I used to work with an old time farmer. He told me when he and his dad needed to clear boulders from the field his father would go to the hardware store and by dynamite, yes at the hardware store. He would dig underneath it and place a charge under and flip it out of the hole. Then place a charge on top of it and pack it with mud and shatter the boulder. Not an expert myself but I guess it is possible.

There's no laws regarding carrying a firearm into a bank either open carried or concealed at the federal level. As for state level laws, there's a few states that restrict your right to carry. Ultimately, it's up to the bank/branch as they're private property whether or not they recognize your right to bear arms.

If the airport is large enough the helicopter would absolutely have to gain clearance to enter the airspace... and although highly unlikely if another aircraft couldn't reroute and had to declare an emergency they would be restricted to a certain zone of operation and altitude... A shootout is different, but there are multiple high speed vehicle chase videos on the ol KZfaqs where LEO helicopters had to "fly around the box" while keeping within altitude limits of that airspace (depending on the airport they are already the only ones even allowed to do that much without previous notice unless the radio traffic was edited out) In one video the pilot didn't even attempt to gain clearance to continue the stupid motorcycle chase as it would've wrecked the nice orchestrated stack of air traffic circling above that airport... Although a North Hollywood Shootout type event might cause your commercial flight to be diverted 😉

There's a section of Hwy 70 in St Louis near the City/County border that was a haven for street racing when I lived near there. That segment is under the approach for the local airport so no routine aerial traffic enforcement like they do other high-offending areas. When Ferguson popped off with their riots, the FAA raised the approach altitude several hundred feet as the approach was over the riots, they feared random small arms fire and tear gas exposure, and they restricted the airspace to ONLY law enforcement below a certain altitude... here's a thing you may not have considered, restrictions like that also result in civilian drone flight also being banned, so no media and no potential overwatch without legal hassle.

It works kind of similar to a shaped charge, which usually uses copper to cut or penetrate a specific point or line. It's not the exact the same principle, but close. Basically you accelerate the water close to the rate of detonation of the used explosive, which directionally forces it through a given structure or materiel.
@lincolnpascual

Well, when you get right down to the building blocks of everything, all matter is simply energy. And energy can neither be created nor destroyed, merely transferred from one vessel to another. Everything experiences phase changes. It's not just water. Literally everything does it, including us. The further you go down this rabbit hole of thought, you start getting into existential questions. Like for instance, the cells in your body are constantly dying off and new ones being created. In the span of 7 years, there will not be a single cell than was there 7 years prior. In effect, you are a completely different person. Or are you?

These are pretty much my favorite videos on KZfaq! You guys do such an amazing job! That said though I would like to correct something that was said by Mr. Buck where he was saying that during a gunfight, the Ghetto Bird pilot would disregard and bust restricted airspace. As a current pilot that has flown many times as Pilot In Command (PIC) in the exact and surrounding area where this movie is taking place, former JTAC in Air Force, family with many LEO's in Southern California and has flown with Fontana PD's Ghetto Bird once as well (which was in Southern California as well) hopefully people will take my word that I know what I'm talking about and that I'm not trying to talk shit about you guys! Here it goes: So at 1:25 in this video you can see a map where the main guys are, it is pretty much 1950 W Redondo Beach Blvd, Gardena, CA 90247. That address and possibly the following pursuit by the ghetto bird is around quite a few airports, the closest with controlled airspace being Hawthorne Municipal (KHHR). Where the movie and Buck get this wrong is no actual "Restricted" airspace anywhere near there. Public airports have "Controlled Airspace" surround the airports themselves and both the arriving and departing areas for each of the airports' runways. Depending on the type and time of the airport, there are different types of airspace used by the FAA each that have different levels of requirements before any aircraft may enter that airspace. An example of this is LAX, which is close to Hawthorne, has what's called "Bravo" airspace surrounding it in which, with permission, has aircraft flying in it all the time. "Restricted" airspace on the other hand is completely different in that pretty much you are pretty much never allowed to fly into it. This is what surrounds Area 51 for example. Now there are exceptions to the rule but let's say that a police shootout is happening just off the highway in Nevada where Area 51 is near and also its restricted airspace. If the bad guys happen to cross the line where the Restricted Airspace starts, if the ghetto bird pilot cannot get ahold of someone controlling that airspace, that pilot will absolutely in no circumstances cross into that restricted airspace! If he did, best case, his license would be suspended and hopefully not forever. Worst case it's area 51 in which the military is authorized to use deadly force on ANYONE that crosses that threshold! Now in the case of this movie, the address this happens at is in "Delta" controlled airspace from the nearby Hawthorne Airport but all the pilot has to do is have a radio communication with the Hawthorne Tower Controller in which the controller responds by acknowledging the pilot by repeating the pilot's or aircrafts callsign then he is cleared to fly in that area in "Delta" airspace without being given any actual "permission" to be cleared into it. Some airports that close at night don't even have 24/7 air traffic controllers so in that case that airport it's class "Delta" area turns into Pilot Controlled in which case the ghetto bird pilot wouldn't legally have to talk to anyone. However, if if the shooting turns into a police chase that takes them towards LAX, which is a "Bravo" airport with "Bravo" airspace, the Pilot HAS to be told exactly their callsign and then "cleared to enter the Bravo airspace," That pilot WILL NOT continue to follow even if they are shooting out the windows at police or citizens. If he does he WILL get into trouble from the FAA, especially if he was told specifically to stay out of the "bravo" airspace by air traffic controllers no matter the reason! No pilot would realistically do this though because despite helping save the lives of those on the ground, if they busted into Bravo airspace without permission or worse were told to not enter it, they are putting potentially hundreds, if not thousands of citizens in lethal danger that are flying in the air in commercial airlines! All things considered though, if it is possible to do so safely, Air Traffic Control will do the absolute best to always clear police helicopters into Bravo airspace ESPECIALLY when there are lives at risk but again only if it is safe and big huge airliners with hundreds of people on them will always take priority when it comes to safety! Other than that this was again such an amazing video keep it guys! Edit: I forgot about The President of the U.S. comment! Yeah so when The President is in town or whatever they put what's called a Temporary Flight Restriction or TFR from the ground all the way up as high as they want. It's similar to "Restricted" airspace and can be modified to be closer to how "Bravo" airspace works. In this case though if you don't already have prior authorization to be flying through the TFR and you do not get permission to enter the TFR go ahead and expect to have ARMED Fighter escorts VERY soon lol! Which by the way, they have authorization to use lethal force and shoot you down as well!

