Hello, sorry for the translation, I had communicated with you by email for an IDENTICAL project and you could not help me because of the distance. When I saw this video it upset me. But I forgave you. I just wanted to update and tell you that I solved my problem. Because of the trees, I initially opted for a 2.4Ghz PTMP system, but there was too much interference, the performance was poor. I redid everything in 5Ghz. But since I didn't have line of sight with each station, I wired isolated stations with the nearest station. It works fine now and I even added 4 camera protect. The signal is constant and no more cuts. The boat season is coming to an end but I will probably have other areas to cover next year. Thank you and continue your videos, I do not miss one.

Love the video Chris. Here are a few thing that have been a major consideration for me when I watch videos like this because I live outside the USA. Shipping, it blows my mind that there can be free shipping anywhere in the continental USA but to ship it to a border town outside the states costs an arm and a leg, before duty. And you cant forget duty, which is a pain because how much is it, I have never been able to figure out the categories and how much different things cost. Then there is the issue of the cost. If I buy something outside the stated to avoid that headache it cost substantially more, not exchange rate more, just more. I am just thankful Ubiquity now has an online store for other countries, other than it seems to have limited stock, but Netgate does not. I think I paid somewhere around $300 for my netgate SG-1100 from netgate because I am outside the US. You break down and decide it has been long enough and you want it, then you look at the exchange, then you see shipping, then you get a phone call from UPS telling you how much duty is. Anyways sorry about the rant, I realize the majority of your viewers are in the states. I only bring this up because the location is outside the US, and I will go back to living in my grumpy shipping and duty cost bubble and not bug people again. Rant over

Awesome video as always!. Could the boats connect to the Rocket 5AC Prism Gen2 directly by using BulletAC-IP67? Instead of having to have the extra bases and AP's. We have a similar setup we are thinking about doing.

Why not use the NS-5AC vs the NBE-5AC? You can then just use one POE injector, enable PoE passthrough on the NS and plug right into the AP?

The yachties themselves will most likely have their own antennae's and systems as well. I used to bring my own when I worked on commercial ships.

Dear Chris, ThX for that very informative video. One gets a much better understanding of the capabilities of the devices when you see real examples. There is one point that came to my mind but I have not checked that in advance myself This is Europe and there are pretty big differences in legal channel use from country to country (outdoor and indoor differs e.g. in Germany) and legal output power. Your example uses 28dBm while there is a limitation (again in Germany) of 20dBm. (don't know in Greece) Since there a some geo coordinates the software you use might consider this Furthermore - this is "harbor". so the use of radar is pretty common and might cause interference. But that's more a 5GHz issue So very likely the setting switches to "Greek" according to the setting in the cloudKey, but that might effect the calcs Anyway - thanks a lot and waiting for the next design!

Hey there, Just a thought id provision for a few of the Nano Beam AC Gen 2's for vessels in the port mainly the larger ones. I work as a ETO on these vessels and is a normal setup quite often to put one on the mast for the time in the port. mainly for that large part of the Dock with no location for a WAP's as the larger vessels will most likely be in that area.

There's no need to use 2 power supplies and injectors at each site. With passive 24v which is a very crude system, you can easily modify a stock injector or wire your own single adaptor that feeds out passive PoE from both sockets.

Hey Chris, I'm looking at doing a wireless bridge from building to building using ubiquity. (300ft) any recommendations on what ubiquity equipment to use? I have already got the main building ran with ubiquity ap's and switches running cloudkey. We need something with good throughput. I have been volunteering to help my church out with the network. They only had internet in 1 building and it was set up like a home network with 1 wireless router that only covered 1/4 of the church. I got that part worked out, now I'm tasked to get the youth building internet.... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Beautiful design. I would try and throw UniFi BasestationXG with 802.3bt injector in to the mix to give 5Ghz coverage to that far side of the port. I'ts go 15dbi 50° antenna, so, I'd say it's worth a shot. Also, would you consider deploying ER-X if the office building (presumably theirs) were only a branch? That Netgate cost's about 8 to 10 times what ER-X cost's here in Czechia and I'm not convinced, that it is so much better, unless you really need advanced features.

