success.
Upon his return to the US in 1991, Norman Schwarzkopf led a homecoming parade in Washington, DC. He sadly died at the age of 78 in 2012

I was a soldier in the 1st Brigade, 9th Infantry Division, when he was the colonel in command of the brigade. He was promoted to Brigadier General during that time, and I was a part of the brigade formation when he announced the promotion. He was well-liked by the soldiers in the brigade, but I also remember that some of his subordinate officers were a bit afraid of him! During a brigade command post exercise I was at our battalion command post while my old company commander was visiting. Upon hearing that the Bear (his favorite nickname) was about to arrive, this company commander stood up suddenly and left immediately! It was fun to watch.

It is said that during Desert Storm, General Schwarzkopf was told (by a reporter) that a soldier said he was ready to die for his country. General Schwarzkopf demanded the soldiers name and was caught on film admonishing the soldier that his job was to live for his country not to die for it. Sadly the reporter claims the film was somehow destroyed, that is the measure of how great General Schwarzkopf was. ☦️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

“Stormin’ Norman” was caught up in a friendly fire incident during his 2nd tour during the Vietnam Conflict. During Schwarzkopf’s second Vietnam tour, he commanded an infantry battalion in which a young GI was killed by a U.S. artillery shell that went astray. The incident was the basis for a book and a movie called ″Friendly Fire″. They relate how an Iowa farm couple, outraged by the death of their son, Sgt. Michael Mullen, become fervent opponents of the war and blame Schwarzkopf for covering up alleged irregularities in the young man’s death. Author C.D.B. Bryan, who did extensive interviews with Schwarzkopf, vindicated him of wrongdoing and described him as a man deeply disturbed by the tragedies of war.