Love these beers and breakdowns. We tried IV bags too with varying success. Not sure where the idea came from either. Maybe someone watched a movie or had an idea. Problem we had was the medic, not a patrol medic, but true blue medic protected under Geneva Conv, carried the IV bags. That created a dilemma. In my experience down range it wasn’t used, be it lack of other guys carrying IV bags and only the medic, or that it was deemed effective. This was pre ‘11

I was a Combat Engineer and the water impulse charge is a real breaching charge taught. It is very effective when constructed correctly. Most constructed breaching charges are prepped before a patrol ever moves outside the wire. In the case of using the IV bags, it is a non-issue as those carried on patrol by the medic are not going to be used. IV bags used are procured before the patrol and are often expired or excess inventory easily obtained. As far as how often it was used down range was determined by the barriers components that required breaching. Most breaches could be completed with just det cord or a block of c-4 formed into a shaped charge so there wasn't a need. We could also use strips of rubber from busted tires as a mechanical pushing force taped to knots of det cord as well since there was always worn out and busted tires around.

@@hexsystem7891 CE would have been fun. Have a mate who was EDD Handler, that would have been the job I wanted. I was a working dog handler but not to the level they became trained in, we barely imprinted on odours and used old doctrine of scent pools, worked well in the bush environments for typical traps, Vietnam ERA and for apprehension not for IED’s. He misses that dog of his so much. Taught each other a few things over the years especially as his time was after me and they ran all sorts of breeds from rescues and very heavy in imprinting. We now have our own pet dogs we do detection and tracking, I do SAR work. It keeps us busy. We dabble in the k9 sports side but feel we have an unfair advantage due to having experienced it as a career. It theory it all sounds great I know that I know crap all about explosives other than that some of the ‘hey watch this’ moments made me chuckle on fun days and in practice somedays it worked really well with IV bags. Other days was very random. Weren’t sure if it was the size and or shape of the bag. Not taping the bag down properly. It was a lot of trial and a lot of error. In the end I know in training we gave up at least for the rest of my career. It’s good to see the science behind it. I’d suspect that it would have been continued and over time refined. Once ideas like that start and get around the right people and word spreads lots want to try.

The sciencemadness forum has a huge amount of information on that kind of thing and really any other scientific subject.

Charlie, did you ever experiment with combining shape charges and water? Before they were banned from doing it, South Sweden SWAT was down to using only 25 g of explosives to get through regular security doors. If there's interest I can try and find the article again.

Water bag charge is great for wall ports. Water grabs the debris and insulation in the air fast. Provides a nice clear, clearer gun port into a structure

We did that using those rounded half egg-shaped tupperware containers. Fill them with water, close the lid, stick PETN all around the back and a blasting cap and fuze. Bam. You got a perfect hole.

I've found that if you can't watch a movie without removing your military experience from it, you'll never be able to fully enjoy it. Because I loved "Den Of Thieves." But I wondered why they didn't run away too. 🤣 Because even though you find out at the end of the movie that they didn't have the money, I thought when the dismounted from the vehicle they were defending it. But they got out of the vehicle with the intent of leaving it to escape. Not like in the movie "Heat" where they're running from the police with huge bags of money runnin' and gunnin' because they were keeping the money or gettin' smoked trying.

Probably because they know they can get another job going and hit another place I guess. But Heat is legendary. They borrowed a whole lot in this movie as a nod to Heat. Love it.

RE Factor is Relative Effectiveness not Relative Explosive and the correct water impulse charge should have the det cord sandwiched in between 2 water bags or IV bags. Expired IV bags is what we used. Very effective on all door construct in our experience. C charges on the door knob worked well when no bags were available too.

30:20 you have to watch the full movie to realize that big nick and his crew were not orthodox sheriffs department he states in the movie when interrogating Donnie “do we look like the type of cops who arrest you? No we shoot you it’s less paperwork” they were waiting for them to leave the bank so they could just kill them. When nicks on the phone with merriman he literally tells him “ I didn’t bring my cuffs”

Tamping charge used the waters ability not to compress to “push” throughout the door. We use it alot on metal doors to defeat the locking mechanism. Plus the water dampens the thermal effect.

I love the in depth details but I'd love some more info as to do with restricted air space. I have personally seen a helo chasing a suspect and he had to divert due to the international Airport the driver went by, it was right next to run way there fore planes are extremely low on final. Would this too go out the window in the event of this situation, If so would they have to contact the atc to stop traffic for safty of airline and helo? If so that just seems like it would take too much time to do so, especially large international airports.

Whether you can carry into a bank is dependent on individual state’s laws. It’s actually legal in most states to carry a firearm into a bank. Montana is the only state that restricts concealed carry in a bank funny enough.