Whenever I've done airmax deployments over water I've experienced better connectivity, etc when the axis are flipped (vertical to horizontal, horizontal to vertical), the only issue doing so is that the equipment ports, etc, will be compromised due to water or any other environment situation.

A solid and good design Chris. If there is no way to get power from those light posts (I Assume that we would have the power from them), then maybe we need to use a solar panel on top and use a SunMax Solarswicth (since you are using the Nema box) and a Solar battery. Of course this will increase the price of the setup but as I mentioned if there is not a power source n those posts then this alternate power will do good. Also another question that I have is since you are using a cloud key why didn’t you use a UniFi security gateway or a gateway pro for your firewall? 🍻 Cheers and hopefully they hire you and go to Greece 🇬🇷

Why would you not use a single pole style MTP antenna and only need one rocket? I did a setup similar to that, and it works just fine with Nanostations.

If a ship with enough height comes in, those directional beams down won't be supplying those receivers blocked with a network connection. The receivers must be a couple meters higher than the maximum allowed ship height size to come into port. I don't think the specified height mentioned for the receivers is going to be enough to minimize interruptions. On a busy day, this could result in a lot of dropped connections per day.

Very cool but I feel as if it is overkill for his needs. I'm not sure if that's fresh or salt water so that's something to keep in mind. At the building he could use 2x LAP-GPS (sync'd 10ms) as the APs and an Edgerouter X SFP as the router/switch/poe as it has POE ethernet. Then for the "STA"'s (on the light poles) he could toss a nanostation AC (full size, with POE passthrough enabled) and then a UAP-AC-M (the Mesh AP one) wired into the NSAC. This would cost much less, but really depends as to what he wants to do, he didn't mention having anything because if he did he could even use M2 devices as the APs.

For an easy estimate from feet to meters: divide feet by 3. 18 feet is about 6 meter.

You can passthru PoE with this combo and only use one PoE injector

you forgot the PoE injectors ;-) and since the 5 packs dont come with injectors (the singles ones do) I would go and buy 10 single ones (or not if you can get the injectors in 5 packs for a similar price)

The standard voltage in Greece is 230 V with a frequency of 50 Hz. Most visitors will then require a voltage converter, especially for Americans used to a 120 V standard. Just wanted you to inform you on power there. Kurt

This is weird. I wonder if it's someone who work at the local municipality and/or port. I doubt he can put access points on lamp poles like that. I'm sure the municipality would have to approve AP's being mounted on those poles. But awesome and interesting video!

It's a great concept, but if its intended to provide reliable Wi-Fi to customers inside the boats which breaks LOS, you're going to have major issues. That is at least my experience.

These solutions are great in theory but fail in practice. No thought of studying current RF environment at all. I've done simple PtMP and PtP with Ubiquiti 5 GHz and failed at getting a reliable link even over 10 metres in congested RF environment. Note: 60 GHz is good solution for point to point.

You obviously know nothing about RF if you are saying shooting over water is good. RF Reflections are not good especially in areas that are tidal as the reflection points change constantly.

1st thing you are in US so you love feets..but meter is common measurement of length outside US.. 2nd thing listen people..this guy though he claims to be wireless internet expert doesnot know beaming over water is not that great... there will be signals losses if you are beam over water for long distances...moon rotation will cripple your internet....This guy is not that expert as i used to believe him..His solutions are way expensive...see i am from Nepal..and i have install my wireless internet myself at just $30...2nd hand equipments also works well...so solely donot believe whatever this guy says....he always want people to be A great to have internet connection..He shows equipment which are way expensive for a normal person to buy..but believe me...it is not so expensive...i donot know whether this guy is a sell agent of ubiquiti or what...
